Not the same as an AK-107 which has a balanced action.

It's a good rifle. If the SLR-107R fits your needs for a rifle, then buy it. Is it worth its cost? It's a bit high, but you could find them for 850 and they're well worth it at that price point.

WASRs are eh at best.

Fuck that heavy ass shit. Only reason to get a VEPR is if you're getting one in a full rifle caliber or you're an SOT that likes to make post-sample machineguns. If you want a long receiver life, get a milled gun. If you want a rifle that you can actually carry and shoot standing comfortably for longer, get a stamped AKM/AK74.

The naming conventions have nothing to do with one another.

The SLR is essentially an AKM with an AKS-74 folding stock and AK-74 barrel components.

It's a great rifle, but has no relation to any military-issued configuration besides a passing resemblance to an AK-103 (to the uninitiated eye).

Veprs are unnecessarily heavy unless you want to clone a RPK or go rifle.
You're taking a 7.5lbs rifle and adding another 1.5lbs to it for no real gain per typical infantry doctrine.
The only real reason to buy one bar aforementioned reasons is that it is the only Russian rifle on the market.
