Combat/Hiking boots thread. I need some recommendations from you guys on some good boots for rucking with a 100lb loadout. I want either a combat boot or hiking shoe. It needs to have a cushioned midsole. Right now I’m using these shitty USGI Belleville hot weather boots and they don’t really dissipate heat at all. I’d like to find something that is ventilated with nylon mesh like a running shoe that’s the biggest issue. I’m mostly doing this on the treadmill right now so they don’t have to be extremely durable. Another problem is my feet are very large, I usually wear a 13-14 XW. Regular EE wide widths won’t work they have to be EEEE extra wide. I’ve tried regular width before and had terrible problems with my feet for over a year. Almost thought I had permanent nerve damage in my feet but thankfully they recovered. Never going back to that again.

The new Oakley boots are pretty comfy but only lasted me about 6 months, their outer sole is soft and it sucks trying to manage the bullshit shale terrain in bumfukistan.

The nike boots are good as well but with a harder outsole that will take a toll on your feet after a while. They have a new jungle outsole offered as well.

My comfiest boots would have to be the "summer" garmont 8 inch boot for rucking. They don't breathe as well as the oakleys but they offer a lighter version of that as well that I haven't tried.

I've had some pairs of danners, but they didn't fit right for me.

Thanks for the info, ultimately after doing more research I may be limited to whatever I can find in my size because it's far from the bell curve.

>100lb loadout

But why? I've done it, but only when it was an absolute necessity. If you aren't carrying mandatory, unstoppable military gear, my first piece of advice is to cut that poundage. Carrying a ton of weight when you aren't required to isn't tough, it's dumb.

How do y'all feel about the Rocky Jungle SV2?

I just got a pair and they feel great, but a reviewer said that they cause your arches to collapse.

Being a big boy of big size and barely making tape, I don't want my fucking arches to collapse.

Is this a real issue or is this guy sickly?

Saloman, Keen US (only), Redwings, Danner's, Lowa, Oboz. Anyone that says Merrill's either hasn't bought a pair in 8 years or thinks a long walk is a mile on pavement.

If it must be combat type I rec the Lowa Zephyr's.

Based on your requirements tho you might want something in between a trail runner and a hiking boot. In that case, Merrill Moabs fit the bill. Super breathable, no break in, but will fall apart on you in a year or so of hard use; luckily they can be had for ~$100.

Additionally, if you're serious about comfort while hiking superfeet green soles are a must have imo.

I looked into Merrill Moabs the only problem is they don't make them in 4E EEEE width.

Any good steel toe, comfortable outdoors/work boot that won't make me look like a LARPing faggot? I'm not in the military and have no intention of joining. But their boots look /comfy/. I had a cheap pair for my last job and wanted to kill myself.

Pls help bros.

>Military boots look comfy

Fuck no senpai, regulation boots are shit compared to what you can get aftermarket. Military regs significantly lag behind market innovation.

Not steel toe, but Asolo Fugitive boots were tough as fuck and stood up to an innamountains Afghan deployment.
>>
>>33775929
Thank you anon. Those look much better than what I had. But I'll keep looking because I do need the steel toe option for work.
>>
>>33775929
they let u wear your own boots in the military?
>>
>>33776006
Depending on you mission and command structure, yes. On deployment in Afghanistan we were waivered use our own boots and plate carriers with certain restrictions.

I got a pair of danner tachyons that are top tier in venting heat. They weigh less than most tennis shoes. I reccomend you find the right size, youre missing out m8.

As much as I love low as, they are thin, not wide. OP may want to look into the quest 4dx boots

Adding:

Currently cycling a pair of timberland mudslingers every other working day and pretty impressed with these hundred dollar pair of boots. Hands down better than anything at this price point. Just over one year (14mos.) and beginning to show advanced tread wear and beginnings of support failure. Others at same price only gave me six mos. of good utility.
A couple of quibbles are a shoestring loop failing thre second week and being waterPROOF. To a person who perspires like myself, this might be a non-starter.
In a pinch, they are decent hikers.
>>
>>33768445

i don't think anyone that browses this board knows anything about ruckmarching, besides the 1% of former military or currently active that basically use rockys, nikes, danners, etc.

if you don't need ar-670-1 compliant boots then i would just get merrels or salomons, which are popular with the thru-hiker community and all that jazz

i don't know what the fuck you're doing ruckmarching a 100 lbs. worth of shit though unless you're trying to get gains for doing some snowflake shit like air assault or selection

Yup, most likely broke in new boots on the hike, didnt vent them during, wet socks, Fin.

>>
>>33777069
Breaking in boots does not help with bad moisture management, which is the more likely culprit here.

Only problem is I have a foot that is probably beyond 2 standard deviations from the mean shoe size, It has to be EXTRA WIDE around 13-14. Most of these shoes/boots you guys recommend they do not make in my size.
>>
Basically when I ruck I've been wearing underarmor boot socks under wool socks, the wool socks are just to pad the inside of the boots a bit. Do they make socks for warm weather that dissipate heat rather than keep it in like wool?
>>
>>33768445
I like my Lalo shadow Intruders if anyone cares. Got them when they had a sale for $145 for op 300 memorial fundraiser. They are comfy and I enjoy them.
>>
>>33768445
I wear the underarmour valsetz boots and I love em. Wear em almost every day. Warm in winter, breathable in summer. Water resistant and light on the foot like a sneaker. 80$ on sale at cabela's -- would recommend.
>>
For a snow boot I'm pretty set on the salomon x force tundra or whatever the fuck its called. Anything better?

Also for a hot weather boot I want something with aggressive tread. Danner rivots feel like sneakers and comfy af but not sure about that tread and same for salomon quest

wat do

I do a lot of hiking in a granite canyon near my house so i need dat grip

If you are looking more towards hiking shoes I recommend La Sportiva Wildcats, very grippy. I hike regularly with these and a heavy pack and they do well. The "ankle support" that boots supposedly provide doesn't help you because your ankle is meant to swivel and support itself.
