I can't seem to get a straight answer from various calculators

Would a 30-30 loaded with a 230 grain bullet and as much powder as it takes to get it above 1000 fps blow up my gun?

Yeah, that's going to blow up your gun because you'll need to start fucking with compressed charges in pistol powders to get that with 30-30 case capacity.

Jesus fuck, this is why I don't buy reloads at gunshows.

Honestly would be better to learn basic arduino than spend a thousand for essentially 100 dollars of several generations old electronics and a motor.

I'm showing a 190 grain bullet clocking ~1700fps on starting load. ~2000 on max load. I imagine you can pretty easily get 1000FPS out of a 230 grain bullet without having to compress a load.

Ive had poor experience with their dies. I like how they come with some data and a shellholder but otherwise il go with something else
>>
>>33712653
>>33711684
This to be quite honest. I have a set of 9mm dies, it was my first and last purchase of their dies. I like their shotshell press, it's pretty effective and super cheap.
>>
ive been reloading for about 8 months and just now got a case trimmer. i dont know what i was waiting for.
>>
>>33712653
>>33712703
I reload 6 calibers with their dies, including my match .308 for 600 yard comps. Never had a single issue.

It's a mess right now, but this is my bench. Got three out of four presses mounted.
>>
a chronograph is something ive been considering getting. thoughts?
>>
>>33712731
I had a 54r die from them, the decapping pin got torn out of the die. I placed it back in the collet and torqued it but it still comes out.

Im not writing off the whole company but im dissapointed since ive heard ok things
>>
>>33712728
I hardly use mine, and only then for cutting .300blk from 5.56 or making super target loads.

>>33712731
That's nice. I don't like the not locking seater on their seating die, that's my main issue. Had to reseat a bunch after a large batch.
>>
>>33712764
lol, you really gotta crank those suckers down before you use them. Happened when I started reloading .223. learned my lesson and tightened my .308, 303 Brit, and 30-40 dies before using them. no issue.
>>
>>33711664
So, as a Webley Mk VI owner who has to load .45 ACP for it, an I forever damned to having my brass split or isn't there a .45 casing that'll fit the gun a bit more snugly so it doesn't constantly split?
>>
>>33712792
Ive already bought another set. i tightened it as much as i could but fucked up my knucle when the wrench slipt, sort of said fuck it after that.
>>
>>33712838
That's why .45 auto rimmed was made.
>>
>>33711664
What's a good and cheap turret press? It doesn't have to be semi automated like a progressive I just don't want to have to reset the dies for every step.
>>
>>33712854
Auto rimmed is the same diameter as regular .45 ACP just with a rim though I thought.

It would split just the same if that's the case

I wish i had not gotten tje Hornady lnl.

It's probably possible with trailboss, the cheetos of gunpowder. It's fast enough that .357 mag loads are actually speedier out of my 686 than they are my Marlin, due to the powder completely burning, and parasitic drag slowing the bullet down.

Here's IMR's guidelines on developing your own load with it:

You don't have the twist rate to stabilize such a heavy bullet unless you've got some kind of custom barrel. So, if you're thinking about shooting through a can, you might be chasing that can downrange, in addition to suffering keyhole bullets and generally shit accuracy.

>dat oldschool Jap engineering instrument
>>
>>33711684
Some Lee stuff is good, other Lee stuff is shit. On the subject of dies their collet neck sizer is great, but their bullet seating dies are shit.
>>
>>33712980
Look at bushing presses too or whatever they call them, you put a quick release bushing on your die so it's like .5 of a second to put it on or off the press. But the Lee Classic line of presses seem good, they do turret and quick release versions I think and they're built well, unlike some Lee equipment.

I still use a regular old screw the die in single stage since I only reload 20-50 rounds at a time and it only takes a few seconds to change out a die once they're properly set up.
>>
Question fromperson interested in reloading:

If my ultimate goal is to produce large quantities of ammo should I bother with buying single stage first to learn or start with progressive?
>>
>>33714824
Start with a progressive, you can use it like a single stage if you need to
>>
Anyone got recommendations for a digital scale?
I plan to do large scale reloading and will probably more more towards some form of automation, between my friend and I we have about 100 000 rounds of 5.56 military brass we picked up over the years but we have not had the money to get into reloading between us.

Also anyone know where one might find data for modern 5.56 NATO?
I have an AR chambered in it and want to get as close to factory performance out of it as I can. I know they use some kind of proprietary powder but I still want that performance.

How good are these for plinking and target practice? Are they just polymer jackets instead of copper?
>>
>>33715924
Hardwood or stone? Should be good either way.

I bought an old woodworking bench that was bowed badly where the top had been broken and then glued back together, making the work surface extremely concave. Instead of trying to break it apart again, true up the edges and then try to put put it back together securely I just elected to plane both sides of it flat. Went great until I hit the hidden bits of metal embedded by some fuckwit in the past, had to stop there; it's not engineering flat but there's only a few thou of daylight showing between it and my square.
>>
>>33711684 breechlock presses and standard die sets are good. Their budget die sets and screw in single stage presses are hot dogshit.
>>
>>33714350
I buy bulk from precision bullets. I like them, they're dirt cheap, ship fast, and my guns seem to like them. I do notice they're very dirty compared to jacketed and plated bullets.
>>33715956
I use them for uspsa and just static plinking, never had an issue with them but to me they seem much dirtier. Or of course it could be that I'm putting them in front of bullseye.
>>
>>33715956
They're powdercoated, most of them are great but these are from badmanbullets and suck ass because of how thin the coating is. Cheap fucks.

Normally they have the positive attributes of
>Near cost of cast lead bullets
>Total jacket, no lead on steel contact, no need for gas check
>No copper fouling
>Only cleanup required to bore is powder residue
>Actually slightly higher velocity for powder charge due to lower friction in bore than lead or copper

I have had good results even with these shitty ones, about to shoot 300 through my S&W today so I'll give you an update if the thread is up.

>>

>>
>>33716151
>dirtier Bullseye
Pretty obvious why. Bullseye is still one of the filthiest powders on the market.
>>
>>33716160
>>33716151

Now, I know the whole no cast lead bullets in stock glock barrels because of the rifling, but would these poly jackets be fine?
>>
>>33716325
Glocks handle cast lead just fine.
>>
>>33716325
That is a CYA lawsuit avoidance move by Glock, clean your fcking gun. Either way, these don't have lead on steel contact, they're good to go.
>>
>>33716348
Any barrel with polygonal rifling generally isn't good to shoot cast lead through, yes you can do it but you have to be careful.
>>
It's a very thin coating, you could scrape it off with a knife but they definitely shoot cleaner. If I get the opprotunity maybe I'll cast some bullets and do a comparison video. There are definitely better coated bullets with a thicker coating but they're not $71 for 1000 147gr .356 to my door and my guns can't tell the difference.
>>
>>33716364
No, you don't. Clean your fucking gun, this is not rocket science
>>
>>33716364
That's complete bullshit. Over 150 years of polygonal rifling has proven it wrong.
Glock added that to the latest manuals because of the rumors of it KBing them. It's a bit of lawyer speak to keep people from suing when they hot rod handloads or try buffalo bore.
>>
>>33716307
I can make a keg of it last forever though and it shoots great, albeit filthy, in all of my guns. I use Vihtavuori n105 in my compensated guns and it is the damn cleanest burning powder I've ever used. It's also costs twice as much which is why I only use it in my open gun loads.
>>
>>33716325
Yes, that's part of the selling point. That said I'm pretty sure lead in glocks is fine as long as you're not retarded about it.
>>
>>33716401
I run HP-38 for all my 9mm, damn clean I can shoot 200 rounds and my gun is spotless.
>>
>>33716414
Keep in mind I'm a gamer, so I'm loading the heaviest bullets I can get with a light charge of the fastest burning powder I can get. There are cheap, clean burning powders I can get but I'm loading for the softest recoil I possibly can while still reliably making minimum power factor. And I shoot a lot of rounds at practice so the cheaper the better.
>>
>>33716445
I plink a lot, I have a hickok style backyard range. I typically buy the cheapest ammo in bulk so for 9mm usually just 115gr round nose. Recoil isn't bad at all with hp38 and its damn accurate, I get really good groups up to 100 yards.
>>
>>33716479
How many grains of it do you use for your plinking loads?
>>
>>33716401
Viht is clean right across the board, or at least thier N series powders are. It's no more expensive for me than IMR, Hodgdon, Alliant etc so it's about all I use. I swear it's also cooler burning that other things I've tried, my barrels don't seem to heat up as fast.
>>
>>33717512
I cant recall from the top of my head and im not home to check my numbers, but its along the lines of 1-1.5 grains over minimum for the hodgon load data, along with magnum primers
>>
>>33711684
I load on a 550 dillon with lee dies. I've never had a single issue with lee shit and I"m not really sure what the deal is. I've got a couple sets of rcbs, but I prefer lee. As long as you keep things lubed I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter what you use.
>>
>>33718052
This, theres literally nothing wrong with lee dies. Any problem i had was when i first started reloading and was user error. I like how they also offer free replacement parts, i broke a decapping pin once or twice. Not sure if other die makers carry exotic calibers either like 577/450 like lee does
>>
What's a good dependable single/turret press to get if I don't plan on making massive amounts of several different calibers? I only have a revolver in .357 magnum and a rifle in .308 and I don't plan to buy any more guns for years.
>>
>>33718992
Lee breech lock

The set with everything u need is like 150 on amazon
>>
>>33717715
I don't know where you're getting it then but I need to know. VV is close to twice the price of almost everything else I use. Which is a shame because I love it.
