It would be cool if someone could clone the QBZ domestically. It wouldn't be too hard because I don't think Norinco could sue an American company in America and the gas system is probably yet another AR-18 clone internally, but the R&D costs and the fact that it's a filthy pinko rifle would make investors cry.
I know that 12-guage QBZ's ("Puma") are available in the US, so maybe one could modify the internals to fire 5.56?

I've also heard that northern units are being re-equipped with an unbullpuped version of the QBZ but this may be out of date or inaccurate.
