VEPRs and Zastavas are tied, I'd say. Arsenal close behind, WASR after, and everything else is better-pull-the-trigger-with-a-string-from-behind-cover-tier

Basically decide if you'd rather convert a VEPR or if you'd rather deal with the special snowflake Yugo furniture and side rail, or pay a premium for Arsenal's bubbling paint.

All time in the US?

Highest quality and most desirable don't always overlap
>SSR-85C-2
>SA-93
Both very very high quality but aren't overy popular because autism
>Polytech Legend
Popular and very high quality
>Norinco various models
>popular and high quality
>SLR series
Popular, good quality, some models are very very close to true military rifles
>SA-85M
both, pic related
>Steyr maadi, arm9 maadi
both
>SGL
Good quality, very desirable cuz autism
>WASR
Ugly tough, lot of people enjoy them so desirable?
>VEPR
Certainly high quality, triggers autists tho

I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting. Sometimes different importers of the same rifle exhibited different finish qualities. You should define a specific goal then find the rifle to fit the bill.
>>
>>33706681
You can make anything out of stupid high quality steel, tolerances smaller than a split cunt hair and thick, deep finish polished and treated to an autistic degree. Imagine a deeply blued RK-95 with perfectly oiled and laquored mahogany furniture. That's about the best you can do.
>>
>>33706193
Arsenal paint doesn't always bubble. Not sure what batch had the bad finish. Mine is a 2014 104 and it's fine. Anyone here had trouble with it?
>>
What about Saigas, for people who weren´t cucked by Obummer?

>>
>>33706818
I see that you have never magdumped your precious rifle.
>>
The highest quality AK is one you build yourself, or have a reputable Builder do for you. It's about the same price as an Arsenal, but you get a better gun.
>>
>>33707455
Not him, but I bought a 106CR fully acknowledging that it would be a piece of shit, thing would fail to eject every other round. Once Arsenal "fixed" it and I got it back I ran 150 rounds (120+30, I shot 30 more rounds after to check accuracy) through it non-stop and had no issues with paint or anything. It shot completely different as well.
>>
I doubt it's the best but my m&m m10 is pretty comfy.
>>
Arsenal russian sgl, Arsenal bulgarian slr, vepr, converted saigas, yugo o-pap, yugo n-pap, Hungarian amd, anything norinco, Romanian sar, Romanian wasr , egyptian maadi in this order

shit tier, century ras,c39 anything i.o
>>
>>33707433
But it doesn't need aftermarket?
>>
>>33705292
In reality, nothing. The fit and finish is poor, so they're ugly. There was a window where they were utterly shit, but that's no longer the case.

The recent wasrs also don't have the magwell dimples, as they use a plate. Not sure of the pro/con, because I don't have one, but the early wasrs and the cur/sar/wum have them (as well as x and y stamps).

valmet - super high quality and banned from import, which adds desirability.
Galil - super high quality and banned.
Chicom - high quality with unique features like spikers and stock rake.
Russian - vepr ahead of saiga due to fit/finish. The inventors of the AK = desirable.
MAADI - exact copy of AKM on Russian tools. Banned from import. But painted, so it can chip off.
Bulgarian - probably the best ak you can buy today - good fit/finish.
Yugo- good fit/finish, but unique furniture. No chrome lining. 8mm is cool.
Hungarian - good fi/finish on early guns. Later ones used amd gas tubes. Ands are not included here. Are the sa85's still imported?
Romarm - gets a bad rap due to sloppy assembly. Imported by the boatload so not rare. Desirability lies with cheapness as they are entry level. Earlier guns like cur/wum/sar are good akm copies although I think the bayo lugs were always ground off and the barrel threads were turned down or a nut welded on. New ones have bayo/threads but no magwell dimples.

My list excludes kit builds because those can vary widely in quality. And per the batf the receiver "is the gun" and if the receiver is US made, it's a US gun.
>>
Thoughts on the pre-ban Norinco?

Thx
>>
>>33707903
On par with Arsenals in terms of build quality.
Polytechs are the crim-de-la-crim of the AK market in the US. Literally cannot be surpassed.
>>
>>33707932
The pics I've seen close-up of Norincos... That might not be true.

Metal chips hanging out of barrel pin holes and under the rivets, etc.

We don't have enough Norincos laying around to compare them to a WASR.
>>
>>33706758
>Steyr
What is this Steyr AK of which you speak?
>>
>>33708127
Steyr imported some Egyptian AKs in the very early 80s
>>
>>33708112
We talking MAKs. MAKs always have something mucked up on them, earlier rifle were better
>>

>>
I say Yugo. Zastava.
>>
>>33705497
Other than not being an ak, agreed. My favorite gun. Too bad they don't come in more calibers, especially something like 308. I'd love to have a vz collection rivaling my ak collection.
>>
>>33707455
Magdumped many times, sir. No bubbles.
>>
>>33705317
>>33706305
I had one. The mag that came with it wobbled like Elvis with down syndrome, and didn't feed. At all. No way it was ever tested. Whatever, I had promags. Took it to the range, put 200 rounds of brown bear through it. The rifle was cleaned to a fucking shine a few hours after shooting, because new rifle. That was not enough to stop the shitty non-chromed bolt and bolt carrier from rusting and light striking. come range trip two.

I.O. is absolute fucking garbage and so are you for pretending it's good.

Fucking things has been out for repairs for three months now, because their shitheel factory is constantly behind due to the sheer volume of fucked up rifles.

I.O. is fucking great if you're a fan of a tacticool looking rifle that WILL rapidly fail, giving you anything from light strikes to a bolt that snaps in half in your hands, unless you're willing to replace parts that should outlive most owners when made by a competent company.

Fuck I.O. It has shit reviews for a reason.
>>
>>33707556
c39 v2 is actually good.

It's just the earlier models that are dogshit. There's one out there that's ~5k rounds with a silencer in without cleaning with no failures.

You for got the Sar series.
>>
>>33710508
Their furniture is garbage tier. The internals will not last as long as Russian or Bulgarian parts. If you don't plan on putting anywhere near 5,000 rounds through it, and you're gonna replace the furniture, ok. Fine. But if you plan on putting anymore than that you're gonna have an expensive paperweight.
>>
>>33710565
Reviews don't agree with you about the lifespan of the internals.

What the fuck are you talking about? The "best" AKs on the US market are bulgarian arsenals. Just because you "like it" doesn't mean its better. Russian AKs are notoriously cheaply made and inferiour to other variants. WASRs are actually pretty good quality for their prices. heres your (you)
>>
>>33712554
>Confirmed never shot O-PAP

N-PAPs are shit tier but the PAP pistols and O-PAP lines are some of the best post-ban AKs. I have an O-PAP. Sights are perfect, built like a tank and have shot 500-1000 rounds through it with 0 problems.
>>
>>33705267
I really wish we could get new production Finnish AKs/retro Galils.

The latter almost seems possible now that IWI has a US subsidiary. If enough people demand them, maybe they'll come out with a "Galil Classic" line.

Valmet rifles are not just banned from import, but the factory that made them is also long gone. The manufacturer, Valmet Tourula Factories (former VKT = State Rifle Factory), got united with Sako factory in early 1990's and Sako executives killed it off soon after. Sako continued making assault rifles for Finnish Defence Forces and produced semi-auto-only version of latest Finnish assault rifle as Sako 92S in early 1990's, but due to US import ban they were not imported. Also Sako stopped making assault rifles & 92S few years later and the production line used for making them does not exist anymore either.
