It actually was really accurate like this, not the best scope mount but easy to shoot and grouped pretty nicely for being what I imagine was a $15 scope mount out of a Budk type magazine

It was pretty tight. It's really not a bad stock; I personally couldn't stand that fat SAW stype pistol grip on it, but the stock itself wasn't bad. Hated the aftermarket mags though. Hard to put in and would jam the gun up constantly

Saved a 91 Argentinean mauser that had a scope slapped on and the bolt was cut, bent, then rewelded on. Why do they do this?

Saved an early war MAS 36 where some asshole sanded the shit out of the front handguards and dremeled a notch into the rear sight. It's now the most accurate gun I own.

Shouldn't say I saved it but I at least gave it a better home. So can I save the bolt? Would trying to fix it cause further damage to it? I don't trust my welding so I'll probably pay to have the drilled holes filled.

Did you get the scope mount with the rifle? Just ballparking here, but I think the front hole is "on" and the rear hole isn't.

If you gor the base, and install it with three 6-48 screws, nobody will ever know about that mis-drilled hole.

CAN it be repaired? Sure, but M-98's weren't made out of the best steel. It can be welded, but welding it up will end up cost-exceeding the value of the rifle.

To fix that hole I'd:

Strip the rifle.
Call my welder buddy and have him tig it.
Pay my welder buddy.
Contour carefully on the belt sander.
Disregard the heat treat of the rear ring.
Polish with the hard wheel.
Polish or bead blast the receiver and barrel.
Blue same.
Re-assemble.
That's a lot of work.

If I was gonna cheap-out I might screw some 6-48 screws in there, cut off the head of the screw, and polish the screw flush, and then cold blue, but that's pretty Rube Goldberg.

you don't necessarily need to weld the hole to conceal them. put red loctite on some screws and screw them into the holes. once the loctite is dry, cut off the excess screw sticking out and file flush with the rifle. once it is smooth apply cold bluing solution over the screws,

Saw this Polish m44 at a gun show, and as I was looking at the table's other offerings, a guy examined it and remarked to his friend that it would make a great sporter. Needless to say I bought it on the spot not but 10 seconds later.

Years ago I restored a bubbaed Eddystone Enfield. Put it in a WWII era stock set from Sarco and it looked almost original.

I have an SKS that's modified for the removable magazines. It came with 1 metal and one polymer tapco. The metal one is just garbage but the tapco is great. I bought another polymer mag and it's also been great.

I noticed your mag in the pic was metal so I thought I'd mention that in case you hadn't tried the tapco mags, they work great in my SKS!

How'd I do? Some weirdo with an ushanka sold it to me for $80, it had a glossy wooden stock that smelled like chemicals, so I fixed it up, put a tactical grip for better aim, and a shoulder pad for my shoulder (Dislocated it 5 years ago when I tried to do a handstand in mommy's basement)

I have two tapco mags as well. Not a single one was capable of handling more than 10 rounds without jamming. Plus I hated putting them in.
