I've never understood the hype around the original aside from the historical importance of it. I don't like the looks or the round and it wasn't like it was an amazingly good rifle either. I know wheraboos salivate over them.
I wouldn't bother buying a modern 'repo'. If I wanted an old fashioned 'salt rifle I'd just spend the money on a nice AK instead, or a VZ58 or something like that.
Looks like shit,is shit, from a. shit company

90% of the STG44 DoWantFactor revolves around having an orginal. This almost looks like a softair gun.

Have you seen the InRange videos on why it take so long to recreate a gun without any original documentation or idea of the manufacturing process used? Or are you that much of an impatient bitch?
>>33674011
I was unaware that any real world models existed.
I don't see the hype around StGs period.
The problem is that in the modern world, they're just assault rifles that aren't particularly accurate or sturdy, (which is why HMG had to reengineer so much) it just isn't that exciting or unique of a gun.
I still think a revisit of the FG-42 would be sick. Make a more modern, cheaper version of that. Also as one anon imagined in a gun ideas thread, a Mini-42 in 5.56 would be cool as fuck

Ironically airsoft guns and the GSG STG in .22lr look closer to the real things than the HMG STG. I understand the reasons with having to comply with the standards the ATF sets and how the ATF interprets the laws on the books, but that doesn't make it look good, regardless of the excuse. If they couldn't have made it look close enough to the real thing, and it discourages enough buyers, they shouldn't have made it at all. Although I guess it's one more gun on the market for those who can ignore the glaring aesthetic issues and major differences functionally as well.
Unfaithful reproduction.
If they were going to bother stamping an obsolete gun in a dead caliber. Then they should have been perfectly faithful.
>>33674011
If it's so fucking hard, which I don't doubt, then maybe the people doing it should have held back on the deadlines they were obviously arbitrarily setting for themselves. They're doing this because they know it generates hype, but they're ironically fucking over the people actually buying their product They also know that the majority of their customers won't cancel their orders over each little deadline they miss, so they let them add up, little by little, until they get to the point where they've generated the maximum amount of free advertisement from the gun industry as they can. Moral of the story, say it's going to happen, don't give a date, don't take preorders, and if you're going to say something, prove it with something physical, not just empty words. Though it still is the stupid little fucking idiot's faults for preordering, ever.

Do you know exactly when Schmeisser went to Russia and when Kalashnikov finished versions of his prototype models? There isn't a source in existence that will tell you Hugo Schmeisser was anywhere near Kalashnikov at the time Kalashnikov came up with his own prototypes. In fact, Schmeisser only got to Izhevsk on October 24, 1946 while Kalashnikov was over 1000 kilometers away in Kovrov and had his AK-46 design approved for prototype manufacture in November. Even though the AK-46 failed trials, troop feedback during the trials was enough input to come to the logical conclusion of what the AK type 1 came to be, which was recommended for production in November 1947 and went through the final trials starting in December 1947. Basically, Schmeisser would have had about half a year if the Soviets are lying about the fact that he was confined to Izhevsk. Even then, Schmeisser would have only been able to tell Kalashnikov what the troops and trials already had told him: to move firing controls to the right side of the receiver and to simplify the gun. Schmeisser had traditionally put controls on the left side of the receiver, so it's not very likely he told Kalashnikov to do that nor would he have thought the AK-46 any more complicated than his STG-44.
What IS an entirely more possible statement is that Schmeisser likely helped implement quality control measures from his background in stamped-steel weaponry during the lead up to the AKM. However, the Russians decided it was better to switch to a milled receiver, so even Schmeisser couldn't, didn't, or wasn't helping with a solution for that. By the time the order for what would be the AKM trials came about in 1955, Schmeisser had left Russia 3 years before in 1952, so it's unlikely Schmeisser had any significant contribution (if at all) with the AK.
>>33677745
Kill whoever did this
It's been said to death already but there's no point in bitching about "It's not a faithful reproduction." The originals are not good guns. They are half designed rifles, the parts don't interchange, the springs sucked, headspacing process is ass, and they aren't that sturdy or simple. There are multiple "original" mag iterations.
Making an exact replica Stg44 is a losing venture. There is no market for it at the price it would take to create a gun that by it's nature was incomplete. The price they command now is entirely historical and NFA driven, a gun with the Stg44's quality control would be IO tier.

The museum models are almost EXCLUSIVELY DEACTIVATED because last I checked, most museums don't fucking have a Class III license, you dipshit.
That still doesn't account for shit like tolerances, metallurgy, spring weights, making an actual legal rifle that won't end with the ATF making a surprise visit, fucking tooling, developing the manufacturing, and fucking every god damn thing else that goes into mass producing something, even in small quantities.

Not the same guy, but you are not going to be able to get an StG 44 that is identical part for part that you can shoot everyday. The original had to be designed with the available resources to make them in mind, which were limited. This rifle is objectively better.
This is as close as you're going to get without taking out a loan from the bank. Get the fuck over it.

>Not the same guy, but you are not going to be able to get an StG 44 that is identical part for part that you can shoot everyday. The original had to be designed with the available resources to make them in mind, which were limited.
NAH thats not an argument, you are making it sound like we are still in this situation of "limited resources" also i wouldn't even mind if they had to change the internals slightly to improve its reliability or functionality but at the very least make it look the same.
i wouldn't mind paying $3000-$4000 on an extremely faithful repro, i paid $2800 for a SCAR(not a report i know) and almost $3500 for a fulton M14 and you know what THEY WORK, THEIR NICE, sometimes its worth paying more, its like you are trying to tell me a $1000 dollar prostitute is waste of money because the $20 prostitute will make you cum just the same.
also how much does HMG pay you to defend their mistakes, i wish we had IDs here on /k/ because id be willing to bet its only like 3-4 of you faggots, doing this you are literally the HMGIDF to you they can do no wrong, its fucking comical to me.

That not the point of fucking idiot. You want the ORIGINAL, right? The original is shittier than the one HMG has designed. Fact. The HMG is a better daily shooter than the original. Fact. The HMG will have a bigger after market. Fact.
And gun designers don't just slap on those stamping for looks, they usually serve a function/structural purpose. And there may be a perfectly good reason why HMG went that route. If you are going to change the internals, you will most likely see a change in the exterior.
>hurr durr HMG shill

I've shot one of these at the range before. I've honestly been impressed by the range and power. My shoulder hurt from the pure recoil and it actually managed to puncture one of the metal targets. If I aimed hard enough, I bet I could dent a tank's armor with this bad boy. I don't know if this was intentional, but the plastic wood panels fell off after a few shots. They were snap-ins which was kind of neat, but the lack of glue or screws meant that I couldn't put them back in since the recoil had snapped the pins off. It's much better than an AK IMO, which had the wood actually fucking splinter, and could barely dent the magnesium target I was shooting at.
