Nice Ruger.

There are definitely plenty of nice pistols in the 600-800 range, you can get something a little more gucci than a glock and still save at least half. I'm no expert but HK and FN both come to mind. I really like CZ myself, I have an 85 and love it.

Yeah i've handled a few glocks and M&Ps. So far the thing I liked most was an old SW 5906. Mainly because the metal feel. I have no issue against a polymer handgun if I find one I like the feel of, but at 600-1000 I really have no idea what to look for in handguns.

Ive heard both good and bad things about CZ, how is yours?

Love mine. Super accurate, and with an upgraded hammer and sear the trigger breaks almost like a 1911. The only time it's jammed in the 1500 rounds or so I've shot was when I was trying a different grip and accidentally engaged the slide release. People complain about the internal machining marks but mine looks clean.

Save it. If there's not a gun you currently want, don't ask what you should spend the money on.

OP, you already know what you want. a handgun. you're turning 21. that means conceal carry. what's your height/weight/body type?

with $2000 you could buy a few handguns, but if you're a big enough guy you could just get a compact (glock 19, p2000, usp-c, fns-c, m&p-c, lh9, etc) and save some money

5' 6" certified tubby manlet. I will be getting a permit, but i only rarely am in a sketchy area so I wont carry daily. But would like the option for those tines.

This summer I am living in a state where I cant legally bring my AR, so the handgun will act as HD. Once I am back in my free state home, The AR will be back on HD duty and the handgun will live in my glovebox.

The shield is the subcompact 9 right? Is that really ideal considering I dont plan on carrying often? It seems like a tradeoff on capacity and ergonomics.

Get a nice full size pistol that you like the look/design of, then spend the rest on a nice CC-sized pistol. Save the ~$1k+ you have left over.

If you have anything left over besides the $1k, buy plinking ammo for your pistols and put 200 rounds through each of them to get a good feel for the ins and outs of each.

What do you think of a combo like a Rex Zero 1 for 600, and like 300-400 on something like an LCP? That keeps me under a grand and gets me a full size handgun with something small on the side?

From what I can find on the Rex, it looks as well made as a Sig, with cheap mags and its affordable. But all the vids seem to be from shills that are paid to review.

If you like the metal handguns feel, then look at revolvers in 38/357, Beretta 92's, or cz 75. I would go with your preferred pistol cartridge if you have extensive experience with them. Then you could buy ammo/reloading parts with the extra. I also like the sig p2xx series, and of course 1911's. HK usp's are great guns too.
