While you don't need to go full gear queer, I think a decent plate carrier is a good thing to have. Get one and some level IV ceramic front, back, and side plates.

Buy once, cry once. You'll have protection against "AP" full power rounded and faster 5.56x45 M193 rounds.

Taping your plates onto a chest rig is better.

Op here. I was going to grab some level 3. The guys that use the pistol range aren't always the safest. I have been swept a few times. Everyone that uses the rifle range seems to have their shit together.

you're never going to be in a situation where you will be shot at and if you are, it will probably be when you aren't wearing armor.

As someone who bought ceramic plates and a nice plate carrier....this. I wore mine outside once in the mountains then realized I wasted $500, sold it for $400 and tried to forget about it.
