WTF I want a rifled musket now
>>
>>33768183
You better do
>>
>>33768183
IDK why you wouldn't want a rifled gun, not if you actually want it to shoot worth a damn.
Unless you're using it as a muzzle loading shotgun, and not a rifle, ever.
>>
>>33768183
>Rifled musket
>Rifled

A musket is smoothbore, a rifle is rifled. Rifled musket makes no sense.
>>
>>33769649
>Rifled musket makes no sense.
Unless you want to use something decent for ammo, not lead balls, and actually hit something.

no.

A musket is smoothbore by definition. It has nothing to do with ammo type. Look it up.

Muzzle loader is the overarching term
>>
>>33768106
capandball is fucking awesome!
>>
>>33769726
I'm just saying, why wouldn't you want a rifled barrel if it's main purpose is to just look pretty. Why would you intentionally choose to screw your accuracy? The shooting experience will be the same otherwise.
Because lets be honest, smoothbore muskets serve no practical purpose.

>>33769726

I know what you're getting at anon but

>smoothbore muskets serve no practical purpose

What's the best way to mount optics on my P56 Enfield?
>>
>>33769776
But what? A rifled musket is a musket that has had its smoothbore replaced with a rifled barrel.

You're still wrong.
>>
>>33769844
Wrong:
>The term was later extended to include rifles that directly replaced, and were of the same design overall as, a particular model of smoothbore musket.

theres a fucking page on something you are denying exists.

How am I wrong? It's the same gun, or practically the same gun, that has had it's smoothbore replaced with a rifled one.

I mean, I know you feel like doubling down on your error, but sometimes you just need to admit you're wrong.

1861 springfields are sexy but I definitely prefer the enfield.. one day id love to find a 3 band smooth bore and take it out squirrel hunting. one can dream

>How am I wrong? It's the same gun, or practically the same gun, that has had it's smoothbore replaced with a rifled one.

do you know that in a muzzle loader, the barrel is basically the entire gun? the only parts left are the lock and the stock. it is in absolutely no way the same gun if you replace the barrel

I want to see what a small bore muzzle loader from that era can do.
>>
>>33770061
Not much. Black powder is limited in velocity so you need a larger bore to have meaningful energy behind the projectile.

That's why obscene 4-bore "stopping rifles" were a thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDYtxxRU_cY
>>
I want a Flintlock, with a hidden electrical ignition system.
>>
>>33770061

they're definitely out there anon, although their main usage were hunting. .45s, 40s, 36s, 32s
>>
>>33770115
I want a percussion cap gun, except instead of a percussion cap the hammer would hit a little piezo that would electrically ignite the powder.
>>
>>33769649
a rifled musket is a muzzle loading rifle. the name is necessary to distinguish that fact idiot
>>
>>33770101
I get that, but for target shooting I doubt that would be a concern.
>>
>>33769744
Not him but that is not what he was saying. He was just correcting the terminology not the opinion

Where can I find a regular ass 3 band Enfield rifle musket that doesn't cost a small fortune?

That's what I want next, and paying 1k seems like a lot for what it is.

Cap and ball is severely underrated as far as /k/ youtube channels go

It's my favorite gun channel. It enhances the tests with a nice coating of relevant history about the weapon and how it was used at the time.

>Rifled musket makes no sense

"Musket" meant "general-issue infantryman's long arm" in 19th century speak. They didn't call them "rifles" because to them, a "rifle" was a specialist's weapon.

So when rifled guns became the norm in the 1840s, they called them "rifled muskets" to differentiate them from the more specialized rifled arms issued to certain light infantry units.
