Larger bullet diameter is directly related to lethality. Temporary wound cavity caused by high speed rounds has been proven to be a meme due to the elasticity of the human body. However larger bullets are more likely to nick vital areas when the shooter lacks skill. In the end all that matters is shot placement but even trained shooters wont have better than 30% accuracy under stress 10% for untrained shooters. If you want to ensure a fatal hit you have a better chance with a slow fat round than a fast small one. That's what my combat shooting coarse told me at least and they had the charts and doctor statements to prove it.
