I just wish there was an intermediate pistol. paying 1.2k for the 5-7 doesn't sit right with me, but paying 350-400 for the PMR-30 doesn't seem like a better solution, it looks and feels like screwed together plastic.

If you wanted to use a .22 caliber handgun for self-defense but wanted more oomph, higher capacity, better feeding, and center-fire reliability, this would be the logical step (outside of coming to your senses).

That said, it really doesn't do anything that other pistol calibers don't do mostly better.
If it was so fucking good as the fanboys say, there would be more weapons chambered in the caliber, rather than about 3 pistols ever and about 4 rifles/carbines (whereas only really one of each has any kind of market presence or popularity).

Safety placement is dogshit. 5.7 works better out of the 10in/16in barrel of the p90/ps90

Speaking objectively it's very accurate, very low recoil, has great capacity, and an excellent handgun overall. People hate it for it's fanbase, rediculous price, being a "meme", and bunch of other reasons but not for any functional flaws. If you like it and have the money, get it. I've had mine for a couple years and haven't been disappointed once. So is it a good handgun on its own? Hell yeah. Can you find a cheaper alternative that'll better suit your needs? Definitely.

A Springfield of similar size holds 20 rounds of 9mm.
A pmr-30 holds 30 rounds in the handle.

So it's one cool thing, capacity, has been matched by but with non-proprietary ammo and beaten with non-proprietary ammo.
The 5.7 is an older design now and not particularly rare. The cool factor isn't there.
It's too big to conceal carry.
The ammo is too expensive and relatively weak.
It's capacity isn't special.

What I'm saying is that unless you have a p-90 and want a matched sidearm, it's just a retarded gun.

Basically its a rather expensive gun with great potential and shit ergonomics, but its been neutered because the AP rounds aren't for civilian sale. If you have the dosh and want an expensive range toy, you should get it, especially if you have a P90 to complement it. Legitimate AP 5.7 isn't a meme, but the commercial one is for the most part.
