It seems as though Dr. Martin Fackler is the premiere in small arms terminal ballistics and is usually cited as such in regards to many of the common military calibers. His work suggests the efficacy of fragmentation as the primary wounding mechanic in rifle calibers. This is quite clearly seen in the differences between rounds like 5.56 M995 AP and 5.45 7N6 against rounds like 5.56 M885 and 5.56 Mk. 262 mod. 1. in looking at his pictorial cross section of wound cavities (pic related). However, in looking at wound profiles through ballistic gelatin it appears that Dr. Fackler seems to overstate fragmentation as a mechanic to induce permanent cavities.
Seeing some of Fackler's underwhelming examples like 5.45...

...compared against what Fackler indicated was considerably more important like 5.56 M885 and Mk 262 mod 1

It appears that fragmentation, on Dr. Fackler's part, is overstated as a mechanism to induce a permanent cavity and that tumbling/yawing seems to be the common theme among these three rounds. The Mk 262 did indeed fragment in the video but it did not produce a significant difference from the 5.45 round which did not fragment. Ironically, the rounds have almost the same construction being filled with lead and a hollow tip. The only differences is that Mk 262's tip is opened and it has a cannelure which aids in fragmentation. It is also important to note that he thought highly of the 5.45, moreso than his graphs might indicate.

5.56×45= 250.2
5.45x39=212.55
250.2>212.55
Its fucking simple math you bumbling retard.
