There's not a good reason not to buy a .45-70

>tube loading
ugh
>>33745932
Definitely worth getting into reloading if you buy a .45-70. A single stage setup is dirt cheap and easy to learn.

Grab a henry singleshot in 45-70.
>>33746220
Is that an 8 shot tube or something?
Holy fuck that is long.
>>33746276
9 in the tube. Longest normal production tube but Winchester made even longer on special order.
>>33746276
You were one bad hombre in the 19th century with one of those.

>9+1 45-70
>octagonal barrel
>case colored finish
Holy fuck, /want/
Having a hard time imagining needing that much firepower on a hunt tho. Looks to be over 4 feet long too. Not what I'd want to bring into the Alaskan brush on a bear hunt.
Watch the Hornady rounds op. If you reload you'll notice their cases are shorter so you have to stick to their silly ass bullets if you want to reload em.
I buy hsm bear loads for reloading. They are stout for factory and the brass is solid.

If you're hunting bear for meat, I agree. If you only want it dead, I beg you to reconsider.
>>33747930
You don't have to use the Leverevolution bullets in the Hornady cases. They just have slightly reduced case capacity. Not at all an issue unless you're going for full tilt maximum pressure loads. The slightly reduced case capacity could be dangerous in those type of loads.
It's a good life OP

I'm getting an 1895 Cowboy for this exact purpose before my Alaska trip in September.

Tactifags will dump on .45-70, but the reality is that it still has its merits even today. It is effective against any animal on earth, including the African Big Five, and, as a cartridge, it actually has advantages over other calibers that use spitzer bullets in certain situations. Go watch IV8888's video on brush guns for a more detailed explanation on the latter point.

1886 Winchester chambered in .45-70. Manufactured in 1897.

Do you trust any government?
I enjoyed mine. Kind of regret selling it but I got a 458 Lott instead. Backpacking gun will be a hot n light 44 mag instead.
