The civilian variants have a long barrel due to the National Firearms Act of 1934 so in order to get the classic short barrel you'd need to fill out a tax stamp. Ammunition is kinda pricey, but as they get more popular the ammo has come down significantly in price since I purchased a PS90. The suppressor you also have to fill out a tax stamp for.

As for good first gun, it's better than a Mosin Nagant if I'm going to be quite honest. Absolutely no muzzle climb and very little recoil, trigger is also about as bad as a Mosin. Your main concern will be ammunition cost and cost of the rifle.

Ask yourself
>Do you really want to spend $1000 on your first firearm
>Do you really want to go through the hassle of $400 in tax stamps and several months of waiting just to cut down the barrel and put on a suppressor
>Do you really want to spent a lot of money on ammunition when you can get similar performance out of a rifle chambered in .22 WMR?

Ultimately I decided yes, it depends on your situation though.

Personally if I were to spend that much money on a first gun, I'd assemble an AR-15. You can make a pretty good rifle for one grand.

My local range has a full auto p90 and its amazing. If you want one, get the ps90 (16" barrel) amd fill out a cuck stamp later. Its a good, fun gun with pricey ammo. You might like an MP5 clone or a kel tec sub 2000

To make it look like the one pictured, you're also buying a tax stamp for a short barrel, waiting probably close to a year, and then paying to have the barrel cut or buying a short barrel and installing.

For the suppressor you're again getting a tax stamp and waiting.

After all this you'll still have a semi auto rifle. A Stargate Cool one though.

I'm looking at pap m92, rfb, and tavor too, and I'm leaning towards getting the pap and the ps90. I like the idea of fully ambi controls and usability. Tavor, and AUG don't do that.

Get an AR or AK op, this is like my 20th gun and I already have scorpion Evo supressed, and it's a fun gun supressed.

I've always wanted the P90 since I saw Stargate, and it's a popular tv gun, if you really want it and can afford to fill may for 20-30$ then fine, it's a fun gun from my experience with it.
Not a good first gun because plinking and accuracy training will cost you quite a bit, if price isn't a facotr I would recommend getting a Zenith MP5, if you are going for practical. If you want to scratch an itch, it's up to you.

I tell you what, if youve never bought a gun before, go buy one of the following:

Ruger 10/22 (ridiculously popular semiautomatic .22 cal plinker/small game hunting gun). this is the gun half of shooters learn on.

AR-15 (anything around $600-$700 is a fine starter gun, such as the DPMS Oracle or the Smith & Wesson M&P15, or perhaps one of the very nice $700-$900 Adams Arms AR-15s theyre selling at Academy Sports with optics included. good deal on those.) Learn how it works, its not self-explanitory if you havent shot before.

A bolt action rifle, anything from a Mauser to a Savage. These will kick like a mule if you get one in .308, but theres lighter .223 ones or you can pick up a .22 bolt action for dirt cheap.

A mossberg 500 in 12 guage. 12guage will also kick a lot but its an all-purpose round, from hunting to clay shooting to home defense.

A break-action shotgun in .410 guage/caliber. You can get single-shot .410's for literally $100 at practically any pawn shop and theyre excellent little squirrel/rabbit hunting guns.

Anons can add other good starter guns but these are what i'd reccomend for a new shooter. Always follow safety rules, wear eye and ear protection, and at least the first time you go to the range bring someone who already knows how to shoot and can teach you. Also watch gun videos on youtube, i cant think of any channels that do begginner tier tutorials but channels like Hickok45 and Forgotten Weapons/Inrange can teach you a lot about guns.
