Why the fuck was Elmer Fudd hunting rabbits with a 12 gauge shotgun? Didn't he want there to be any left of it to make rabbit stew with when he got home? I mean, I know this was the 40s and 50s, so .223 wasn't exactly a popular round back then, but couldn't he have picked *something* a little more appropriate for the type of game he was hunting? I mean, for rabbit, even .22lr will work fine. WTF was he thinking?
>>
How do you know it was 12-gauge? He's shorter than Bugs so we're talking extreme manlet.
>>
>>33745199
A 12 gauge with #6 or #7 shot is perfectly acceptable for small ground game including rabbits.
>>
>>33745405
How many metal pellets do you want buried in the meat you're eating?
>>
>>33745443
You never said we had to eat it.
>>
>>33745199
Speaking of cartoons and guns. I want one of those 30 inch double barrels that disney characters used to use after the blunderbuss and flintlock went out of style.
>>
>>33745448
Elmer talks about making fwicassee or wabbit stew all the time.
>>
>>33745458
In that case use a narrow choke and shoot it in the head.
>>
>>33745199
it was his duck season gun
>>
>>33745392
Forget the manlet issue, Bugs is fucking huge. 12 gauge is going to be just fine.
>>
Elmer doesn't hunt for food, in one cartoon he says and I quote "I’m sowwy fellas, but I’m a vegetarian, I just hunt for the sport of it."
>>
>>33745525
must have been a shitty 90s looney tunes.

>>
>>33745199
223 is fucking retarded for rabbits what are you smoking
>>
>>33745443
Have you ever eaten a rabbit? Given how tame #6 is and how little meat there is on a rabbit as long as you aren't blowing the whole ass end off with buckshot it's fine. You know people hunt game birds with 12 gauge right?
>>
>>33746519
>I mean, I know this was the 40s and 50s, so .223 wasn't exactly a popular round back then
Considering he's off by 1-2 decades and is neglecting 12g being the most prevalent chamber in for shotguns in the US....pretty retarded. Don't think he's ever killed and eaten anything

I'm eighty-six, years old and this is my first time on any site that belongs to my great grand son. As boys 12 gauge was all we had. If we got lucky and got a plastic hull 12 we would file the rim off of it and shove a 16 gauge shell in it. We had some even made down to the 0.410 gauge. Your adapters were always plastic with the brass or copper charge, and used a paper hull for the smaller shell. In the winter if we didnt have a cow or hog put up, we ate rabbits, deer, ect. There was never killing for sport it was for food for the family. And seven brothers and three sisters we learned no to miss.

I hunt rabbits and pheasants with nickel-plated #5's and a fairly open choke (usually either skeet or improved cylinder). Good out to around 40 yards, doesn't mash things inside 20 yards. I've never had more than 1 or 2 pellets in the meat of anything I've killed.

And I'm not alone in this, take a look at Federal Prairie Storm, Fiocchi Golden Pheasant, etc. Large, usually plated and buffered shot of moderate charge weights moving modestly fast. They produce good consistent patterns and each individual pellet carries lethal energy so you're not having to hit it with the entirety of the fucking pattern.

Knows his shit. He can take anything from boar, deer (with slugs on one barrel OC) to dove, woodpigeon, pheasant, turkey, duck and of course rabbit just buy utilising the correct cartridge bag.

The idea that rabbit or indeed e.g pheasant is inedible having been killed with a shotgun shows OP has never hunted much.

Too light 7 is a dove load. a 4 or 5 is more appropriate.

Hey fudds. Is there a caliber that can be handloaded for deer and handloaded up to bear/elk without causing undue meat damage? I have 7mm WSM right now and its fucking stupid, going to toss it for a much more pleasant round that doesn't blow a whole in everything form a mile away.

Large base on a short action was a terrible decision, and reloading this bloated casing pretty much requires a minimum load that's entirely too much for small deer.
