Anyone here know if this is possible?
>>
>>33722702
I could've sworn I read that the 249 isn't made to take magazines anymore. That they cut that feature to save weight. I could be wrong

On some variants, yes.
>>
>>33722766
I was referring to US military ones, because op used us mill designation for it. If he'd said minimi I would have said same as you
>>
>>33722702
im pretty sure ive read before that the 249 only works with usgi mags. I don't remember the reason but it sounds real enough.
Also unless shooting from the bipod i can see the mag getting in the way of a comfortable grip
>>
>>33722702
man, all I want is a stubby 40-45 round stanag or 7.62RFN casket mag, why the fuck is that so hard?
>>
>>33722995
Because we're still working out feeding issues with casket mags. It's hard enough going double to single stack. The surefire quads are unreliable as shit, and most every other casket mag has been relatively unreliable, although I haven't really heard about how well the AK ones function.
>>
I dunno about the X-15, but the C-Mag is compatible with magazine fed M249s
>>
>>
>>
>>33723466
I fail to see how this is an improvement.
>>
>>33722867
Not true, I know a guy that was over in Afghan as a saw gunner. We actually discussed this hands on, and the gi mags suck ass in a SAW. Pmags actually don't jam as easy
>>
>>33722702
fuuuuuuuck the 249. shit jams harder than bob marley. just up grade to a 240b and listen to the sweet cries from your enemies
>>
>>33723502

The improvement is you don't need a belt to fire your weapon.

It'll feed from nearly everything, but the mag (and spring) need to be up to snuff since the SAW will fire at an insane RPM when fed from a mag. A lot of mags that would do fine for an AR15 will fail to reliably feed in the SAW.

>>33725249
>The improvement is you don't need a belt to fire your weapon.

It was meant as a backup solution to keep the SAW firing after the squad ran out of belts. But it's not a very practical solution really. It's questionable if the added weight is worth the utility.
I see the merits of it as chairborne, but I think lots of guys in the field would rather do away with the feature.

well, it's cleaner anyhow. i've seen a couple vids of 249s jamming because gunners setup to quickly and their ammo is dragging dirt into the receiver

You mean with a loose belt?

That's why you feed from the nutsack or from a case that's literally next to your SAW. You're not supposed to rambo belt the thing.

As far as SAWs go, it's a shame the Zastava PKM in 5.56x45 didn't receive further development. It'd be great to see it face off in tests vs the HK & FN entries.

y not magpul 60 rounder
>>
>>33723035
the surefires work fine
One of the asian countries adopted the 100 rounders as standard issue

Using a mag in the 249 only worked for me if I went cyclic and didn't let go of the trigger. Seriously though, a fucking box or nutsack is so much better.

You should throw it in condition 1 and zip tie the trigger down with it in your mouth.

1. The M249 with live rounds feeds fine, the whole it can't use mags right meme is from using blanks that are shorter than live ammo

2. The magazine adaptor is less than an oz. Of material
>>
>>33726639
you seem upset
>>
>>33726723
>mag adapter less than an oz

Cut dollars to save pennies. Gotta love red tape.
>>
Ar15 drums are unreliable shit. Magazine feed on m249s are unreliable shit.

You want a paper weight?

Shut the fuck up nigger faggot
>>
>>33726858
One of my units had a lot of beta c mag drums. They wereally shit and we left them at bragg, while we were in iraq.

The 249 in my squad never liked eating from a magazine. At least one stoppage every othere magazine. Yes, it was live ammo. Ate belt food just fine though.
>>
>>33726905
I haven't had an issue with the mags before, but most times we used them it was just for shits and giggles.
>>
You should look into the Ares Shrike OP
>>
>>33722995
>stanag
stop this
>>
>>33722724
They can still take them, not sure about the Mk.46 and Mk.48.

Really surprised they haven't removed them to make these thing lighter, kinda just unnecessary weight. Could probably get the unloaded weight under 15lbs without all that junk.
>>
>>33726905
So a gun that was already known to have issues feeding from a magazine... had trouble feeding from a magazine? Gee your single example sure changed the opinion of designers engineers manufacturers users and anons here in this thread.
>>
>>33722995

It's not easy because the M4 has a large magwell. The AK has no magwell, so it can do casket mags no problem.
>>
>>33725234
In my experience is was the other way around and the 240b was a jamomatic
>>
>>33725284
The mag adapter is plenty reliable and barely adds any weight

>>
>>33725284
I knew that the mag catch also acts a dust cover for the mag port, but here it looks like the lever for the mag release also acts as a ramp to help feed belts, which is a really clever design.
