Why is 300WM not the standard issue sniper rifle?
You can go on youtube and find pages upon pages of bubbas making 1 mile shots with it
>>33692015
Have you ever shot one?
It would explain itself if you had. Not a great "general issue" round.
It's simply overkill in every way, including impractical shit.
> carry less ammo, also harder to find in the field
> harder to shoot well
> loud AF
> requires larger rifle/ setup in most cases
> completely unnecessary ballistics,
mile shots are rare even in special forces, most engagements are much closer. they also aren't hunting fucking elk and bear.
tl;dr it's not needed if you took a second to think about what the caliber is good for and what most combat boils down to today.

Yeah don't listen to this guy who thinks his opinion is fact.
Because the cost of adopting a new rifle and cartridge far outweigh the diminishing returns over what the m24 and shit already do.
The military doesn't make decisions based off what's tacticool or operator it's literally budget you dumb fucks
>>33692171
The m24 already comes in .338
>>33692015
>Belted magnum
Pig disgusting.
>>33692556
Do you even know what belting is for?
Because recoil is a real thing and so is 6.5CM. If you need more. Hop to .338LM, or if you're on the military's budget, do a 50.
>>33692137
>harder to find in the field
You do know that real life isn't like ARMA, right? Soldiers don't scavenge for ammo off of dead soldiers, and if they did, 5.56 would be just as hard to find as .300WM
>>33692636
I know it was for preventing excessive headspace on narrow-shouldered rounds like .375H&H, but I can't seem to figure out why it is still commonplace on some modern rounds.
>>33692674
I've heard .338 is better than .50 for military sniper usage
>>33692137
The 308 rounds they feed their m40 and m24 are much longer than normal 308 and wouldn't fit in most rifles not designed for it. I can't remember the specs off hand but I'm thinking if you took a round of an m240 belt and shoved it in an m24 you'd get worse groups than the m240
>>33692015
It is?
>>33695632
I can't imagine that suppressor does much
>>33692171
300 Winmag is already in the supply chain. A191.
>>33692137
>overkill
Fuck outta here with that.
>>33692015
because logistical simplicity
>>33696379
It's still not mass produced to the extend that .308 is
>>33692171
>m24
They still use those?
>>33693746
.50 is a 3 MOA round
>>33693746
.50 BMG isn't even a sniper round. It's ballistics are terrible compared to .308 or even .338.
It's been used for anti-materiel rifles that are often pressed into sniper uses, but it's not a sniper's round.
>The U.S. Army reconfigured their M24 rifles to M2010 Enhanced Sniper Rifles rechambering the original M24 rifles to .300 Winchester Magnum.

There are still several million rounds in inventory. For the Marine Corps anyways. I don't know what the Army has on hand.
>>33696092
at 600 yards plus it doesn't have to do much.
>>33692015
>same bullet as the .308
>overkill for short-med range use
>more flash, harder to suppress
>overtaken by .338LM for long range, also provided better performance on targets using body armour or behind barriers
.308 gas guns are more useful close in, .338 better choice for further out
Didn't Chris Kyle use a rifle in .300 win mag?
