Do you think it's ok for a 16 year old to buy knives and have interest in them? he wants to buy a knife like "Cold Steel Recon 1"
>>
Of course, knives are a valuable tool and also look cool so it's perfectly normal to want one. Most kids get their first knife when they're 9 or 10, and if you trust your kid with access to your kitchen, there's no reason he shouldn't be able to buy a knife.
>>

t. 16 year old trying to come up with arguments for why he should be allowed to buy a knife
>>
nah, buy him an AR platform and send him to school
>>
no way, he'll stab his eye out
>>
Forgot to add, it is actually my wife's son.
>>
>>33697261
>no way, he'll stab his eye out

Had a genuine chuckle. Thanks anon.
>>
I think he needs a taser instead
>>
>>33696974

He will be able to legally buy firearms in less than two years. I think he can responsibly handle a folding knife.
>>
I can't come up with a single reason why a teenager might need a black assault knife. You should sit him down and have a talk about his hidden violent tendensies.
>>
>>33696974
i have the mini recon spearpoint not the new one but the old aus8. i think it's not bad the lock is very strong and the knife is still very light because of the handle. it's not a good choice for edc for several reasons most important is the lock and the handle. think of it more like a very sturdy backup for a fix blade. the handle will abuse any cloth tho shits be it carried in pocket or with the clip it's like a fucking rasp. very hard to close one handed and not safe to do it.

for these reasons for an edc i would recommend a knife that has a less brutal lock but can be opened and closed with one hand easily and has a less abrasive handle.

when i was 16 i owned knives a long time ago btw. i think i got my first bowie at 10. i had a couple of pocket knives and a switchblade. kid stuff.

>>33696974
Holy shit lol I started by proxy buying guns by 12

Are there really parents that don't educate and trust their children with weapons at a young age?

At 16 you're a grown ass man.
>>
>>33697337
>At 16 you're a grown ass man.
only if your parents did their job right, otherwise, you can still be a baby that soils itself at 26 and beyond.
>>
This has to be a troll thread. Not trusting a teenager with knives when most kids get their first one in elementary school, and "cold steel."
>>
>>33697363
well truth be told the teachers will freak out more from that than a swiss army knife or an opinel.

when a teen suddenly want's to buy a knife best suited to stab people to death with it usually means he is getting bullied.
>>
>>33696974
Don't be a terrible father, buy him a Sabenza
>>
>>33696974
That's worrying OP
He could be planning an attack, why else would be want such a killer blade?
>>
>>33696974
buy him a gun instead, if you buy him a knife he might stab someone
>>
>>33696974

Call him an edgy faggot and tell him "No son, you will cut yourself on that edge".

Then shit in your hands and throw it at him.

Assuming you're telling the truth, what kind of parenting or lack thereof did you do where you're unsure if you can trust your 16 year old son to be safe with a knife?

Whew
>>

This
We can't have our children using such a tool of warfare.

I gave my son a Victorinox when he was five...

ITT: People who have never been to a blue state and who don't understand how people there think. Yes, there are many places in this country where if a 16-year-old boy says that he wants a folding pocket knife, the "normie" thing to do is to call the police to give him an intervention and then make an appointment with a psychiatrist to get him pumped full of drugs that will medicate away these aggressive tendencies before he takes the obvious and totally not slippery-slope-fallacy step of shooting up his school with one of those full automatic assault Glocks that President Obama said were easier to buy than it is to buy a book.

lol 16... My father gave me my first knife when I was 7 or so. It is the brown one in Pic related.

I think it is a matter of maturity and use. He gave me that knife at 7, but I was not allowed to use it or carry it with out him around until I was 10, and only when we were camping. When I was 10, I was allowed to carry a Swiss Army knife everywhere it was legal to do so.

By 14 I got into single bladed locking knives, and I was allowed to buy and carry any knife as long as it's legal, and not to be used as a weapon.

So if you trust him, and are willing to go over basic knife safety, sure.

The CS Recon 1 is a good knife, but it's on the larger side, and somewhat expensive for a first knife. Consider the Kershaw Link, Leek, or Skyline, Ontario Rat 1 (or 2), or the Cold Steel Medium Voyager or Mini Recon 1.
>>
He's 16 you tard not a 10 year old
>>
ask the kid why he wants the knife. Knives are useful tools and can be used for many things. If he can articulate a reasonable use-case for it (i.e. has a job where he has to open lots of boxes, or does a lot of outdoor activities), I don't see why not.
>>
>>33697552
I have been collecting knives since I was 11, cunt
>>
>>33696974

I had my first knife at like 9 yrs old. It was a small Swiss army knife. At like 14 my dad gave me his old ka bar.

Given, I already had a .22 that was given to me when I was 10 (Just a single shot 22 rifle) my dad let me keep that and the ammo in my room.
>>
>>33697227

This, you people are dumb for responding.
Kid, just act like all the other people here who had libtard parents and grow up resenting them. Then when. You're 18, do whatever the fuck you want.

Anyways, I bought my first Swiss Army knife when I was 10. Will be doing the same in 6 years for my son.
>>
There is no reaso for a 16 year old to buy a knife unless he's a boy scout and/or he goes hunting. If he wants one because it's cool, and go ahead if he's responsible enough to hurt himself or others, but there's no justification for it beyond being a toy.
>>
>>33696974
My little brother is 13 and I gave him a knife. I'd give him a gun if we weren't in this socialist shithole
If you're 16 and can't be trusted with a fucking pocket knife you should be in the asylum
>>
>>33696974
You should have bought your son a rifle by the age of 16. You're questioning buying him a knife?

Hi, welcome to /k/, what the fuck are you doing here?
>>
>>33696974
My dad gave me my first knife when I was 8. And my first rifle when I was 10.
>>
My parents never bought me a rifle, but they were OK with knives. I got one as a present at like 10, I started buying my own when I was 14.
>>
>>33696974
Listen friend, let me tell you something.

If your kid is interested in these kinds of things, you should support it and get involved. Else they're going to get into it on their own.

Even though my father was a vet, he was a statist, and vehemently against civ gun ownership. At 16; I had my first saturday night special, and I carried my little pocket folder (some brandless little folder with a plastic handle, I've still got it around somewhere, but not on hand) to school every day (just the knife, not the gun).

Unless you're a full blown fascist or something, you're not going to have total control over your kids.

If you're not onboard, they're going to deal with it themselves, and think back to yourself when you were that age.

You might have had some foolish notions about the world, but you were probably no idiot overall.

Shit isn't that difficult to hide if you don't get caught up in your pride and/or lack of preparation. Don't think your kids are less competent or devious than you yourself were at that age.

I don't know too much about "how appropriate" it is now-a-days, I was 'young' in a different era. The shenanigans I got into were pre-columbine, pre-obama, pre-'contemperary'-libcuck compliance through fear and public castigation.

Use this as a meaningful way to connect with your kid. TELL him, that the current rule ARE fucked up. Yeah, look into that knife with him. Don't buy it, but explain to him in detail why there is a superior alternative, and why this kind of subject/interest is taboo in this modern day and age, and let him know that it's all right, but he needs to be careful because society is kind of fucked.

Each and every teenager feels ready to be 'a grown up', treat them as such, and they WILL resonate with it. If you're just citing the law or spitting the party line as the word of god they'll know you're just a cuck in general, or lying to their face because you don't consider them mature enough to comprehend the truth.
>>
Boys should have knives from age 12.

Stop being feminized by faceberg. Hand-eye coordination, industriusness, etc.. many skills can be achieved when a boy learns to create things (via the evil knife!)
>>
>>33696974
When I was 16 I walked around school with a knife stop being a faggot and buy him a knife.
>>
>>33696974
SAVE A LIFE, BIN THAT KNIFE

Seriously though, it's a very useful tool that most of us here have had since we were kids. It is not OK to use this site if you're underage though.
>>
>>33697294
This pretty much.

Better to find out he's one of the crazies when he stabs someone rather then when he shots up his school
>>
>>33698246
Don't avoid the question you fag
>>
>>33696974
Depends. Does he have a gf? Is he frequently picked on?
>>
>>33705954
If no to one and yes to two then you may have reason to be concerned. Ask him why he wants one.

It's not strange for a young man to take interest in weapons. At most other points in human history a man, young or old, would not dare travel about without one. You'd actually have more reason to be concerned if he didn't show interest in manly things, lest he be a faggot such as yourself, OP.

I had my dad's old Buck 112 Ranger for as long as I can remember, probably got it around 11 or 12.

By 16 I had a fucking Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife (needed something to pair with my Webley & Scott Mk.VI revolver).

Just like with guns, booze, cars, women, etc... Expose them at the appropriate age. Don't hold it as verboten, you'll only make them want it more.

Teach them how to be responsible and reward that responsibility.

That said, Cold Steel a shit.
>>
>>33696974
I was whittling wooden animals and making wood shavings for camp fires at age 6. Taught how to use a sharping stone and oil at the same age. Christ people. Educate your kids before they learn bad habits in the use of tools.

At the age of 12 I've already shot .22lr bolt actions, 12 and 20 gauge shotguns in boyscouts. By 14 my dad and uncle showed me how to properly handle and shoot a revolver and then cleaning it myself after use.
