Hi /k/, this is my first time posting here.

Leaf here, wondering what my first firearm should be. I'm waiting to receive my non-restricted and restricted licenses.
I'm considering a GSG STG-44 (.22), a Henry lever-action (.45-70govt) and Norinco m14 (.308).

What do you recommend for me? I have some experience firing bolt-action, pump-action, a .22 and a semi-auto handgun.
>>
>>33690395
Getting any kind of replica .22 is autistic as fuck. Get a dirt cheap semi auto .22 or an sks. Your other two gun options aren't bad, but make sure you're aware and comfortable with the cost of ammo
>>
>>33690514
I just think it looks neat + I like the larger mag. I'd love to get the lever-action but it seems a bit steep for my first firearm. Ammo would be expensive, which is another reason I'm considering rimfire.

What's a decent SKS model I can get in Canada?
>>
>>33690395

get a marlin you fucking pleb.

in stainless.

and I swear to god if you put optics on it I will snipe you from my side of the border.
>>
>>33690566
What makes a Marlin better than a Henry? And I'm not even considering getting optics for any of the guns I've mentioned. Going to practice with iron/aperture
>>
>>33690561

Pretty much any SKS will be fine. Russians are decently priced. Cabelas has arsenal refurbs for $20 off right now:
http://www.cabelas.ca/promo_items?promoid=skssgod1&pl=cp&cm=17-sgod1-sksrifle

$50 off ammo. Your local Canadian Tire may have a deal, too.
>>
>>33690395
>.45-70

getting awfully tired of this meme
>>
>>33690598
Please explain, as I'm just getting into shooting. I really like the feeling of the lever-action. I would be happy to have it one chambered differently.
>>
>>33690598
This is the gun my brother recommended that I get. I've read that they jam ~200 rounds. Can anyone speak on that?
>>
Oops.

>>33690630 is in reply to >>33690591
>>
>>33690617
.30-30 is nice for lever actions, and there's a wide variety that use it. You can get a nice used one for cheap.

Pistol calibers are a lot of fun, but they tend to be a bit more expensive. If a Henry is what you want, they come in .38/.357 which is cheaper to shoot than .45-70 and as easy to reload.

>>33690630
For a while Remlin wasn't making the cartridge lifters properly. Hopefully that was fixed.
>>
>>33690642
As long as you clean your SKS, it should be fine. If they failed that quickly they would never have been accepted for military service in the USSR.
>>
None of those.
Get a semiauto .22
>>
Henry is overpriced as fuck. My first gun was a mossberg 30-30 levergat for $500 and I still enjoy it
>>
>>33690660
>>33690679
Fair enough.

Are there any handgunners here? Why are revolvers so expensive?
>>
>>33690617
Unless you are hunting big game in close brush, .45-70 is overkill bordering on impractical. Despite what you may hear, too much gun is a bad thing because the harder kick and increased cost of ammunition tend to discourage you from actually practicing your shooting skills.

A pistol caliber levergun would be excellent for someone relatively new to shooting (and a shitload of fun), or a .30-30 (or similar) levergun would be a good all-arounder if you plan on doing much hunting.
>>
>>33690715
Revolvers are expensive because they have lots of little bits in them and require more labour to assemble.
>>
>>33690395
>a Henry lever-action (.45-70govt)
>>33690395
>first firearm

I would not go that route. .30-30 Winchester maybe.
>>
>>33690395
OP, If you want a semi auto i'd get an SKS like anons recommend, if you want a levergun Mossberg makes one in 30-30 that holds like 9 rounds, compared to 5 in the SKS
>>
>>33690715
Because fudds.
>>
>>33690740
>>33690768
Found this .22 on Cabela's for ~$400 CAD.
Probably more sensible than the first Henry I posted.

>>33690809
Going to look into that right now
>>
>>33690395
ill sell you my SKS, if you live in the southeast.
>>
i fucking hate canadians so much
>>
Fellow canuck here. Just a reminder buying anything but an SKS for your first gun will result in a immediate confiscation of your citizenship.
>>
>>33690832
Very interesting. Feel free to leave. Everyone else has been helpful while you've just shit up the thread.
>>
>>33690819
found it

My chingchong M14 says fuck you
>>
>>33690835
Mine was an 870
Honestly I think a 12GA isn't a bad choice either. You can get lots of dirt-cheap birdshot, and it doesn't recoil so much that it will put off new shooters.
>>
>>33690835
What makes you say that? What province are you in?

your a dummy

Thanks anon. Definitely considering that or the .22 LR in pic
>>
>>33690893
I think either one would be a great choice
>>
>>33690856
I'm a saskie.

>>33690879
>taking the sks meme this seriously

Marlin levers have loading gates. Loading a Henri is a PITA.
>>
>>33690911
>loading gates

Here we fuck go again.

(not that he's wrong)
>>
>>33690909
Name a better semi auto that

>Has cheap ammo crates
>is Reliable
> Is 200-250$
>Available at Canadian Tire

There really is no better option, plus if you are into vintage guns at all its too cool not to have.
>>
>>33690945
I know.. i was the one who suggested it in the first place.
>>
>>33690591
Damn that's cheaper than a lot of the mosins I see here in Oregon.
>>
http://www.bullseyelondon.com/rossi-model-92-carbine-large-loop-lever-action-rifle-357-magnum-16-barrel-8-1-56006.html

This is another option. They also have one in .44 Magnum, if that's more interesting for you.
>>
>>33690988
Then the joke flew over my head, im sorry
>>
>>33690992
Looks pretty sweet, but would a .357 / .44 magnum be overkill for an indoor range?
>>
>>33691033
It would have to be a really shitty indoor range not to allow .357 or .44 magnum.
>>
>>33690395

If you're a leaf then you should buy a cheapo SKS.

They cost more here in Murrica then they do up there in syrup land, so I don't own one but at leaf prices they're a hell of a bargain.
