It's duracoat, it's specifically made for firearms. So I'm sure it's heat resistant.

Just painted this
Didn't turn out as good as I had hoped
Stencils were too detailed, it was too humid outside so the paint got dusty and didn't set evenly. Tried to fix with a paintbrush on the front and made it worse
I'll probably strip and redo at some point

First I'd recommend watching garandthumbs video on it. He explains pros and cons vs an aimpoint. Second, don't listen to the memers about the PoA shift, odds are you won't ever have to deal with that. Now if you do experience massive fluctuations in temperature consider it.
I love it honestly, the reticle is perfect, I love the paralax and the both eyes open shooting.
Just do a bit of research and compare sights and see what fits you. The 1-6x variable on my AR is my favorite. It's not as easy to use with both eyes open but its still possible and not to hard.

Painting is all prepwork and like 10% spraying paint.

Clean and then clean again.

I've used engine paint on a few. Epoxy spray paint also works well, or a two part like Duracoat. Bake on paints and coatings are better if you can cure them correctly.

I love painting and am good at patterns, but the texture of the painted surfaces usually drives me crazy and I wind up stripping the paint and promising myself never again

ive painted 5 of my guns and i regret rattlecanning all of them except for the ar. the only reason i dont regret the ar is the finish was already fucked when i bought it. its not like it got any worse. at this point theres like 5-8 layers of paint on it. everything else ended up stripped eventually. much regret ruining the original finish. on the other hand most of the guns i painted were budget thing like pump shotguns or this 1911. nothing of value was lost.

I spy with my little eye...

rattle cans work wonders these days. used a bbq primer paint and then a flat matte finish on my FNX 9. came out real well for a test.

Wont hold up to actually stripping it down and doing the layers but it looks better than the two tone it was before imo.

How would I go about getting a look like this on an AR? As far as what would be the base, then the next color, then the final color if that makes sense? I couls probably figure out the stencil/templating, but ive never done anything like it before.
