I'll have to take a pic latter, along with some new stuff I got (not knives, but related) later.

But I think the smallest would be my Spyderco Bug, and largest (knife) would be my XL Espada. My largest blade would be my Valiant Armory Longsword.

G-10 one's, like pic related, are like $275. They just updated the steel (AUS8a to CTS-XHP) and gave them a DLC coating, almost doubled the price.

I got the AUS8a one in pic related for like $90 when they were starting to run out of them everwhere.

Cool mechanism, but terribly dull and has been a bitch to sharpen.

>>33691541
Long Sword (top) is a Valiant Armory Rhinelander, pretty much as far from Mall Ninja you can get as far as swords go.

Katana is a Hanwei Raptor, to expensive to be mall ninja, weab maybe

The two bellow are Cold Steel swordchetes, yes they do look mall ninja a bit, but are good machetes

The Schrade Priscilla may look a little LOTR ish, but it's an awesome brush clearing tool

Bellow that is a 1907 Enfield Bayonet, very far from mall ninja

Cold Steel Espada, yes mall ninja looking, but once again, too expensive.

Ontario SP-10, just a knife.

So no, nothing here is really mall ninja, maybe the Chines War Sword Machete.

>>33691613
>>33691628
>tip down only looks like
I could be wrong, but I'm 99% sure that is not a pocket clip... idk maybe because it's flush with the handle. Now some knives do have pocket clips that raise out of the handle when you close the knife, but considering it's under the pivot screw I doubt that.
>A tamper proof screw holding it on. Guess I'll just send it away to get tightened
You don't know that. It could be standard Torx on the other side with a key (non-free spining) pivot.

It took forever to sharpen my okapi, the edge bevel is ridiculously steep, and unfinished near the tip. I used a file to do the rough sharpening, goes fast .

Also to get the lock smoother, put some polish in it and then work it back and forth and then put more polish in it then keep working it. I used brasso. Just make sure you clean it all out when it's smooth enough for your taste.

Nice, I was considering it, but I don't really carry my Ti Milli that much, and I would probably carry this one less.

If you just oil it from time to time, and wipe it off (like on your pants or something) before putting it in your pocket, you will be fine. Frog Lube is pretty good for keeping blades clean. Eventually it will develop a patina, but that's fine.

M4 really is a bitch to sharpen though. Unless you are pretty good at sharpening, you may consider just stropping from time to time, but sending it out when it comes time for a sharpening.

I don't think being banned from Bladeforums is a good judgment of character.. Many people are banned there for saying horrible things, such:
>using proper science and peer-reviewed sources to argue an unpopular opinion
>disagreeing with mods politely
>Not being a part of the hive mind
>Not jumping on the bandwagon

Granted I would like to see how he was being a "huge dick", maybe he was justified, maybe he was just being a dick. Either way, he knows how to make good knives.

I'm still on bladeforums from time to time, but it can be an echo-chamber some times. I think the whole Cliffstamp ordeal highlighted that pretty well.

>>33696128
Yep... I think Nick Shabazz put it best, even though I disagree with a fair amount of what he says, I think in some ways he missed the point.

"This is $259 to buy brand new... and on some levels the price is okay. I kind of get it, XHP is an expensive steel, they got a DLC coating, that adds some to the price too, it's a large chunk of material.

I mean, I'm not saying the price is not worth it given the construction, but that's a lot of money... that's just for shits and giggles.... That's a lot of money for a knife that has no purpose except being a jackass."

If you are just looking for parts, go on to knifemaker, you can buy clips and all of that with ease. There are plenty of sites that sell general knife stuff, I just happened to have used Knifemaker before for washers and stuff.

Problem with the clip though. Most pocket clips use very small screws, with very fine threads. These machine screws are fine for going into metal, but may not work well with wood.

You may consider a band clip, like some flashlights and pens have. Idk how you would find one of the right size.

As for the thumb stud. Drilling a whole through a tempered steel blade is doable, but it's hard, even worse if you don't have a drill press. There are thumb studs that bolt to the back of blades with a set screw.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TS5t4pxRL_w

It's really a question of how much you want to make your self, or how much you want to buy.
>>
>>33698471

You're gonna drill a hole into the blade rather than just buy a $10 tried and true product? You're gonna fuck up the knife and be out another $15.
>>
>>33698601
What I don't want to do is spend more on this stuff than I did on the knife.

The thumbstud on the video would cost me 16 bucks including shipping, and shipping from knifemaker is 40-50 bucks for me, so that's not an option.

>>33698888
Maybe, but I can guarantee you I'm not spending 16 bucks on that shit.

Avoid Deepeeka, Windlass can be OK but look up reviews for specific products before you buy them. Universal Swords makes a lot of Cold Steel's swords and the general consensus is that they're meh.

Hanwei, Lutel, Del Tin, Darksword, and Albion are all reputable makers, there are probably more that I'm forgetting.

You could also get something more experimental. Condor makes good machetes and a decent copy of the (now discontinued) Hanwei tactical wakizashi, but they're relatively new to swords.

Smallest is a Kershaw Cinder, nice size for keyring and very cheap. I had one of those tiny ceramic folding razors but lost it when drunk innawoods.

The apex polish is pretty good, but there is some easily noticeable scratches where the bevel meets the grind near the tip, because of how wide the bevel got.

Nice, BK-9 is a great knife. I'm going to pick one up this summer.

>>33706165
I really like it, but keep in mind, it's a machete not a sword. Very blade heavy, but not to a point where it's not very useful for brush clearing. The factory edge may need a lot of work though, it took me 15 or so minutes to thin it out on a belt sander.

If you are looking for more of a sword, consider the condor cutlass
>>
>>33707707
>Darksword is a little sketchy honestly. They are beautiful looking, but I've heard a lot of iffy stuff about the functionality.

I've heard some of the same but most of what I've seen is positive so I figure they're probably decent, or maybe somewhat like Windlass where certain products are great and certain products are trash.

>>
>>33708670

>>
>>33705677
if the knife has a decent cross section you realistically shouldn't have a problem with penetration or the tip breaking. if you need a plain edge you just happen to be shit out of luck since the tanto tip takes up 1/4 of the blade and the serrations about half so you need to slice through anything you have about 1/4 of the cutting edge to work with.

You can get the 940-2 half serrated for a little more and you're definitely not breaking the tip on that or like the other anon said, a triage auto.

If you've gotten by without much of a plain edge or belly to work with then I guess you're the rare case the tanto serrated combo is preferable.

I've just always been a serrations guy.

Admittedly, though, my experiences with failure of other styles of blades have been shit knives. I think I ordered that one more out of past experience vs what that particular knife can actually do, which could be a mistake.

Regardless, it's not breaking the bank, and I to think I'll get plenty of use out of it to be satisfied. If I find that my needs/wants change, my next purchase will reflect that.

>>
>>33707707
If you do pick up a BK-anything, be aware that the stock sheath and stock handles are both functionally shitty, in that they work fine, completely tolerable, but can be upgraded.

The stock sheath is just run-of-the-mill black trying-to-be-military fabric with plastic inserts, with a floppy molle thing on the back. It's nice in that it has a little velcro pouch on the front, but that's about it.

The stock handles are just black plastic. Micarta is better. The nuts holding it together also need locktite, it's not the best stuff.

The blade itself is fucking amazing.

EMT basic certification is remarkably easy. It's a one semester class most places. A lot of the time the cost of all the testing is rolled into the tuition, with the exception of the big computer based test that you pay out of pocket for your state or national certification.

Honestly, if you don't plan on pursuing paramedic licensure, and you're working on another degree, it's probably a waste of your time. Basic EMT pay isn't shit.

It'd be easier to help you if you could drop the memes for a minute and tell us where exactly you live. If your main concern is concealment then boot might be a good option but when carrying like that you sacrifice the ability to get to the knife quickly or discretely. I kept a folding knife clipped to my boot in high school but moved it to my pocket ASAP once I was on the bus.

Also, you're probably going to get inundated with Anons saying something along the lines of "nobody wins a knife fight," but that's a total load. However, if you get into a knife fight you should absolutely expect to get cut. If possible your first defense should be pepper spray, do not pull out a knife unless you feel that you need it and are ready to use it.

Then I guess concealment really is your biggest concern, while trying to get a good general sense of kangaroo law I found a shitload of stories of people getting fines & having their Leathermans confiscated and destroyed. Can you fags seriously not carry anything with a blade without a "reasonable excuse"? Because that's horsecrap, especially since the law includes "proof of which lies on the person," which I can only see as "guilty until proven innocent."

Something like what you posted would work with a jacket, I don't know how feasible that is in Australia. People do make high quality kydex rigs like that so if that's what you want to go with then look at what models various makers can accommodate and go with one of those. If you get caught with such a rig I doubt that you'll be able to argue that it was for work though.

I think that the most practical choice would be a nice folder with a deep carry pocket clip but I guess if someone sees the pocket clip you might be out of luck, I've heard a lot of stories about NYC involving cops getting a stick up their ass because of a visible pocket clip. If you could think up a good job you could carry something like pic related and hide in plain sight.
>>
I've got 200,500,800 diamond stones and a single relatively high (don't know #) synthetic with my knockoff apex pro (A ruixin pro 3). After I 3d printed the mods (end-stops, extensions so you can use the whole stone, stability and removing the angular play from the pivot) it's working pretty well, though the clamp is pretty much totally useless because of how annoying it is to open. I can finally reset the flat bevel instead of the increasingly convex bevel I get freehanding

Question is compared to regular synthetic stones of which I have a 1k/4k what do the diamond ones I have compare in terms of grit? I've heard JP stones have much higher numbers for the same result, for example. Also what kind of maintenance and lifetime can I expect from the diamond stones?

Also I'd like to polish the bevel for aesthetics after the stones before I put the final edge with a metal polish loaded denim strop. Good options for achieving that?

Nice quads. Depends on who you'require asking, really. Most people agree that Lynn Johnson or whatever his name is a cunt because of his litigation misadventures. If you don't know, basically, cold steel managed to get a trademark for the term San Mai, when it wasn't theirs to begin with. San Mai is an incredibly old Japanese term, it basically describes laminated steel, where there is a core of a hard steel sandwiched between soft steel which increases strength, performance and sometimes corrosion resistance depending on the steels used. Then they use this trademark to sue and bully smaller companies that use the term properly for money, credit or to just stop using it. This is obviously a complete dick move. But, as far as their knives go, it's a bit of a mixed bag as well. Some of their knives are amazing in my opinion, such as the recon 1, American lawman, code 4, voyager, 4max, hold out, trail master, SRK and recon scout. But then you have the complete meme knives like the espada xl which is good for nothing but making videos of cutting shit on YouTube. It's laughable how unpractical it is but I bet it could fuck someone up.

TL;DR- they're a bunch of cunts on the legal side of things, some of their knives are great, some of their knives are good and some are terrible and some are just plain wrong

It's a slipjoint so it'll never fully lock, but it's the toughest slipjoint I've seen, which is easily safer than many cheap locking knives, and as the knife gets banged up, the handle tightens around the blade increasing the friction, making it even safer. In case of emergency, you can hammer the handle and make it a fixed blade knife.

I passed countless border controls everywhere on the planet and it's never been a problem, because it's just the right size, and it's technically non locking so no one bothers you for it. It passed countless frisks too, because the knife is incredibly thin and light making it very easy to conceal in your ass crack, slip in your shoe, or tie to a braid of hair. The handle isn't the comfiest as a result, but it does the job. The blade is twice as thick as an Opinel and is so easy to sharpen you can do it on concrete.

So they're very different overall. Opinels are great knives, but the kind I keep in a bag or in the car. A Douk Douk is what I keep in my pocket.
>>
>>33726347
Looks neat, I'm sold.

Also the wooden handle on the Opinel mixed with moisture is a pain in the ass.

>easily safer than many cheap locking knives

I get what you mean. Having no lock is better than getting a false sense of safety from a cheap lock, already learned that with a, fortunately, not so serious cut.

They're all mods except the one on the right which is original. But they're easily modded with a dremel. There's also a variant called "Ecureuil", with a Victorinox/Swiss-style blade, and the "Vendedouk", which is a disgrace and shouldn't exist.

>>33726636
I seem to remember the current owner of the factory, son of its creator, saying it had more middle-oriental origins, rather than east asian. I don't remember French machetes to have such a shape either.

>>33726404
>so fucking retarded
Well talking about colonies, the Douk Douk played a huge role in the Algerian independence war. Algerians had few weapons, but plenty Douk Douks, so they hammered the handles and then used them as weapons to amputate and assassinate the French. They've been used as bayonets on rifles too. Same story in Indochina, later Vietnam.

Then French colonial armies confiscated all Douk Douks from stores and began to use them themselves. It eventually came back home after the many colonial conflicts where they became popular, as the Douk Douk was only sold in colonies up until that point and nowhere in mainland France, and later found its way in plenty other French conflicts: Korea, Suez, Tchad, Gulf, Djibouti, Kosovo... Even today you can get shaved by fifty year old Douk Douks at barbers in Morocco.

So yes, hammering it definitely works.

Im looking for the name of a knife (non folding) that was posted a few months back.

There was a video of a German guy innawoods testing its durability and reviewing it. It was able to hold his weight when he stood on it and cut through a tree branch of 3 in radius. The knife was roughly $200 and had a diamond sharpener.

Because apparently cutting implements need to do this... In reality any .18" (or thicker) full tang fixed blade with a half decent temper should support a human in some ways.

>cut through a tree branch of 3 in radius
In what way? You can cut a 12" tree down with a Swiss Army Knife if you have the time. And you can cut through a 3" branch with any knife if you have enough force behind it.

>had a diamond sharpener.
Oh cool, like a Bear Grylls. Sounds really gimmicky. Typically having an included sharpener is a red flag for "Tacticool" or "ultimate surviuuur" crap. Chances are, if its $200, the stone is something he added to it.

What would be your recommendations for /thin/ knives? I like my knives not to make a huge bulge in my pockets, even better when they can fit in a wallet and go unnoticed.

I have plenty:

I have two of the cold steel ones, they come with a MUCH better fit and finish, and the lock can be weakened to allow easier one hand operation while still maintaining functionality, the okapi lock doesn't work that great if you loosen it at all. The Krupp steel is meh, but for like six dollars, it's a great knife to toss in a tackle box or play around with.
