/k/ newfag here needs some legal advice on importing an air rifle into the UK.
I was gifted a second-hand Gamo Maxima air rifle with a 4x32 Optech scope. (currently in Menorca) and I am wondering what the procedure to legally import this back to Britain is. Looking through several government websites and FAQs I have learned that sufficiently powerful air rifles are banned/regulated. The Crown Prosecution Service page on firearms is all legalese, and I do not know whether it is legal to import it, or how. So what procedures do I need to go through in order to legally bring this back to the UK?
btw already looked at http://www.gunpolicy.org/firearms/region/united-kingdom, nothing useful

Is its power under 12 ft lbs? If so you can bring it in, if not you need a gun license to bring it in.
Dont know how you would get through airport security with it, you would have to put it on the luggage that goes where you cant access it.
Also, youre in menorca which is an island so it might be tricky to get it back from there, if you were in say, france, or mainland spain you could just drive through the channel tunnel like most people and they probably wouldnt even check your car

Problem is, I can't seem to find the foot lbs of it anywhere.

Whats the name of the gun and company that makes it then google that shit?

power is set in m/s speed, you need to convert it in ft/lbs or joules first to know its actual power

Britain, citizen! Hand over that weapon of war

Where in the UK do you live? Airguns are licensed in Scotland but elsewhere you can have them without many restrictions.
