This is little know but the US was aligned with ex-Japanese collaborators in South Korea who would brutally suppress and kill tens of thousands of civilians on the northern side.

In fact the June 1950 attack was just an escalation of a civil war which started in 1945 and fomented by the United States.

The USA on the wrong side of history, AGAIN.

My grandpa traded seats with the m60 gunner on their jeep during down time in 1966 Vietnam after drinking a lot and emptied a belt at some huts they drove by. My uncle was in Vietnam and chopped one gook's toes off and another gook's dick off and then sewed the toe onto where the second guy's dick was supposed to be and sewed the dick onto the first guy's foot. Then he cooked a little girl with napalm and fed her to his platoon and said it was a boar. He also snuck into a village and dumped a huge amount of LSD into their well and then when all the gooks were all tripping he just went around and slit all their throats and peed on their corpses.

He killed himself a few years ago because he couldn't live with the guilt anymore. Press F to pay respects to a true American Hero™ :-(

The Korean war is still unresolved, I wouldn't call that a victory.

If you actually stop to think about it, the North Korean position is more reasonable than the US position.

The Nork position is - stop threatening us (ongoing since Bush Jr.), stop war games on our border and finally end the Korean war.

The US position - do what we say, no negotiations.

I don't think Trump realizes the civilian death toll that might ensue if the North Koreans feel an attack is imminent and pre-emotively strike the South.

We're talking about millions of people.

Essentially they would torture prisoners to death infront of prisoners who actually had information so they would talk.

my grandfather and his brother fought in the pacific. My grandfather lost his legs and died in the 60s so my my uncle was the closest thing to a grandfather on that side of the family.
he once told me how to kill a jap.
>stick him your bayonet then pick him up in the air and shake him til he stops screaming.
he was a medic in the war and this is the only time he actually talked about the war.
>>
This isn't really a war crime, but my grandpa was in the navy in the years following WWII and eventually during the Korean War. The last time I saw him, he told early on during his time in the navy, he was stationed on some island or set of islands in the Pacific near Japan. His job was getting rid of land mines. He and the guys he was with would collect them and then safely blow them all up.

Well one day after collecting a bunch of mines they decided to set them off at the foot of this big dirt mound. So they set the charges and blew them up, but after the explosion, there was a waterfall of red sludge pouring out of the side of this dirt mound. Turns out it was a mass grave of Japanese soldiers. Something like 90+ people, he said.

In fact, I believe there's an election looming and the guy in the lead now is a dove who wants to open negotiations up with the North.

I guess you haven't read ANY books on the topic. That's not unusual. Most Millennials have read fewer than 3 books in their whole lives. A truly worthless, zombified generation of dilettantes you are.

Let's analyze the facts.

The Korean war started during the American occupation of the South, and it was Rhee, with help from his American sponsors, who initiated a series of attacks that well preceded the North Korean offensive of 1950. From 1945-1948, American forces aided Rhee in a killing spree that claimed tens of thousands of victims: the counterinsurgency campaign took a high toll in Kwangju, and on the island of Cheju-do – where as many as 60,000 people were murdered by Rhee’s US-backed forces.

Rhee’s army and national police were drawn from the ranks of those who had collaborated with the Japanese occupation during World War II, and this was the biggest factor that made civil war inevitable. That the US backed these quislings guaranteed widespread support for the Communist forces led by Kim IL Sung, and provoked the rebellion in the South that was the prelude to open North-South hostilities. Rhee, for his part, was eager to draw in the United States, and the North Koreans, for their part, were just as eager to invoke the principle of "proletarian internationalism" to draw in the Chinese and the Russians.

My dad ripped a dudes dick off in Vietnam when he was sneaking up a river. When they snuck up on the guy to pull him into the river he was pissing so when they took him under they ripped his dick off. He also said a grown man can pretty easily rip someones ear off if they really try. One time I broke his thumb backwards by accidentally dropping a huge log on it splitting wood and all he did was let out a tired sigh. He cries and has to pull over the car when he hears the national anthem.

He told me that the local Vietnamese had learned to undo a watch strap at speeds I'm not sure I believe. He said that on patrols the locals would come up and say "time, time" and tap on their wrists. When the GI tried to tell them the time the local would pretend they couldn't understand English and motion to the watch of the soldier, when the soldier would present the watch the local would undo the strap and be sprinting away before the soldier could react. I'm not sure what you're alluding to. The Japanese colonial apparatus had been dismantled and the Koreans, who had been fighting for their independence for a few decades are suddenly divided, entirely arbitrarily, by the USSR and the USA because of power politics. This is a country that has had a distinct nation for several hundred years, conquered by the Japanese, and now split up for no other reason than ideology.

I don't think splitting up a country that has had a national identity for millenia, where one country is embittered enough to want to destroy the other is a successful example of that.
>>
>>33704545
You are wilfully ignoring the fact that Imperial Japan was a collectivist nation so that you can pretend not to understand context.
The truth is, our options were "invade the Japanese mainland and slaughter everyone right up until the leaders killed themselves or fled", OR "kill enough people so quickly that it cannot be propagandized and force the Japanese leadership to end their own war effort"
There is a reason we did not assassinate the Emperor. We needed him to tell the Japanese as a people to stop fighting, or they literally never would. There were Japanese loyalists on many islands who continued fighting long after the war ended because they were never told to stop, and there were intellectuals in the Japanese elite who knew every political reason why the war failed and STILL called for Imperial resurgence.

You are either truly a dense motherfucker or a cognitively dissonant contrarian. Read a goddamn book.

You're mistaking what I'm saying. I'm not saying the nukes were wrong or that we shouldn't have done it.

I'm arguing the statement that civilians somehow "deserved" to get nuked in retaliation to japanese soldiers committing atrocities across the Pacific.

Saturation bombing campaigns and the nukes ended the war. That's an objective action to take and it brought us closer to victory. Yeah, it sucks for the people who got bombed but they don't deserve it, they're casualties of war.

No, as individuals they did not deserve it.

There's a lot of blame to go around for that debacle, but I don't think the US did anyone favors by proceeding with the election without any sort of consensus or agreement with the other parties beforehand.

I mean, the Sorks just fucking massacred a shitload of people protesting against the election less than a month before.
>>
>>33704803
>No, as individuals they did not deserve it.
what's funny about this idea, in conjunction with lawyering "deserved", is this:
if you believe this, then no person in a war really deserves to die unless we can absolutely prove they did something objectively wrong, such as a war crime.
because, of course, we don't know if they ever did anything wrong, we cannot determine if they "deserved" death.
this is true for every SS soldier, down to every ISIS member or US troops, if you fully subscribe to this.
but.
war is not fought against individuals. it is fought against an idea, state, or other group.
following this train of thought, and for the moment, not regarding the rules of war, every action in every war ever was justified because it was a means to an end - that end, of course, being victory.
now, filter it through a lens of the rules of war.
then some shit wasn't justified.
>well then the nukes weren't justified because civilians
no. those civilians were basically soldiers. they all would have been willing or have been forced to die for the emperor, because honor. this makes them reserve troops/militia. every factory worker or someone related to it was assisting the japanese war machine, making them a valid target to achieve victory.
>well then everything the japs did was justified
sure, everything that wasn't a war crime. but justified, in this sense, doesn't mean "justice" in the superman form, it means legal.
so at the end of the day, not only was the nuking legal, but you'd have to be retarded if you don't think that everyone involved thought that vaporizing those motherfuckers was some form of retribution, and righted some of the wrongs brought unto americans by the japanese.

Fun fact; General Telford Taylor, the United States chief prosecutor during the Nuremberg trials, later advocated for war crime charges against Westmoreland citing the Yamashita precedent.

>...the case of a Japanese general who had been found guilty by an American military tribunal and executed in 1946 for failing to prevent atrocities by his troops, even though he had lost communication with the soldiers and had no direct control over them. Under the Yamashita standard, Taylor argued, Westmoreland could be convicted as a war criminal if standards established during World War II were applied to his conduct of the war in Vietnam.

It's not a great secret that Syngman Rhee was a butcher, though to be fair to the man, asians take purging to a whole different level.

The last paragraph I'd also be interested to know of some sources as well, particularly Rhee's security apparatus being tied in with the former Japanese colonials system. I wouldn't be particularly surprised it is true given that the Nationalists in China teamed up with former IJA troops to fight commies, the French enlisted former IJA troops to fight commies, the Dutch used former IJA troops to fight commies, ditto with the brits in malaysia

Politics are strange.

You know, if it wasn't for the fact that literally everywhere they went, the japanese military murdered and raped on an enormous scale that cannot be handwaved away as the actions of a few individuals, your argument may hold some water. The problem lies in that this was considered an accepted norm by the japanese military to the point where even after an area was conquered and the high command no longer had the excuse of "muh chaos and passion of war" they still murdered people and set up forced brothels. And this is just to the civilians. The POWs got straight up tortured and worked to death.

After a certain point you have to believe that while they certainly didn't do anything directly on their own, the Japanese citizen was complicit in a culture that valued human beings other than themselves as nothing more than animals. On top of that they were training women and children to fight with sharpened sticks and a grenade to take as many with them as they could.

So yes, they may have just been civilians, but they were certainly not morally innocent and were are rightfully labeled as potential enemy combatants down to the last woman and child. It's only by a stroke of luck that a coup seeking to overthrow the emporer and continue the war until they were exterminated failed.

The Japanese people's spirit needed to be crushed so that their conditioned devotion to what was basically a nationwide suicide cult could be broken. If vaporizing cities was needed, so be it.

>>33705631
I remember watching a documentary when I was younger about the pacific campaign. Near the end of the campaign, they started to come across islands with civilian inhabitants. When the Americans took the island, every man fought until death, regardless of being civilian or military. The women took the children and the elderly to a cliff near their village and jumped to their deaths. American forces were able to intercept a portion of the remaining civilians who began crying and begging for mercy, believing that the Americans were going to torture them, rape them and cannibalize them, only to be met with food and medical treatment.
>>
>>33705767
Or I'm just talking out my ass and it was a documentary that contained bits about the battle of Saipan, but civilians did jump from cliffs to escape ill treatment as prisoners. I guess they were told that their afterlife would be better and that Americans desecrate and defile the dead.

Uncle in law, whom my aunt has long since divorced after years of alcoholism and PTSD influenced domestic beatings, was in nam for a number of years. From what I've been able to piece together, he was navy, i believe UDT member, and ended up being selected for some CIA directed program, sounded a lot like the Phoenix Program, they did a lot of spooky stuff and killed a lot of civilians. Every couple years, spooks would come to my aunt's house to "check up" on him. The only details ive heard were in regards to his training; where towards the end of the program, his unit was locked in a fenced-in area with dozens of goats, and were told the gate would be unlocked when all the goats were dead. Also some dude cut himself shaving one AM and bled on a towel which resulted in a number of the guys having to stand in scalding water.

I remember long time ago my father told me about the time him and some of the other guys in the military got annoyed by one guy because the guy is the type that would "tattle tell" to the officers.

This was during the vietnam war and during night at the military training place my father and the guys snuck over to the guy and quickly blindfolded him and threw him in the lockers and locked it then they dragged the locker at the top of the barracks or office building I forgot but anyways they threw the locker with the guy inside and it made a loud bang on the ground.

Long story short the guys including my father never got caught and the poor bastard that was in the locker was really fucked up from the locker event but survived and never tattle tell anyone ever again.

My father is still alive and likes to go fishing every now and then with me when he gets the chance now and my father has the most caring and honest hard working soul he ever has and also he didn't attempt murder the guy since the guy lived.

Come on the military back then used to do things like that and they even do things today too hell i remember my dad told me the guys got one fella inside the outhouse and locked the door and just threw rocks at the outhouse until someone toppled the outhouse over.

Funny shit.

these are all personal anecdotal stories, and history classes skip right over vietnam only giving the war of 1812 and the korean war less time.

This guy:

>>33708138

He was a vet in a nursing home I worked at and he definitely did not give a glowing portrayal of the American serviceman.

His story was that he volunteered for WWII just as soon as he was legally able to. Even had his parents sign for him. And just as he was getting to boot, Germany surrenders. And he shits himself quietly every day because while he was scared of the Nazis, he was fucking terrified of the Nips. So he gets out of boot and is crammed into a ship and was actually stationed with a unit on some shit-tier island with crabs the size of basketballs. And he's just shitting himself every day because all anybody talks about is how invading Japan is going to make Iwo Jima look like a trip to the ice cream shop. And right before he's about to seriously consider shooting his own foot off, Japan surrenders. So he's overjoyed because now he gets to go home alive. But the Army straight Billy Mays his ads and sends him to occupy Japan anyway. And he's been told that all Japanese are just itching to fuck up roundeyes.

Imagine this kid's surprise when he gets dropped into a Japan full of single women who will let him rawdog them ragged for a pack of smokes or a little scrip.

Dude was in Heaven. Sure, the Brass tried to squash it... especially after VD hit levels that smallpox could only jerk off over. But this was 1945-46. The worst shit on Earth could be cured with a shot. So here is this 17 or 18 year old kid, thinking for months that he is going to die and in stead, he is dropped dick-first into Yellow Pussy Paradise. He said the worst part of his service, other than thinking he was going to die, was going home and not being able to just roll up to some random chick and defile every hole god drilled into her perfect little body for a scant handful of bills.

You will never, lads. You will never.

Nah, that was pretty much all of them apparently.

Now, you wanna hear about a legend? Let me introduce you to Uncle Ed.

> be working for a backwoods EMS provider in the mid 90s, one of the guys had an uncle who through obvious Eldritch fuckery has been working for the local PD for the last 25 years
> it's weird because every new chief usually purges every officer he can't personally vouch for and Ed has somehow just kept hanging in there due either to insanely good luck or some seriously Machiavellian shit
> anyway, Uncle Ed likes hanging arou d our station and we like having him there and he sometimes regales us with stories of his travels
> Ed was inna Korea right after the war and served as a courier for the Army
> he drove the length and breadth of Worst Korea in a jeep, hand-delivering various parcels, never staying in one place more than a night
> after a year of this, he essentially knew every whorehouse, bar and dive in the entire country
> so one day he delivers a load of scrip to a remote base, scrip being the paper money the government gave soldiers to interact with the local economies so nobody could stockpile US currency
> the stuff looks just like Monopoly money
> so on his next few rounds, Ed raids every Monopoly board he can find, then gets the money and a couple of his courier buddies together and go to a little village way out in the boonies
> they drink and eat and whore for two days, paying for everything with monopoly money
> they consume every resource in this little village and then leave, departing on their normal routes
> then the villagers report to the nearest base to exchange their scrip and find out that their entire village economy has been thoroughly fucked by three guys and about 28 monopoly boards worth of fake fake money
> and because if the transient nature of their duties, Ed and his buddies are never even considered as suspects

The whole idea of attempted murder is that they could have died but didn't. Ergo, that was attempted murder.

North Korea's ideals are forcibly reuniting Korea and becoming a completely independent state, even if that means strawmanning whoever they don't like to scare the population into avoiding anything foreign.

At this point they're more concerned about being invaded than doing the invading, though.

Have you met ever someone who accidentally tried to upload the complete seasons of the sopranos to the hotels PC and caused a crash followed by a blackout? Or someone who farted after eating horrible fried food they make for westerners and caused the tour guide to gag? You don't know shit homey.
