This. Consider that the 75 round AK drums weigh about 5 lbs when loaded. In the event that those helical magazines hold less, then NK would be using new designed magazines that are more prone to failure than existing battle tested drum magazines for no additional capacity. In the event that those helical magazines hold 75 rounds or more however, then their AKs would be unwieldy as all fuck when loaded and would end up putting the center of gravity for that extra 5+ lbs toward the middle of the handguard instead of below the magazine well between the soldier's hands which would make them get tired faster when keeping the gun shouldered and ready to fire. These supposed helical magazines are more than likely fake, and in the event that they are real they are rule of cool bullshit that will make soldiers less effective. Might as well give soldiers pic related.

There's a big difference between using helical magazines with pistol ammunition and with rifle ammunition. They make sense with pistol ammunition due to how short pistol ammunition tends to be, but quickly lose their advantage when being used to hold significantly longer cartridges (7.62x39mm is about 2.25x as long as 9x18mm). Taking Bizon magazines and just making them wider so they'll hold 7.62x39mm while keeping the same length would give you an over complicated ~28 round magazine.

Honest opinion is that NK individual gear as presented in these promotional pictures looks fine. Not state of the art and a little puffed up, but then again gear in any parade is going to be that way. The nitpicking on it is somewhat absurd in that regard.

HOWEVER, personal individual equipment is the easiest and cheapest gear for a military to make look good in promotional pictures. The expensive shit like communications, surveillance tech, and information integration gear is a lot harder to show off and a lot less sexy, but it makes a much larger impact on how well a military works than nitpicking over the layout of some soldiers' loadbearing gear.

Training to be truly effective, which also involves a lot of mundane but important basics is hard to show off in a parade. Stuff like being able to do an inventory or keep a maintenance schedule is less impressive than a party trick like a back flipping tomahawk toss.

I think all evidence is that NK's military lacks modern, effective training and modern strategic level equipment, but since it's harder to gauge for clickbait you've got news sites covering nonsense and going to some idiot ex-mil who is making shit up.
