Can we get a sword thread going?
Thinking about picking up a xiphos from Kult of Athena
>>33752221
guns are better
>>33752221
i wanna get pic related, for some yank killin'
I'm moving into an apartment next year and I was thinking of getting some kind of sword or something similar for the apartment. What should I get? A sword, maybe battle axe? Something else? Any suggestions? Specific or general?
>>33755632
apartments aint that big nigga probably not a zweihander
>>33755632
Do you intend to use it in your apartment?
Then get a gladius or a machete of some sort that can feasibly used in close quarters.
Do you just want a display piece?
Get whatever the literal fuck you want.
>>33756176
well... define use
both my roommates will have their hunting rifles(no handguns because under 21) so that should cover us in case we need any self defense but I think I would maybe like a little something to feel adequate. it would probably mostly be a display piece
>>33752236
then go to a thread about guns. But you're too dumb to do that.
>>33752221
have a Kult of Athena Qama and it's fucking amazing for 40 $ i use it as a machete because it's so cheap and so far it's held up no issue
>>33756379
Get a wooden club and spray paint it with a camo pattern so they never see it coming.
Is the machete the best weapon for survival situations? kinda tired seeing weebs with katana in zombie apocalypse
>>33756379
Sword-like objects that both look good enough to display and don't break the moment you use them are in the price range of a decent pump action shotgun, just saying.
>>33758526
A lightweight pistol and a box of cartridges will protect your life from enemies that would kill your machete-wielding ass long before your ammunition would run out.
>>33758638
let me rephrase it then
"Is the machete the best sword for survival situations? "
Convince me not to get this
http://www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=SNDA5313&name=Viking+Dagger
I'm a gun person and I know little about blades, what real world applications could I use this for?
>>33758680
If your autism compels you to carry a sword-like object with you, the one that is light and has some actual use as a tool or such is best, yes.
>>33758772
in survival situations, swords like a machete would be incredibly useful. it is simply practicality. especially to conserve ammo.
>>33758825
It would just weigh you down. A survival knife would be much more practical in survival situations.
>>33759113
>Muh weight
How weak are you? Swords are a few pounds.
>>33759922
T. Some lardass who's never been hiking more than a mile from his car
>>33752221
that's a handsome penis
>>33752221
I have a few Albion swords, amongst many other things.
Kris are beautiful swords
I want to get a repro of a IXth century Bulgar saber, but noone offers it so it has to be a custom job. I asked around and with the materials provided it will come around $1500....why is life so cruel /k/?
Would anyone know anything about what kind of sword this would be?
It may be a lost cause but help me identify this sword. I've looked around the internet and all arrows lead to Nazi sword but I wanna know if it's authentic. There's an inscription on the cross guard that reads "Protected Pattern" in german. That's as much as I got.
>>33763154
Other noticeable features
>>33763251
>>33752221
>xiphos from Kult of Athena
Bought one for my brother. Very nice, solid little sword. BUT the scabbard is garbage and the sword will fall out of it so be careful.
>>33763154
Buddy of mine had a similar one, it was an east German military dress saber. Don't know about nazi, but could be a pre war or WW 1 pattern.
>>33760971
Looks Southeast Asian to me, my guess is Filipino.
>>33763955
I asked some more and it seems my grandfather had it made during Vietnam and shipped it back. Also found some engravings on the scabbard.
>>33764029
Most of you have probably seen it in the other sword threads... but, Valiant Armory Rhinelander I got a few months ago.
>>33758767
Looks like a pretty solid dagger. The only concerning thing about it is that they don't say specifically what steel it is, but if you're not planning on using it like a survival knife you ought to be fine.
>>33763154
Looks somewhat like a 1805 pattern royal navy officer's sabre. So something based on that design, or maybe a custom job?
What kind of point? Anything stamped on the blade? What blade profile?
>>33763154
>>33763251
>>33763271
WWI German Officers Presentation Sword.
>>33763154
>>33763251
>>33763271
The "Protected pattern" on it. Forgot.
>>33764276
What do think it's value would be?
>>33758767
It's Indian made garbage.
>>33764193
Pic of the blade. Nothing stamped look a bit corroded or whatever. It's has a lot of splotches
Wouldn't mind carrying one of these commie-severers at an Antifa "peaceful protest."
I'm still pondering an impending purchase, with possibly this thing and it's wonky POB...
>>33766508
Or this one at half the price, and half the effective hilt size.
Is there anything else out there with 2" width of blade, and a relatively subtle taper? Looking to stay firmly in the bastard sword range, not a full on zweihander.
>>33766508
>>33766540
Idk what you want, if a hanger or something that you can cut with... But you have to know that the first one is not historical acurate. Two handed "viking era" swords did not exist, and the shape of the blade is not quite correct too..
The second one looks like a hanger: blade looks too tkick, guard too thin, pommel and handle too fat.
If you want to cut and you like that "fantasy" desing, go for the first one. If you want something that looks like a sword for the untrain eye goo for the second one. But I think that if you want to start a collection you will be more sorry if you buy the second one that the first one in the future.
>>33766508
>>33766540
Also, the terms longsword, bastard sword and 1 and half hand sword are pretty much interchangeables. A zweihander its more like a great two handed sword that can be as tall as you, pretty much your starndar two handed sword from any generic rpg.
>>33764039
>>33764029
can confirm, pretty Filipino name
>>33763154
I have one just like that, Grandpa brought it back from WW2
>>33759922
A machete weighs a pound maybe... and that's still a lot when you're in a survival situation and need to carry loads of stuff.
>>33758825
>conserve ammo
Yeah, that machete will allow you to defeat loads of enemies like some video game character, sure. Think about it for a second. If you get into melee with another, similarly armed guy, there's maybe a 50/50 chance he'll beat your ass. How many one on one situations will your machete see you through? How many of these will a pack of bullets see you through?
And that's not even considering that several melee-armed enemies, or just one with a gun, will kick your ass 99% of the time. If you carry a gun (and you fucking should), carrying more bullets is ALWAYS the better thing to do.
That said, you're gonna need some kind of tool too. People in temperate woodland areas usually carried axes or short chopping knives rather than machetes (machetes are long and light). These are acceptable weapons if you ever actually need one. If you live in a tropical area, get a machete, sure.
>>33758557
Or you can combine the two and get an 1897 with a bayonet.
>>33767953
Sword bayonets are shitty tools.
>>33767971
Lol, wrong (You), sorry.
>>33767638
Yeah. This is the same story. Not grandpa though. There's also some WW1 medals I have
>mfw not autistic enough to buy a sword
>>33766714
>>33766690
Yeah, I know this. Basically, if it can be used one handed, even clumsily, it's a bastard sword to me. A 55" claymore really couldn't. These are both about 45"
Doesn't need to be historically accurate to a T, but does need to be tough enough for serious cuts.
My great grandfathers ww2 issued machete
>>33765572
I dare you. assuming you don't stab anyone, people will just take pictures and make fun of you for being a neckbeard weeaboo.
When I move into my own place I'll get a nice display piece but I have a cold steel gladius trainer. It's something I can swing around and pretend I'm Spartacus (1960 movie ofc) without doing damage.
>inb4 roman sword is a stabbing weapon
Yes I know, ask the pillows I've slaughtered.
>>33770822
On the subject of ancient cleaving swords, a good Falcata is on my wishlist too.
The best one I've seen is by Bongistani smith Paul Howell.
