When I had mine a point of potential failure was the extractor (not that they're weak or bad, just that if a part was to ever fail it'd most likely be that) and I was part of a group buy on the VEPR forum to have some machined as they were unavailable from Molot or anywhere else then. I'm not sure how available they are now but I'd look into whether or not they are and maybe pick up a few just to have on hand

Probably today sometime. Not entirely sure. I'd like to at least make an attempt to see how it shoots at 100 yards even if I don't get to sight in. The folder on the 308 is super easy to move back and forth compared to the rpk or 12.

I did get out to take 5 shots now. Pic isn't great so I tried to mark the hits the best I can. Furthest off shot on the left of the center was actually my first shot at 20 yards or so just to see where it was. The second was at 50ish, and the last 3 were at about 80ish yards.
So the hard part's done, I feel like it's sighted fine from the factory for today.

If you want to spend a little more and don't care about a rifle being a specific clone you could look into the Arsenal SLR-107R which goes for $850 retail and is a great Bulgarian factory made rifle.

Also if you buy a cheap chinese harbor freight press and AK-builder rivet jig, it will use a good bit of the shop press's power to get the rivets smashed adequately so they won't loosen up.

AKOU zeroing at 100m on the battle setting the 2,3,4,ect on the slider won't be accurate if you had a target at 400m then set it to 400m and fired, it would be way off.

Correct, Mel did test ESS barrels.
His conclusion was that yes they are way too soft, but as long as they don't deform while pressing the barrel components on, then you will not have any problem out of them during shooting.
I disagree with that and form my own opinion that I'm not going to own an AK with a barrel that is 5RC hardness, when it should be more like 25RC.

They use a countersink bit as opposed to a drill then champher. The countersink is drilled into the barrel way too deep and WILL result in gas port erosion. Pic related
