Yes. Mostly in Africa, and fighting gold diggers in the jungles of french guyana.

Btw, those are french marine infantry, ex-colonial infantry, that are also likely to see combat.

Do the chausser alpine still shove wooden batons up their arses?

People still get beatings in the FFL my froggy friend and while getting punched in the face by an NCO may be out in most western armies and the French regulars it is a fact of life in the FFL. Stop lying.

Glad to hear you lads are finally up for dying for your flag instead of trying to get others to.

In 2009, a Slovakian FFL recruit died from exhaustion, though it is more likely than he was beaten up by his corporal and died from thirst.

And nothing has changed I was talking with FFL last bastille day in Paris and NCOs still punch the shit out of their juniors.

On the second day of a four-day exercise simulating an anti-terrorist operation, in which troops had to search for and neutralise an enemy group, Tvarusko complained of a sore knee in 38C midday heat.

A superior took his water from him, poured it out and ordered that no more should be given to him. Punches followed, it has been alleged. He was made to stay out in the heat during breaks and then pushed to finish the day’s training by reaching the top of a very steep slope.

Eventually, after begging “water, water”, Tvarusko collapsed. He was pronounced dead two hours later. According to the autopsy, he died of a heart attack caused by sunstroke and physical activity beyond his capacity, not from any blows he received nor from dehydration.

On Monday, January 18 2016, 14 legionnaires from the Foreign Legion’s 2nd Foreign Engineer Regiment (2e REG) were caught by an avalanche while crossing a saddle of the Petit Argentier in the French Alps, during a mountain warfare basic training. The avalanche killed five of them.

What diy ou not understand in

>>Yup, and the NCO get rekt by justice.

As youd oesn't seem to understand that I agree with you, i'll make a more simple sentence:

"Yes, you are right, and the sergent, and leutnant that give those orders, got what they deserved by the justice, getting evicted by the army, then pursued by it."

It's 2017, and after loosing money, pride, and getting justice on it's ass, the whole army put a stop to hazing.

Foreign legion is a long standing abomination where the basic rulebook is foreigners lives are sacrificed so French lives are not. Even pretending that the contempt for foreign non French legionnaires lives or the brutality which is its culture exist for French regulars shows up the utter hypocrisy of your nations military ethos.

We had an Aussie Legionnaire who served in Mali on a couple years ago. He gave us a photo tour. The flak jackets they were issued had been in storage so long they disintegrated. They rode to the front on flatbed trucks, keenly aware that one durka could take them all out with a short burst. They moved very quickly and had good intel and got very lucky and ended up doing a good job with light casualties. But nobody was singing hymnals of praise to the kit they got.

Also, you have the remove 150€ on the 1395€, when you live in the regiment.

>legion are shock troopers liek the marines, they go first in the fight THEN the regular army come and stabilize the region

Factually wrong. Legion is rotated exactly the same as any other unit and whoever is under Gepard Alert at a given moment is the one going in first.
That's a legend dating from the time we had conscription and the legion was the only 100% professional unit we had (oustide of SF units and the like), which was usually sent first while the other regular units assembled combat elements out of the pool of professionals and combat-ready conscripts. In addition you used to need at that time a parliamentary vote to deploy conscripts outside of national borders while professional soldiers don't before 3 months of operation, which meant they could be deployed immediately on a presidential order.

As for the "Legion get good gear last" meme, it is factually wrong as well, the frag problem in Mali or Afghanistan was not limited to them. And it's a Legion unit who will receive our new assault rifle first.

>keep up the BBC supplies

all memes aside, the real deal is uranium. The French economy depends on nuclear energy, the fact that it supplies 75% of electricity in France, as well as the fact that nuclear technology is one of the leading exports of the country.

Where do you find uranium? Mali, Chad, Central African Republic. Where is the French Army in Africa?

Then, these countries have oil, diamonds, gold, rare earthes, which are good to have and make the joy of companies such as Total, but it's not as critical as uranium, which is to French foreign and military policy what oil is to the US one.

I'm also in favor of a strong EU, but not as it is now. It grew way too fast and is way too centralistic and bureaucratic. How could a union work when you have countries where the average monthly salary is 3000 euros and other countries where the average salary is 400 euros?

A strong EU should have been composed only of the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, the Benelux, the Scandinavian countries, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Greece. There was already enough work to do getting the latter four to European levels of development. Further, it should have a common constitution and a common army - there still could have been national guard style armies inside the different member state countries, but a strong and common army should have been a top priority.

The new directive on firearms is a prefect example of dumb EU centralism and bureaucratism. Firearm laws are typically something that should only be decided on a national level - if not regional level. What logic is there, that countries with strict gun control and high criminality, force "security" laws on countries with more liberal gun laws but clearly less criminality? It's like when someone full of personal problems is giving life advices. It makes no fucking sense!

I remember that guy. I do feel like he didn't like his experience one bit and saw everything through shit-tainted glasses.
It has to be noted that by accepting the loss of security-by-armor on the transfer through Mali, they were able to concentrate their APC where they were the most needed, despite not so great logistics, moving their personnel very quickly and without delay, and putting their opponent on the defensive, unable to actually threaten the convoys, so there was a certain amount of method to the madness here.

Of course all that is hardly reconforting when you're the poor asshole who has to sit on his helmet on the flatbed of a truck in the hope it will preserve his balls from an IED.

Impossible to be conclusive. Plenty of these pictures above are not FFL anyway, just frogs doing frog stuff in Africa. The FFL isn't equipped with the ERC-90 any more, according to the wiki page, but it used to be, and the VBL is so widespread it is impossible to know.

The Aquablue comic was worth the read simply for the Space French Foreign Legion killing aliens, mercs and pirates with mechas and massive firepower.

FFL is the true shock force. First to go, first to die.

But is the kind of hazing really necessary? If the cpl dont do the push up next to the private, and cpl only kick in the chest of private to makes them remember the importance of not fucking up, sure privates will remember. And sure the isis they will be fighting are lot worse that the hazing,

But it just doesn't seems like a good leadership philosophy, and doesn't benefit the team building between low ranking NCO and the privates.
