What do all of y'all think of it ?
>>
You forgot the "i"
>>
now where is that supposed to go
>>
>>33709428
Whats good:
>Cheap nowadays
>Shoots .308
>accuracy is >5MOA
>Mags are somewhat common
>Parts are somewhat common (even Brownells has parts for it)
>sights are super easy to use
>recoil is somewhat heavy but still manageable

What is bad:
>No chrome-lined barrel
>accuracy cant compete with modern rifles
>L1A1 has no folding stock
>tilting bolt
>no picatinny rail for scope mount
>trigger is not good
>full auto is not controllable
>outdated
>>
>>33709573
>recoil is somewhat heavy but still manageable
Are you serious? It throws .308 like it's 5.56. Probably the softest firing battle rifle.
>>
>>33709591
Comparing it with modern .308 battle rifles like the FN SCAR, SIG 751 or HK MR762 the recoil is pretty heavy.

Any rifle will do that to felt recoil if the gun weighed 10+ pounds
>>
>tilting bolt
>>

Get a better barrel
>No chrome-lined barrel
But that's wrong you fag. Even though its out of stock, it can be checked for back order
http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/fal-fn-chrome-lined-barrel-not-cut-for-bipod.aspx

>L1A1 has no folding stock
They have adaptors for sale
http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=289233
>no picatinny rail for scope mount
Stop pretending to be retarded

>Outdated
So is the AR15, only reason why they're still used in service is because of its adaptability to modernize easier, modularity, and lightweight.

Or you can adjust that gas setting properly.
>>
>>33709428

If it Had an inline action and didn't have a tilting bolt it's be great

O wait that's called an AR-10 and already exists

But FALs are aesthetic af
>>
Sad that papa .gov decreed I'll never be able to own one.
>>
>>33709696
>didn't have a tilting bolt it's be great
If Red River Arms and a bunch of hues can make 5.56 rotating bolt FAL rifles, than I'm pretty sure the same can be applied to scaling her up for 7.62 NATO. Being a short stroke piston won't make her inline though...
>>
>>33709654
>Get a better barrel
Getting a new FAL barrel is almost impossible in europe. All you can buy is cheap L1A1´. Since most of them are used, it's like a lottery to get one with a decent barrel.

>L1A1 has no folding stock
Thanks for the link. But since the Bolt is tilting into the buttstock, I think it's going to be really hard to install this or it will just end up like the "Law Tactical Adapter" for the AR-15s.

>Outdated
Yes it is. WIth outdated i meant, most armies are replacing their old FALs (like UK, Austria, etc.) to use newer guns. The AR15 on the other hand is still being used and it doesnt seem like its going to be replaced anytime soon.

True

I was thinking more along the lines of having the bolt and carrier recoil inside of the stock
>>
Issued it when I first joined. I liked it, but I'd not really fired anything else at the time so had little to compare it to. Got an AR15 for Borneo and much preferred it for jungle usage. Since then I've used a variety of small arms and whilst it wasn't the worst, it was by no means the best. It felt at the very limit of its design. I vastly preferred the AR, it felt far more modern and capable.

For many years I owned a full length example in excellent condition. In fact, it was the first rifle I purchased when I moved to the USA. I enjoyed shooting it and it brought back some memories, despite being metric pattern, but there's much better stuff out there for your money.

I'm a law enforcer in Brazil, I trained a lot with these, we are now retiring them for the AR-10. The FAl is a very reliable and precise weapon but the project is old and it's a very heavy rifle carry around.
>>
>>33709806
What was the thinking, if you know, in adopting the AR-10?

FN FAL? More like FN FAIL.
>>
>>33709839
Most of the agents wanted to keep the 7.62×51mm NATO, we tested the options given to us, there was a voting and the AR-10 won.

>Europe
Makes more sense now, Lux Def Tec has their own production FALs with new barrels.
>I think it's going to be really hard to install this or it will just end up like the "Law Tactical Adapter" for the AR-15s
It isn't like that at all, requires minor modification of lower receiver. As quoted by the inventor:
>There are two kits, and each involve simply cutting the tang off and filing flush with the wings of the lower. The spacer is milled to fit inside these wings and allows the para bolt to pass through it. The wings themselves form the 'pocket' that is normally required for a para knuckle attachment.
>The short spacer, as shown, butts the folder knuckle directly up against the lower (or almost, anyway) and requires the use of a modified para sight, again shown.
>The longer spacer has milled recesses to fit into the wing cuts (like a Type A stock) but has additional material to push the folder knuckle back a bit farther to allow for the use of the standard rear sight base.
>Both will come with custom para bolts that are of the appropriate length and thread pitch for use with your existing lower. Best of all, these new para bolts will turn in with a 3/8" allen key, which means you can forget all that stupid screwdriver crap.
> The AR15 on the other hand is still being used and it doesnt seem like its going to be replaced anytime soon
You mean their modernized deriatives :^) A1s and A2s are obsolete since they've been phased out by our military.
>>
is there any hope of making a FAL a 3 MOA or better rifle with out being more expensive than a comparable or better AR10?

I could slap an AR10 together over a weekend. Once I get the barrel and bolt matched by a gun smith. Which would leave me with a 1 MOA rifle.
>>
>>33709884

Haha good meme
>>
>>33709925
No.

Really, there isn't. It's accurate "enough" and that's it, but don't expect anything approaching a precision weapon. Man sized target at 400 yards.
>>
>>33709806
>we are now retiring them for the AR-10.
I don't recall the 7.62 IA2 being an AR10 deriative. As a matter of fact, which province are you from? The based BOPE tripfriend that makes a thread every 2-3 months said they were phasing it for the 5.56 and 7.62 IA2
>>
Do the DSA parade stocks have a shorter length of pull than the normal fixed stocks? I want one of these, but the gun I fingerfucked at my lgs had a stock that was too long for.me to shoulder properly.
>>
>>33709925
Best you can make out of a FAL is a 1MOA with a match barrel, free floating barrel, and match handloads. Oh and don't forget to fine tune that gas setting
>>
>>33709941
Goiás, sou tenente.
>I don't recall the 7.62 IA2 being an AR10 deriative.
It's not, the AR-10s are all imported, the 7.62 IA2 was never mass produced, the army adopted the IA2 but the police of every state can chose the wepon used.
>>
Pros:
>aesthetic as fuck
>muh .308
>decently accurate for a regular military rifle
>good sights
>reliable
>better ergonomics and control layout than M14 and G3
>decent aftermarket
>paratrooper stock offers good cheek weld with no modification needed

Cons
>price tag
>heavy
>difficult to scope properly
>stiff trigger (at least on mine)
>>
>>33710003
Ah, ok that makes a lot of sense now. So it varies on the state and what they choose then?
>>
>>33709428
I think it's very sexy, and I mean attractive. I sometimes touch myself to the idea of abusing these rifles like they are women if I'm feeling deprived enough. It's something about the barrel, I think. I want to chain it to a wall and cum on it.

It also shoots a fuck huge round and hates communists, so it's good in that regard too. I've never fired or owned one though, and just think it's hot.
>>
>>33709428

>>33709925
Yes.

Get a new or NOS surplus barrel and use it as a manual action rifle if you want precision.

I.e.

Cut off the fucking gas by rotating the plug to the shutoff position, not the adjustment ring.

Remove the magazine and load individual rounds by hand.

Not that anyone here would care though, because it wouldn't support their LOL 3MOA meme.
