I always meant to ask.

What kind of stripper clips do these things take?

I've never found any clips for 7.62 NATO outside of some absurdly expensive Aussie stuff on Libertytree collectors.
So am I able to use old Mauser clips?

And Elcans?
Why are they shit?
I posted in the last thread but I guess it's dead now.
>>
>>33745682
There's standard 5 round 7.62 NATO clips, you can use them on the M14 mags with a spoon and on FAL mags with a mag loader, I've got two of the loaders and a spoon I accidentally bought. I've also got a fucking gallon ziploc bag of clips+another 25 that I got a while ago
>>
>>33745648
that gun is so fucking ugly
>>
>>33745761
NCstar makes 10 round 308 stripper clips and they work fine for me

>>33745682

Elcans apparently have wandering zero
>>
>>33745761

Really the optic and barrel ruin it for me a bit, can't wait till they're both changed

>>33746218
I've got an insane amount of clips and I spent like 30 dollars total for em I think, interesting to know tho

>>33746226
It can but you can also load mags which is handy at the range
>>

Won't be a barrel swap, I'm gonna get another upper and a barrel and move the lower so I can go back to fixed stock 21 on this upper

>>33746268
Because I like the FAL better than the Scar, and at this point I have 1.5 FALs that are both more enjoyable the basic factory Scar I could buy with the money I've already spent on FALs
>>
>>33746298
>Because I like the FAL better than the Scar

obviously not considering everything you're doing to it is making it a SCAR

Your total cost will be 1.5 SCARs by the time you're done
>>
>shoot fatass .308 c308 (g3 clone)
>thumps shoulder, completely disoriented
>have to take a sec to recollect my whits and get my sight back on target
>find myself flinching on empty shots
How do you guys do it?
>>
>>33746307
Except it'll still handle nothing like a Scar and be more aesthetic doing it

And my total cost will probably be more like 2.5-3 Scars since this steel lower will be turned into a 50.63 when I find a different lower to complete my Tactifal project. And all 3 rifles will still be cooler than those factory Scars or one completely kitted out Scar
>>
>>33746321
I'm glad you were here to tell us the C308 was in 308 and was also a G3 clone
We'd have never known

how does shooting a gun disorient you
Let alone a 308
>>
>>33746332

yeah objectively worse and heavier

you've ruined all aesthetics of the FAL by putting shoehorned AR parts on it

>It'll be a few ounces heavier with hiduminium parts

except the heaviest parts were never made of hidinium so no it won't be

Also,
>hidinium

Oh, so you'll have a single FAL that costs more than a single SCAR
And you want multiples

What the fuck is point of owning an FAL if not for the looks?

It's objectively worse handling than the SCAR or other rifle, it's more expensive to shoot, more expensive magazines

You're buying the FAL for the aesthetics and collector value (as proven by you buying Hidinium and building a 50.63) yet you have neither

I've priced it out, cost will be lower than a scar, if not just barely. Probably somewhere in the mid 2000s
>want multiple
One 21 fixed stock, one 50.63, one tactifun that I can use for high speed low drag .308 operating in a platform I like
>objectively worse handling
Train more. I prefer my FAL and AK ergos to AR or Scar
>more expensive to shoot
They both shoot 7.62x51 last I checked

Are Scar mags cheaper than 15-20 now?
>buying the fal for aesthetics and collector value yet you have neither
Do you think I'm just gonna throw away my Stg 58 and Belgian para lower?

possible does not scale on a graph from easy to hard, dumbass

there are better and worse and the FAL is objectively worse

Do you really think for a second that FN would have changed it to a worse system?
>>

This is how I want my first FAL to be. STG58 or G1, wood stock and bipod handguards.

I'm getting this weird feeling you've never used an FAL before, because the ergos are great. And why are you merely pretending that changing the entire internals of a gun would allow FN to keep the exact same ergos as the FAL? Especially when that rifle was developed to meet requirements posted by SOCOM, not the individual wants of the people at FN

>>33746470
Takes forever to get approved there, IKTF. There'll be more rifles though. I'd recommend the Stg 58 over the G1 just cause of the superior barrels

Again, train. Ergos are literally all user opinion. I don't like the Scar layout, handled them, haven't shot unfortunately, but I'm not a fan of the layout. I'm not really a fan of anything that's laid out like an AR, but I'm not gonna trash the AR just because of my preferences

>>33746496
Get the FAL, I don't really talk about it but deep down my FAL has kinda topped my AK for absolute favorite rifle. Still love my AK to death tho

>>33746500
It's just gonna be moved, not a hard process or anything which is what baffles me about people complaining
>WHY DID YOU CHANGE IT????
Other than the fact that Vltor seems to have fucked up and made one of the screws a PITA everything is just a simple furniture swap

Keychain is just a ziptie so I could cut it if I want, but where's the fun in having it if it doesn't wear it?
>>
>>33746518
>if you train that negates the fact that other things are better

You have shit arguments
>>
>>33746520
>what is familiarization
>what is preference
Ergos isn't a 1-10 scale, it's literally all preferences and familiarization. But you knew that right?
>>
>>33746508
Idk, I was going to try it on armslist here for $700 and see what I can get. 2 steel CETME mags, 2 aluminum G3 mags, sling, and bayonet.

Mine seems to be a rare one that functions flawlessly. I've put ~500 rounds of Wolf and brown bear through it. Peg water bottles at 100 yards disappointingly fast, run out of targets in about a minute.

Right now it is wearing green G3 furniture. It has the wood butt and handguard, but for whatever reason, the backplate on it is from a G3 and the wood stock doesn't fit in it correctly. The previous owner had used two wood screws to hold it but it obviously wobbled. I spent about $40 in all the small buttstock parts to try to fix it and then gave up because it was cheaper to put the surplus G3 furniture on it.
>>
>>33746526

Ergonomics is more than just what you like. A G3 is an ergonomic shit show, doesn't matter how much training or how much you like it. An AR style rifle, no matter how much you might loathe it, has better ergonomics

What's a BV-8 Night vision scope worth? I found one that I bought for $100 and it's in nice shape but it doesn't have a battery so idk if it works.

Ok I posted in SQTDDTOT but no one replied...Just how prohibitive is the cost of a FAL or any of its variants? If it's too pricey, are there any alternatives I could find easily/cheaply instead?
>>
>>33750881
FALs will generally cost upwards of $1000. You can build or find used ones for around that much and then the price goes up as you get nicer or rarer parts. DSA is generally considered OK, but overpriced.
>>
>>33750881
>>33751566
If you're looking at alternatives, PTRs are pretty good G3 clones that sit around $1000 give or take a bit depending on the model. AR10s can be had or built for about that much and the price can go way up depending how nice you want it to be. SCARs are around $3k now if you're looking to spend that much. M1as are generally pretty overpriced. As always, avoid Century guns.

What's the cheapest FAL that isn't a piece of garbage that has good aesthetics (Wood preferred)?
>>
>>33755088
Stg58 or Imbel kit builds, if you wait around you can probably get one for as low as 900, but 1200 is a more realistic number. Good luck getting metric wood though, sets are expensive and relatively hard to come by for surplus. More likely outcome is you'll spend between 100-200 on a pistol grip and stock as a set, maybe cheaper if you get lucky, and then wait around looking for a wood handguard if you really want one

Bumping with my big toys since I haven't posted the new vepr in one of these threads yet.
The MAS is probably the only one that counts as a battle rifle for sure, but I'll let /brg/ fight over whether they want to call the vepr battle rifle-ish material or not. Every rifle here has essentially the same function, only differences being a few inches of barrel. They all have side-scope rails. But the vepr is the only one that can take 20+rd mags.

These are just a few examples. What it comes down to is that you may get lucky on your roll of the dice and get something that works. What's much more likely is that you'll get a gun that will require some modifications to even get remotely reliable. If you feel comfortable doing some home gunsmithing then go for it. The bright side is that the problems are pretty well documented at least. Good luck to you if you decide to buy it.
