I own a canik. It's fine. But to a) not buy turkroach and b) get a better firearm you should just spring for a m&p 9 or a Glock brand Glock.

Don't believe them, they are great pistols. They are a little big for concealed carry but if you want a full size firearm by all means get one. I have my TP9 V2 on my hip right now and haven't ever had a single problem with it through at least 1500 rounds. They can be had now for less then half the price of a Glock and I prefer mine to my Glock 17 which I have owned since the late 80s.

As your first pistol? I wouldn't. Take /k/'s standard advice and get a Glock 19. The Canik has little aftermarket support and multiple long-term reliability tests have shown it to be less than optimal.

Glock made the decision to set their price based on how the market would perceive it. They are stupid cheap to make but Glock didn't want to be perceived as a shit-tier mfg like taurus or rossi.

Canik has to break into the market and get some market share to be viable so they don't mark up their guns as much. They are trading some profit margin to get a foothold in a very crowded marketplace.

Gun is good, if it doesn't rustle your political jimmies then buy it and enjoy. Fuck the haters.

They were harder to beat for the price point back when the rebate was running, but these days, they are about $350 or so. Still pretty cheap and with a good freebie bag, but it may not hit all the marks you want. I quite enjoy mine and have put well over 4k or so through her without an issue. That being said, since I bought her I've changed my armory a lot and added better pistols and default to my 92fs now.
