Who builds there own 1911s around here? Looking for a new project thinking about an 80% 1911 build, want to do for fairly cheap while I learn, what's a realistic budget for something about as function as an RIA? Anything I need to know before I dump moneys on this?

Their
put this together for 350 with a kit from e-sarcoinc and 100$ psa frame. it was a fun weekend i would definitely recommend it. one thing to consider is SS if you really want to get precise and blend parts with out having to refinish the thing. it works well but the grip is a little sharp. i have another frame and might to build with better parts some day.

>what's a realistic budget for something about as function as an RIA?
about 2 or 300 more than just buying a ria
and you going to end up with a shitty aluminum frame instead of steel since your using an 80

What's wrong, was your father not around to teach you the joy of building your own things?

you asked for realism you get realism

Legit if you don't have any tools, buying a jig, clamps, drill press, files, and quality parts will cost more than an RIA

My father was too busy teaching me how to be cost effective with my money and realizing time is equally valuable.

Your father must have taught you much about the goyim and their wasted money however building is fun and I have the money to do so. I have the money to build with no problems, but I'm short on free time due to work and family. My free time is valuable to me and I prefer to use it to do things I enjoy.

If its a hobby then just say so. You're the one who got assblasted when someone pointed out the painfully obvious fact that its a cheaper option to just buy a RIA.

start with a normal frame instead of an 80
an 80 is where most of the cost increase comes from. you still going to have to do handfitting with a 100% frames so you can feel some accomplishment.
or you know just start with a complete gun and fuckit up i mean "modify" it to your preferred specs.

I do.
If you want GI-tier fitment, you can do it almost entirely drop-in, using just a $3 Home Depot mill file for what little you do have to fit. It will be inaccurate and have a shit trigger but it will function reliably.
As to parts, no idea. I do bullseye pistols so I'm looking at $1100+ in parts.
