This isn't really a war crime, but my grandpa was in the navy in the years following WWII and eventually during the Korean War. The last time I saw him, he told early on during his time in the navy, he was stationed on some island or set of islands in the Pacific near Japan. His job was getting rid of land mines. He and the guys he was with would collect them and then safely blow them all up.

Well one day after collecting a bunch of mines they decided to set them off at the foot of this big dirt mound. So they set the charges and blew them up, but after the explosion, there was a waterfall of red sludge pouring out of the side of this dirt mound. Turns out it was a mass grave of Japanese soldiers. Something like 90+ people, he said.

The Japanese colonial apparatus had been dismantled and the Koreans, who had been fighting for their independence for a few decades are suddenly divided, entirely arbitrarily, by the USSR and the USA because of power politics. This is a country that has had a distinct nation for several hundred years, conquered by the Japanese, and now split up for no other reason than ideology.

It's only by a stroke of luck that a coup seeking to overthrow the emporer and continue the war until they were exterminated failed.

Uncle in law, whom my aunt has long since divorced after years of alcoholism and PTSD influenced domestic beatings, was in nam for a number of years. From what I've been able to piece together, he was navy, i believe UDT member, and ended up being selected for some CIA directed program, sounded a lot like the Phoenix Program, they did a lot of spooky stuff and killed a lot of civilians. Every couple years, spooks would come to my aunt's house to "check up" on him. The only details ive heard were in regards to his training; where towards the end of the program, his unit was locked in a fenced-in area with dozens of goats, and were told the gate would be unlocked when all the goats were dead. Also some dude cut himself shaving one AM and bled on a towel which resulted in a number of the guys having to stand in scalding water.

This was during the vietnam war and during night at the military training place my father and the guys snuck over to the guy and quickly blindfolded him and threw him in the lockers and locked it then they dragged the locker at the top of the barracks or office building I forgot but anyways they threw the locker with the guy inside and it made a loud bang on the ground.

Long story short the guys including my father never got caught and the poor bastard that was in the locker was really fucked up from the locker event but survived and never tattle tell anyone ever again.

My father is still alive and likes to go fishing every now and then with me when he gets the chance now and my father has the most caring and honest hard working soul he ever has and also he didn't attempt murder the guy since the guy lived.

Come on the military back then used to do things like that and they even do things today too hell i remember my dad told me the guys got one fella inside the outhouse and locked the door and just threw rocks at the outhouse until someone toppled the outhouse over.
