Japanese swords suck. Crap steel, crap guards.
>>33732798
>Japanese
reverse google search that image and then kys.
>>33732831
Where do you think Caucasians got their swords from? Japan through the silk road. So you can kys
Montante FTW. Because size matters.
>>33732982
Now this is quality bait! 8.5/10.
>>33732758
I like the aesthetics of the katana. They aren't the best swords around by any means, but I like the way they look.
I also like this flamberge photo I found.

Naue II
http://www.bronze-age-craft.com/Naue_II.htm
It was widespread for about 700 hundred years. It must be good to have lasted this long.
Looks fine too.
0.89 kg of national pride. And a kickass blade to boot.
Either this or the Kriegsmesser.
>>33735904
That's not a true flamberge tho bud.

Yea you're supposed to be in class little billy.
>>33737641
Polish saber? Looks nice.
Maker?
>>33738807
Yes it is. This article gives definitions of the various kinds of wavy bladed swords.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame-bladed_sword
I'm thinking about getting one of these.
Not many hefty bastard swords out there.
My commissions for my feder and my longsword are based on the dimensions of this sword.
Type XVa is love, type XVa is life.

>>33739110
That sword looks cool as fuck but it handles like a brick.
>>33739156
Do you have one, by any chance?
I feel like I could manage 3.5lbs easy enough.
I have a cheap Hanwei reproduction Shashka.
>>33732758
>Post pics of your favourite swords
Sorry OP, this is a blue board ya know
>>33739177
The weight is manageable though a little on the heavier side but its the point of balance and center of percussion that are messed up. This is a common issue with many dark sword armory swords.
>>33739212
I've thought about doing a custom build, but that's like 3x the price.
Can It handle basic hacks and cuts, at least?
Something for everyone:
What's the shortest sword you've seen with a wrapped ricasso? Pics or it didn't happen.
>>33739323
Swords and guns are similar, you really want to finger fuck one, or as close to one as you can get, to see if you like how it feels before you buy. However it's much harder with swords unless you go to some event or convention where the manufacturer has a booth.
You should be able to do some backyard cutting with it not too different from any other sharpened piece of carbon steel but with that 19cm POB it seems more like it was meant as an impressive display piece (which to be fair it is quite impressive visually).
Compared to DSA's other swords of the same length its an outlier even, I'm looking at their others and I can see 10-13 cm POBs being their range.
I would shop around more and get more information/experience before pulling the trigger, but you are the boss so if you like it for it's looks then go for it.
>>33739412
Good advice, which I would be smart to listen to.
I am drawn to the imposing profile, but ultimately don't want to spend 500 on something impractical.
I like this one too, but the combination of hilt/pommel seems too short.
>be japanese
>proud descendant of samurai
>follow the bushido as much as i can
>practice sword related martial arts
>own a superb forged katana as sharp as wind
>can't carry it around the street as my proud ancestors did without facing arrest
Is there any more pathetic feel that beeing a swordless samurai in modern japan?
>>33736867
>36"/46"
>5lbs
WAT.
Please tell me that's shipping weight with scabbard.
>>33739538
>Is there any more pathetic feel that beeing a swordless samurai in modern japan?
Whining about the happenstance of your birth not giving you special privileges. Or at least that should feel far mroe pathetic to you.
>>33739553
It's Darksword Amrory, what did you expect, something decent?
>>33739528
The picture is deceptive, the handle is actually 10 inches long which is good for two hands, however it is Windlass so you do get what you pay for.
The 400-600 dollar range is a good rule of thumb for entry-level high quality swords.
Though their are exceptions like some of the tinker pierce stuff (if you can find any).

The 1899 British gymnasia sword (just beautiful to handle)
The 1796 British light cavalry sabre (the finest cavalry cutting sword ever made)
The 1912 British cavalry sabre (the finest thrust cavalry sabre ever made)
The 1830 Sword of state Louis Philippe (just before the French banned duelling and the French form of swordsmanship had crushed the Italian and Spanish schools)
The Spanish Cup Hilted Rapier
The Germanic Rapiers of the 16th century
The Cossack Shashka
The Hugarian and Polish sabre/Szabla of the 17th century
The brass hilter briquette
The ANIX socket bayonet
The M1866 French yagatan
The Irish diamond heavy spadroon
The early 19th century Solingen Foil
The gras sword bayonet

MR Site says 7" grip. The rest is pommel/guard. Wouldn't be so bad if was a stemmed pommel, but it bulges instantly.
My hands are about 4" wide.
Being a broadsword lover is suffering.
>>33739986
These 'broadsword' things are all modern made and were never carried in earnest. They are just toys.
>>33732787
Very nice

>Whining about the happenstance of your birth not giving you special privileges. Or at least that should feel far mroe pathetic to you.
He said, living in the only country with actual gun rights.
>>33733056
You do realise that the zweihander was effectively a weapon given to red flag suicide 'fornlorn hope' volunteers who has disgraced themselves or were stupid enough to volunteer so as they may charge enemy pike formations and attempt to disrupt them by shattering enemy pikes and impact the line? They were expected to die.
No swordsman would carry that or use it in any other context. Its pathos is due to its use in suicide missions.
>>33735904
Look at 16th century Germanic rapiers. You will enjoy them

that's not an XVa.
that's a type XVII.

What officer corp carries that?
Is this some wierd Swiss or Romanian graduation thing?
>>33740278
given he said feder, I expect he means he's commissioned a maker to do a custom job.
probably someone like Regenyei, Jan Chodkiewicz, maybe Pavel Moc
>>33740350
well done. you posted a gun in a sword thread.
We understand, you're autistic, you cant quite understand that other people might like what you're not into.
tell me, do you also post pictures of cars in threads when people ask about their preferred hiking boots?
>>33739083
No.
Just because it got this kind of blade it is not a Flamberge.
Flamberge were large twohanded swords wielded by Doppelsöldner (double mercenaries) normally, who got their name because they got twice the amount of money a normal merc got.
But they also had the job to use that thing to mow down the enemy lances, while being highly armoured.
So this toothpick is maybe "flamed", or whatever you call it, but it is certainly not a Flamberge.
Also the "flamed" or whatever form does not make bigger wounds as it was believed back then.
Like how it looks.
>>33740379
u mad lmao
>>33740379
>do you also post pictures of cars in threads when people ask about their preferred hiking boots?
Considering that I've seen this happen on /out/, it's entirely possible.
>>33740042
I was under the impression that Zweihander type weapons were often used to defend important individuals and areas such as a standard bearer or a breached wall from multiple opponents, since it's basically a short and fast polearm which can cut along its entire length.
>>33732758
I like my longsword and arming sword, have a nice sharp longsword and scabbard being made, and just ordered a sidesword since I've decided to look into Bolognese stuff as a side.
>>33740407
Flamberge describes the blade, not the type of sword.
My instructor has a flame bladed montante and a flame bladed longsword, both can be called flamberges.
>>33740495
Greatswords/Two-handed swords were used by those nearest the leader/standard. They also were usually the first in when facing pike lines to disrupt them. Also very good bodyguard weapons as you mentioned, see Figueiredo.
>>33732758
oh look its skallagrim
>>33742336
>>33742152
I will add to this that I may get a flame-bladed sidesword if I ever get a sharp one, they look aesthetic af.
Best sword coming in

https://www.albion-swords.com/swords/albion/squire/sword-squire-warsword-MII.htm
The only real drawbacks of the Albions are their wait time (9+ months) and the lack of a scabbard. Though their warranty is very nice
Flared ricassos make me happy.
>>33745237
Don't really care for either of those.
Would prefer a short type XX.
>>33739054
historicalmarket.com (technically, the company is called CSS Silesia, based in Silesia, Poland).
That saber is a reproduction of a historical saber from the Polish Military museum (and the original is featured in Richard Marsden's book on Polish saber - page 27, as are other sabers by CSS Silesia, mentioned by name in the photo description)
>>33740076
That is not true, XV and its subtype are classified by oakshotte on their blade geometry, which is a diamond cross section, type XVII use a hexagonal cross section.
This is my all time favorite white weapon
I don't know why but it look A E S T H E T I C as fuck
>>33748319
That's a fucking god awful repro man. It doesn't have a semblance of accuracy in it. Those are actual Bulgarian Sabres
>>33748408
which museum's that in?
>>33748761
National History Museum in Sofia. The weapons there are mainly Bulgarian that means VII-XIV century if you are interested in earlier weapons the The Historical Museum of Plovdiv is the place for you. There they have anything from Bronze Age swords to Dacian Faux to Roman gladius' and medieval longswords
>>33732758
>>33748945
thanks. Been doing some work with the hungarian museums, someday I'm going to have to get over to bulgaria and romania for work, and helps to have a hit-list.
>>33750004
Just know that if you go, you better speak with the curator because Bulgarian folks who go the museums aren't usually into weapons, so most examples are kept in storage brought out for special thematic exhibitions. Picture is one such exhibition called "From the stone to gunpowder 7000 years of weapons in Plovdiv" Normaly there's a single weapon exhibited from a single era.
>>33751098
More Thracian goodness from that exhibit
Gonna pick one of these bad boys up at Herstmonceaux this year, I swear it.
>>33751189
И get it they are probably good cutters, excellent defence, you can thrust without a problem but man I can't get over the fact of how godawful wrong their dimensions look to me
>>33751098
I have one of these and it still has spring,
>>33751360
Nice one I have a couple of relics from the war of 1878 namely two yatagan type bayonets for the Peabody Martini-Henry rifles. One of those days I'll clear coat them so they don't rust anymore than they already have
>>33751098
>Just know that if you go, you better speak with the curator
oh, if I go to museums, its specifically with pre-arranged access to the back rooms, for that reason.
but its always a case of making a hit-list of which museums.
>>33749576
Peter Johnsson's work looks fucking amazing
