GRIMESY

A while back I made a thread concerning that, some degenerate on here kept going on about "he's still a hero, he 'earned his stars'" or someshit, pretty much out of nowhere

even for 4chins that was an absurd thing to read

Does anybody else not like this movie very much?
I understand it's /k/-core, but as an actual movie I feel like it's not that great.
>>
>>33683778
That is completely fucked.

Former 0311, we had a meth head who said he burried cats in the dirt and ran their heads over with a lawnmower. But I'm a father and I'd fucking murder anyone who touched a child like that.

Fucking filth.

It's literally the perfect movie.
>>
>>33684669
It's a pretty goddamn good movie desu. Definitely served as propaganda for a generation of post 9/11 Americans to serve in Iraq/A stan.
>>
>>33684669
Explain how it isn't great anon. What makes it not great?
>>
>>33685150

>No mention of team 6 snipers

It couldve been perfect.

You worked at a coffee company with the guy who is best known for making coffee through desert storm? (or am I mixing up my rangers)

>>
>>33685202
There was a fig leaf line that was like "SEALs will provide sniper over watch from the rooftops" but that was about it.
>>
>>33685218

Damn i dont remember that at all.
>>
>>33685177
Somalis aren't actually Somali at all. They're all subsaharan africans. Almost all of the action was close ups and didn't give a sense of engagement distance and didn't look like real combat at all. All of the dialogue about the moral ambiguity of the US's mission in Somalia was taken out of the movie at the behest of the pentagon's objection to them. Technically it's a great action/war movie, but I felt like it could have been a classic with a bit more downbeat and less hollywoody action and intelligent commentary on the US's interventionist politics.
>>
>>33685351
>hey let's turn a war movie into a politics movie

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YOU ARE THE FAGGOT RUNING WAR MOVIES!

OUT! OUT! OUT!
>>
>>33685218
Also they portrayed everyone but Durant being dead at the crash site. That's not accurate at all. A few of the flight crew members were alive and assisted the Delta snipers in their defense and died defending that chopper.
>>
>>33685351
Real combat at real engagement distances is boring as fuck to watch. I don't want to watch 3 hours of helmet cam footage.
>>
>>33685233
I've seen the movie like 10 times because I had it on DVD when I was a kid so that's the only reason I recall at all. Its during the little bird touch downs or something, but it was a brief mention with no screen time so it's not exactly memorable.
>>
>>33685351
>Somalis aren't actually Somali at all. They're all subsaharan africans.
But most American's either deployed or in this case the audience won't care either way hence the slang "skinnies"
> Almost all of the action was close ups and didn't give a sense of engagement distance
Have you read the book? If they were to make it that technical you'd see a lot more gore. It's a good mix of "realism" and hollywood
> All of the dialogue about the moral ambiguity of the US's mission in Somalia was taken out of the movie at the behest of the pentagon's objection to them.
I don't think the exclusion of politics is that big of a deal. For one, it's a movie about the soldiers who fought in that conflict. Two, politics wouldn't be addressed adequately, especially since the US wasn't the only foreign in Somalia, or Africa in the 90s.
>>
>>33685402
I don't think you know much about film making. You don't portray things like that in the typical action movie way, but have you ever seen the movie The Nest? In that the engagements are potrayed in realistic distances and without showing details of those engaging, it creates a claustrophobic sense in the audience, death won't be seen and it won't be obvious where it's coming from. The Thin Red Line did a good job of that. It's war as a horror movie vs war as a action movie.
>>
>>33685449
>Two, politics wouldn't be addressed adequately, especially since the US wasn't the only foreign in Somalia, or Africa in the 90s.
that was another historical innaccuracy of the movie
>Have you read the book? If they were to make it that technical you'd see a lot more gore. It's a good mix of "realism" and hollywood
that whole point went over your head totally, I'm talking about the way the movie was shot and edited, just close ups of people shooting at each other with no depiction of the actual distances. It looked like they were all 50 feet away from each other
>But most American's either deployed or in this case the audience won't care
Make them care, that should be the objective of the filmmaker, especially to lessen things being black and white between the different groups
>>
>>33684733
>cats
I was having a good day till I read that.

Yo, thats brutal
>>
Delta especially, walking around condition one on fire was and is a huge no go. That's something that would legit get you counseled for, physically hazed and contribute to your removal from the unit. This line, while dramatic and inspiring to a generation of terminal lance coconuts, is unrealistic and never happened. There's nothing high speed about accidental and negligent discharges, and nothing honorable about being killed by a fellow serviceman who bumps his trigger and ventilates your body.
>>
>>33683791
I don't know how long you've been here, but thats far from absurd on this degenerate fucking website. I still wonder why I keep coming back
>>
>>33684669
Everything is fucking gorgeous. Not just because its /k/ essential, but because the soundtrack can fit into any situation, the cinematography shows the mental state and overall attitude in Somalia then, the way it highlights who were involved and why it was such a shitshow.
>>
>>33685454
>The nest
2002? I'll check it out. I have a hardon for movies that emphasize the physiological horror of combat over the fun actiony shooty shooty.
>>
>>33685950
I'm convinced that it was actually in condition 3 hammer down, so the safety couldn't be activated. Might have just been a good opportunity to be a cowboy fuck and look like the hottest shit rather than tell the truth.

If you look around the internet all of the former Delta personalities are extremely anal about manipulating the safety.
>>
>>33686538
>look like the hottest shit
he looked like a giant tool
>>
>>33685165
Except it had literally nothing to do with either of those and was in production pre-9/11.
>>
>>33685472
i think youre just shit at understanding film,
they close up shots of the skinnies being hit add to the audience tension because you lack the feeling of being in danger without it. dont fucking critique films you can't even understand the first thing about you fucking mongoloid. its not even an amazing film but youre just autistic pushing for it to be something it isnt. go fuck your hat
>>
>>33685454
I loved the thin red line as a war movie but it got up its own ass about being trippy. I get why and all, but it made watching it difficult
>>
>>33686828
Not to normies watching the movie, remember that "safeties off, fingers on the triggers" is commonly used in tv and books as SF lingo.
