Badass!

B-17s are a lot smaller in-person than you'd think, I've got to say.

Totally, especially compared to todays stuff. I always thought the B-29 was huge. basically looks like a lengthened B-17 except for the absense of a windshield.

BUT then the post war B-36 makes both look like ultralights!
>>
>>33777623
Wow and I bet a C5 Galaxy or an An-225 would make a B36 look tiny
>>
>>33776073
when will the old racist fuckhead croak?

Neat. Cool video.

>>33776977
The thing that surprised me the most when I saw one years ago was how thin they were.
You hear the name "Flying Fortress" and you think of something strong and solid. In reality it's all thin metal that moves in when you push it with your finger. That's not gonna stop any kind of bullet or shrapnel.

Was he in the 8th? Bunch of those guys got interviewed for the upcoming HBO series not too long ago.
>>
>>33778002
what series?
>>
>>33778004
Masters of the air?

based of the book by Miller
>>
>>33778004
Hanks/Spielberg are making a third WW2 miniseries for HBO based on Masters of the Air. They did vet interviews in Georgia a while back, finished the screenplay and scouted locations last year. Producers were at the 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum last month.
>>
>>33778002
HBO series about World War II? Will I finally watch some real life television again?
>>
>>33778032
>>33778036
That's still happening? I swear production has been dropped/resumed every year for like five years.
>>
>>33776073
Should have done a citizen's arrest on him for charges of war crimes.
If former SS members can face trial and be convicted then so can he.

Same guys who did Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

>>33778058
Don't think it was ever called off, there was just a different bomber movie pitch trailer that got circulated but was never actually this project. BoB took 5 years and this one is still in relatively early stages.

Orloff also tweets about it from time to time. In the replies to his pinned tweet he mentions the scale being much bigger than BoB, which took 5 years.

I fucking hope so. I've read it four times now in anticipation. It will be fucking awesome seeing it in a mini series like the last two.

Flight crews had it rough in the 8th. They lost more men than the Marines during the war, and the battle over Europe was one that was fought for longer than any other.

It's a story that needs to be told, and I can't wait.

Awesome. There was that one movie trailer which looked really cheesy and over-the-top, for a movie which never came out. I must have gotten this project confused for that.
I hope the weight it worth it, I still need to watch The Pacific but I love BoB.
>>
>>33778102
>The weight
Shit. The wait.
>>
>>33778102
Lot of people didn't like the Pacific because it was sourced from several books, meaning it jumped around a lot while BoB just followed one unit, still worth a watch though.
>>
>>33778102

If you loved Band of Brothers, you might want to stay away from The Pacific. IMO, they did a pretty lackluster job on The Pacific and didn't emphasize the intensity of the fighting enough. plus they waste a lot of time on romance, and the characters just arent as good.

If BoB was an 8.5/10, The Pacific was 5/10
>>
>>33778116
>>33778130
Those are the most common complaints I've heard about it. That the characters don't get developed as much and it jumps around. Romance plots for stuff like that don't really interest me.
At worst if I don't like the first episode or two when watching I could just stop. Whenever I get around to it.

don't want to detract and push the thread into discussing the show when OP wanted to talk about USAAF bombers and the 8th AF

Well they coulda built it out of armor plated steel. But then it wouldn't be able to carry bombs anymore...

Not being a dick just saying everything's a compromise. It deff had alot of firepower and gunners tho.
>>
>>33777899
STFU that man is part of the greatest generation of humans that ever lived!
>>
>>33778190
I full understand it now why they had to do that to maximize bombload and also ensure proper expansion at altitude.
It was just when I first saw one when I was younger, I expected something that seemed a lot more durable.
I certainly wouldn't want to be a 109 or 190 pilot having to dive into a formation of them where they all have numerous .50 cals.
>>
>>33778175
Hop on your horse and get the fuck outta here, Hans. Before a P-47 strafes it.
>>
>>33778213
Yea especially once they started getting P-51 escorts that could tag along all the way to germany

Worse yet imagine being one of the German pilots that flew the Me 163 rocket powered interceptor. I'd be scared that thing would explode like dynamite if hit.

your so stupid

Not positive, at the end of the vid you can see his signature and unit.

I have his records somewhere and I'll post them tomorrow if I can find them and this thread is still active.

I'd be scared of it blowing up on the runway when you first lit it off

I too met that guy at a B-17 exhibition. Cool dude.
