Considering you didn't know what kind of gun it is, whether or not you want it, or what its value is to you, let alone the fact that you didn't know it was a gun means you should not spend your already poverty levels of chump change

Whould a commie milsurp bucket protect against blunt force trauma? I'm planning to go to one of those rallies where people get wiped over the head with bike locks and bricks and shit. You guys think this is good enough or should I go more modern (more expensive)?
>>
>>33719787
Realistically these never see any claims court and you settle it with the seller while the FFL stays out of it. It's just hoops they have to jump through to cover their assets. If it was damaged in shipping they should be able to tell, and that's all the shipping company is liable for. If the wrong gun showed up that'd be a problem for them too, especially if it was NFA.

So I've read that there are two problems with M855 5.56 ammo that prevent it from fragmenting reliably, especially at low velocities: its thick copper jacket (which doesn't break easily) and inability to yaw when hitting at certain angles (also preventing fragmentation). So my question is, why hasn't anybody made what seem to be two simple fixes to these problems, thinning out the jacket and putting an air pocket in the tip like the 5.45?

Can you have ammo shipped to your door in Commiefornia or does it have to go thru an FFL?

For the rest of this year it's still legal to get shit shipped to your door, but it will be illegal next year.

the wood the Chinese used for the stocks might as well be balsa wood, from what im told.
>>

That's unfortunate to hear. Granted, mine is in mint condition (all parts matching), and I don't intend to be banging it around, but I would have hoped the Chinese wood would at least have some durability to it.

CCI ammo is generally well-regarded and is probably your best bet if it's an option for you.

Actual Type 56 with the Chinese characters to denote it was a military rifle. It does have a stamped trigger guard, but everything else is milled. Functionally it's fine, but I'm afraid of harming the stock since I'm told the Chinese wood is VERY weak.

Would a clear nail polish be fine to use on this sort of wood on any sorts of chips to prevent further damage? I used to do with with certain older rifles, and it works fairly well.

I'm a bit frustrated. Building a 300 memeout pistol, with a 10.5" barrel. Got an Odin Works adjustable gas block, and it almost fits under my Midwest rail but not quite. I went and looked up specs, and that's when I noticed on the second page of specs on the site that Odin Works says the gb is not for high pressure rounds or pistol length systems. I've already pinned it on a pistol length tube. Not one retailer mentions this detail, nor do I remember seeing it on the packaging. If I'm using factory ammo, is there any reason the gas block can't be used here?
Here's a doggo for your troubles.
>>
>>33724915
I'm pretty high right now, but I'd listen to the manufacturer. The gas block probably cant handle the higher pressures If you're planning on test-firing it, do it at the fully-open position first. If you dont short cycle, keep it set there until you do, and then adjust it down.
>>
>>33724915
That's not a doggo, that there is a sea pupper.

IIRC, the specs provided are 'for optimum performance". That said, I don't have your same set up and can't therefore tell you from experience.

If you use the gas block, and it fails, you can't legally sue. They put that shit there for legal disclaimer status and distancing themselves from the stupidity of the average Joe.

>>33724909

>>

>I thought that cold blue paste was to get the color back, not the iridescence/brilliance of the bluing

Yeah, maybe you should try polishing it with 0000 steel wool? Or maybe wet sanding the finish off with super high grit shit and then re-bluing it.
>>
>>33724957
>If you dont short cycle, keep it set there until you do, and then adjust it down.
I'm pretty high right now and re-read what I posted. That's dumb. Dont do that. Do the first part but not this part and only if you plan on firing it, otherwise just return it.
>>
>>33724968
The reason I ask is because it's not just a gun I want to recover. It's an heirloom gun.

Incidentally, #0000 steel wool, a brass bristle brush, and some rem oil is what got the rust off and the gun into its current state. It was bad, dude.

It's really all preference of the shooter. For any scope/optic, if you can get good eye relief and reliably setup on it in a fluid motion as you shoulder it then your good. Some optics force you to have a really short eye relief (ACOG) but others you can play around with.

>>33725078
SBR's are still rifle rounds and most PDW's are either pistol or specialty rounds. Rifle rounds will more reliably drop a target than pistol rounds and as >>33725108 said, ammo commonality with other platforms makes it a cheaper solution.

For some applications for practicality PDR's are preferred for concealment especially for low-profile settings but once a situation where rounds start flying, the SBR is preferred.

>>
>>33720638
It mostly comes down to personal mostly. Without knowing the specs of your optic I'd say it looks to be in a good spot. With red dots you want them mounted forward enough so they lend themselves to natural pointing target acquisition, but not so far forward you can't pick up the dot.

The easy way is to just assume that any ammo you can buy at a store is in-spec.
The hard way is to inspect each box of ammo you're considering buying for a CIP (the international equivalent of SAAMI) proof mark (pictured).
>>
>>33732152
Thanks. I just heard a horror story of a dude shooting 9mm P+ out of a P38, and busted his gun. I got a little paranoid that I may have been stupid in buying 9mm that wasn't 115, or 124.

>>
>>33732192
1. +P 147gr doesn't exist
2. Postwar guns are generally designed around NATO-spec 9mm, which is basically 124gr +P, so it's really only antique designs like the Hi-Power, P38, and Luger that you need to worry about

Planning out my first AR. What are the advantages/disadvantages to the front iron sight/ gas block or a rail mounted iron sight. The only rifles I've used recently were issued M16s and M4s so the front barrel mounted iron sight gas block just seems more natural to me.
>>
>>33732692
>all that shit for $200
It's either stolen or it was used in a murder.
Also, buying guns for the purpose of resale is a crime if you aren't an FFL.
>>
Also, are AR parts interchangeable enough that you could theoretically replace every last part and build another AR out of the parts your replaced or are some parts more or less permanent?
>>
>>33733080

more or less yes, that whats make it an AR-15, unless you get into specialized or upgraded shit like SR-15 stuff, 99% of stuff is interchangeable.
>>
>>33720638
Turn your rear sight around boy. When it's laid flat it should cover the small unrailed portion over the charging handle.
>>
>>33720638
>>33733359
Both BUIS are backwards, not just the rear.
>>
>>33732891
There's not really any advantage between the two. I guess you could say a rail-mounted front site could be better since some can be folded down to present less of a snag hazard, or the A2 front sight is better if you're on a budget or want a more rugged rifle.

The real advantage is the railed handguard, if you want to attach things. Especially if it's free-float, which will improve accuracy of the rifle somewhat.
>>
>>33733525
The downside to a rail-mounted front sight is that it moves with the handguard, not the barrel, which completely defeats the purpose of freefloating that shit in the first place.

What's the best state in the south for a visitor?
I love southern food and trying out guns I haven't shot before plus for a leaf I hate winter so I'll try going somewhere nice during next christmas break.

On a related note, is the no singles policy universal in ranges? If so, would that make a difference if I showed my firearms license? Just to be clear that if I wanted to blow my brains out I would've done so already.

I was thinking that either Louisiana or South Carolina could be nice but if you fucks had suggestions that would be peachy.

The upside to that is that you never notice that problem, because you have an optic mounted, and never actually use your irons except for the one time when you sighted them in.

How strong are QD sling swivels? If I were to use a QD sling swivel for a single point sling on my home defense rifle, would someone pulling on the gun disconnect the qd swivel? Also what kind of QD swivel should I use for a sling with an HK connector?

The ones that are worth using are plenty strong.
Like, if you're plugged into a QD socket machined into your aluminum handguard, the socket will fail before the QD swivel pops loose.
For HK snap hooks you should use a horizontal, o-shaped loop, like it was designed for (shown).

How do you know which ones are worth using? I really just wanted something on my HD rifle to keep it from being taken from me and the only think that it has is a QD endcap so I figured I'd get a single point sling and a swivel to pop into the socket.
This was the sling I was looking at. (Don't laugh! I am a poorfag!)

It's worth spending a little extra dough on a good sling, considering it's what's going to be keeping your rifle from hitting the floor at the most embarassing possible time.

Just to be clear, though, does your rifle have a QD socket, like in the picture, or does it have one or more loops for an HK snap hook?
Because that sling you linked to doesn't seem to come with a pushbutton QD swivel.
>>
>>33735072
Don't be cheap. Buy a Magpul MS4.

Later, you can put another QD cup on the front of the rifle, so you can go two point, too.
>>
>>33735182
Yeah like the one you posted. The sling comes with the HK hook and just a strap for a swivel. I was going to buy a QD swivel separately.
>>
>>33735223
>I was going to buy a QD swivel separately.
Eh, you could, but after you add in the cost of a QD swivel from Daniel Defense, Blue Force Gear, BCM, or another reputable manufacturer, you'll be halfway to the cost of a good, military-grade sling that comes with a QD swivel already sewn into it.
It seems like a bit of a false economy to me.

It takes a lot less than 7 months to learn to shoot at a fundamental level.

If you want to shoot a little bit buy a ticket to vegas and get a 1 hr private lesson at a shooting range then go rent some guns and have a good time.

If you *actually* want to learn to shoot talk with some schools around the country like valor ridge, thunder ranch, front sight, etc. and take a trip to visit them if they'll rent you a gun and gear for a week while you take a class.

tritium sights emenate the same amount of light in all conditions.

Depending on how idiot proof you want your EDC system to be they can be worthwhile or not.

Personally, I prefer a non-traditional sighting arrangement that's only offered with "charge up" glow sights and the benefits I draw from my favored sight picture exceed the benefits tritium gives over sights of the charge up variety. In reality, if you use three dot sights and don't carry a special UV flashlight tritium is generally a better choice, so long as you don't mind spending the money.

Modern sports helmets are better against blunt force. Unless you expect shrapnel there's no reason to go with the less comfortable and less effective option that is a steel bucket.

>>33719974
That is one reason, but not the only reason charging sights exist. They generally don't degrade with time so after every charge (if you do your job diligently) they're just as bright as they were from the factory. Also, unless you charge them with a UV light they don't get particularly bright nor last for very long. the difference is UV for 10 seconds will charge them for 10 hours and a standard high lumen LED flashlight for 10 seconds will charge them for 1 hour (roughly).

Also, per >>33726865 it's impossible to fire that pistol while holding it like that because the hammer can't travel due to your hand placement. On a non-hammer fired pistol no injury will occur, recoil will be a little stiff, and the slide will not reciprocate. rail mounted BUIS can be folded out of the way for a more clear field of view but have to be put up to be useful (whereas the fixed sight is always there) and are generally less durable.
>>
>>33741044
What do you do as a warm-up?
>>
>>33733080
Yes. The only exception is parts that necessitate the holes in the lower receiver be altered (for example, a match trigger that requires EXTREMELY tight fitting pins, gas blocks, gas tubes, and barrels that aren't matched in gas system length, bolt carriers and operating systems that aren't matched to one another, and buffers/springs/stocks that aren't meant for one another.

If you want to build a DI gun from a parts bin it's pretty hard to go wrong.

>>33735471
Your question is incredibly broad, so much so that any answer someone gives will likely be useless. What kind of targets are you shooting at? What is the job of the rifle? What's your environment? What's your budget?

>>33735513
Depends on what you are asking your rifle to do and what aiming method you prefer. Personally, I'd re-profile the gas block when I put the optic on as the front sight is not visible but cuts down light transmission into the scope significantly.

>>33736180
AICS magazines have top tier QC, generally for metal magazines of that type buy name brand for durability and QC. Alternatively you can buy Magpul plastic AICS patter magazines and those are known to work well also while being lighter and not prone to denting or rust like steel magazines are.

Nothing special, just the one they have in their shop. Also, I can't speak for glow in the dark paint sights (ie. siglite.) They will be charged much longer by UV regardless but the ones I use (in link above) retain their brightness for so long because they use a large piece of plastic, not paint.

>>33741085
My standard pistol warmup is
>"One hole" drill at 4 yards for 5 shots
>"One hole" drill at 7 yards for 5 shots
>3x double tap for speed
>4x slow fire at 25 yard bullseye

really it's just to get a feel for the trigger and relative difference between the point of impact and point of aim of the pistol. With a sound hold on both of those, assuming your focus and fundamentals are good there's no excuse not to shoot well.
>>
>>33741275
It's most likely
>Not perfectly smooth trigger press
>"milking" the pistol with your other fingers as you release the shot
>Sights not properly zeroed

For most people a relative POI to the low left of POA is indicative of them fighting the pistol's recoil by punching as they break the shot but if you can keep all your shots touching at any range beyond 5 yards your technique is probably solid enough that you know not to fight the recoil.
>>
>>33741346
Oh right, I'm left handed if that makes any sort of difference at all
How do you mean by "milking" the gun as I release?
And its not necessarily they were all touching, it'd be more like multiple groups of two touching or near touching shots. However, I was also trying to adjust my POA as I say them hitting off the mark, so I'd imagine had I just kept the same POA even though I knew it wasnt hitting where I wanted to, it would have been a far closer group

I need tips on how to make the most of my range time to be a better shooter.

I feel like I've just surpassed "utter novice" level, I can zero my own rifle and pretty much hit what I'm aiming for under fifty yards, though my groups aren't that tight when I'm shooting at paper.

What drills can I do to improve? Downside is I'm pretty poor and have poorfag guns, I need to make the most of what I've got. What I have to work with:

>Range is a gravel pit, 200 yards long
>Targets are cans/bottles/other junk, or anything I can print out on standard letter paper
>Weapons are a Savage .22 semi-auto, a Hipoint 995TS, and a 4" Windicator in .357
>I can't afford to shoot anything but the .22 very often, want to do most of my drills with that

I don't reload so I could be wrong but that sounds like a recipe for keyholing.

>>

That sounds like a fucking awesome project. If i were you, i would test is out, at 100 yards on paper to see if it keyholes, and then on some buckets of water or ballistic gel to test the expansion.

Does anyone have this? I know drum mags are usually pretty unreliable but this has good reviews, and I have a fetish for drums

Nice, I didn't think of Tennessee.
Good rental ranges in both these states?
I'm completely willing to spend hundreds of dollars to try as many guns as possible.

I've recently come into possession of a barrel nearly destroyed Type 99 Arisaka barrel (no chrysanthemum), the exterior is rusty but is easily fixed with a bit of scotch bright and oil, but the bore is absolutely atrocious, the rifling still exists but will probably need intensive care.

My question is weather it's worth it to chop the barrel away from the receiver (at green line) and build a pistol caliber carbine/wildcat rifle with it or refinish it and use it to build an actual arisaka.
>>
>>33744262
I'd recommend a bolt action/lever action .22 that can feed shorts, long, and long rifle because a 10/22 is picky with what it fires.
>>
>>33744306
whats a good direction to look in that case. what sorta brand or company? and really changeable as well, i sorta want to be able to have one gun that i could try a bunch of stuff on without needing to get another entire gun

Savage but if you're willing to spend a little more money I think you should get a CZ.

Can't say I truly encourage getting a 22 though, it gets pretty boring to shoot.

You should try making the yourself, if its a wood stock, get a saw and some sandpaper, if its a plastic stock, get some milk jugs and a toaster oven. Save some money and take a bit of pride in doing work.
>>
>>33745859
Why do you want the laser?
Its of questionable value at best and taking just the flashlight cuts a lot of money off of the price that could be put into buying a pistol red-dot

Everyone on Armslist wants a CCW to sell pistols, and some even ask for one for long guns. Is that actually a concrete rule for people, or would most be happy with a student ID, drivers license and paying the asking price without trying to argue it down?

I have absolutely no reason to carry in my town, I just like guns.
>>
>>33748192
is this a scam?
>>
>>33748107
Check your state laws, in commie shitholes like mAssachuesetts and California you can get into real trouble selling to unlicensed people.
>>
>>33748582
It's not required in Virginia, it's just standard practice from what I can tell.

I want a helmet cover for my repro M42 stahlhelm. I don't own any German camo jackets from WW2 so I'm thinking of going with flecktarn to complement what I already own and maybe putting a velcro square on one or both sides for patches. Should I do that or just get a repro in an original pattern and be mismatched?
>>
>>33748107
Having a valid CCW permit means that you aren't a criminal.
They don't care if you carry, they're just compensating for the fact that non-FFLs can't do NICS checks.
>>
>>33748659
Go with the Flecktarn but don't bother with the velcro, it'll look classic but not Wehraboo, patches on a helmet that old would look old
>>
>>33748695
I was thinking that. Maybe I'll get green velcro so I can take off the patches and it'll still look alright.

Which of these should a first time shooter rent?
>>
>>33748932
most first time shooters should probably start with a .22 or a 9mm. limp-wristing something bigger can lead to jams (speaking from experience)
>>
>>33748932
Start with a .22, in both pistol and rifle, its cheap and allows you to build fundamentals while having fun and prevents you from building bad habits, which will happen if you start with something more powerful

It'd be tough to go wrong with the Kimber Custom Stainless 2 9mm. Most of my 1911 time has been on a custom stainless 2 in .45 and it's worked very well even compared to a Nighthawk I recently shot.
>>
>>33751016
no. Git out.
>>
>>33751017
So all of their cartridge holders can be blown from the same blanks or so that all of their boxes stack nicely on top of eachother regardless of caliber for maximally efficient storage of stuff in their warehouse.
>>
>>33751078
use an OTIS Kit. They're nice and compact unlike a traditional cleaning rod but also allow for the rigidity to push out bore obstructions or clear stuck cases unlike a bore snake.

that should be more than enough for field cleaning and really the only thing you need on top of that for more in depth cleaning is a set of plastic dental picks, some brake cleaner, some lubricant (teflon based if you wanna go turbo high speed autist), a chamber brush, and a few spare T-shits to cut into patches.
>>
>>33751593
Pull bolt back, press down on mag follower, slowly release bolt until it passes over the follower. Don't smash your finger
>>
>>33751759
What do you use brake cleaner on?
>>
>>33748932
Go GP100 or go home

I love how it's basically all handguns, and then one AK. Is this range in the ghetto?
>>
>>33749736
If there is considerable market demand I'll start go through the licensing crap and make a few for people, plenty of .38 caliber barrels out there to do it with.

That said, if you really want one but don't want to wait for some random faggot learn a bit about gunsmithing and mechanical engineering and throw one together yourself.

What do the colored tips on bullets signify, and what's the most effective cop killer bullet?
>>
>>33753898
>What do the colored tips on bullets signify

They don't mean anything themselves, they just distinguish the different loads.

Those are the SS195LF, SS196SR, and SS197SR.
>>
can some of you guys who reload give me your per round prices for various plinking ammo loads? how many rounds can you make in an hour? trying to decide if it's worth it to get into reloading and bullet casting
>>
>>33754026
I mainly hand load wildcat .17 cartridges from .22 blanks using air rifle pellets, they come out to be like .03-.05 cents per round depending on the pellet loaded.

Because I only have some wire cutters and a set of needle nose pliers I only can produce about 60-90 per hour.

In the beginning they were all over the place in terms of power and accuracy, but with a bit of practice and measuring straws I can actually get consistent power settings.

I would say overall I do it more for fun than practicality but It was a great learning experience, I would recommend getting into reloading but in the end I'm only one data point so don't base your decision only on my post.
