Why was the Mirage III such a good aircraft
>>
2 Reasons:
1.- Because they were flown by the Israelis
2.- the were flown versus the kebabs
>>
>>33756925

So good it gets shot down by harriers.
>>
>>33756925
A paper aeroplane could shoot down something piloted by an arab
>>
They were fast as shit and kinda maneuverable. In close dogfights the Mig-15 and 17 were far better at turning, but the Mirage III could just light its afterburners and bail the fuck out if shit got hairy.

That, and Israelis.

Superior socialist economic planning.

Jokes aside, it was a really good airframe and Dassault made it very modular, with tons of variants to satify the customers' wishes. They were still popping out new versions in the '80s.

>>33757419
Well, it was meant to be an interceptor in the first place.

They say the Mirage III initially had no guns.
This is incorrect. The plane had guns from the start, however they could be dismounted and remplaced by a rocket engine and additional fuel for pure interception mission.

Jesus Christ how terrifying
>>
>>33760042
Apparently they also had some very extremely quirks/flaws which made them an absolute terror to fly unless the pilot knew them ahead of time.
