OTM is fine, barring shooting at people through car windshields.

Based off a Martin Fackler thread on Arfcom, I believe.
So are frangible rounds the same as otm?

>So are frangible rounds the same as otm?
no. For home defense your best bet is a box of 77gr OTM Black Hills Match Kings (If you rifle stabilizes them) or Black hills 50gr TSX both are super lethal rounds. Frangible is for shooting steel at close range, nothing else.

Ive always thought that varmit rounds like hollow tip or soft point 223 was best for ar15 home defense?
>>33670451
>"anon, use an open tip with a heavier projectile and 5.56 chamber pressures/velocity"
>"muh .223 lighter projectile and slower moving though?"
check in with yourself bro, use your brain
>>33670451
No bro, They expand a lot but in a human won't consistently penetrate to vitals. Not recommended for self defense but would still fuck the dude up big time.
These explain it very well and break down all the ammo choices

I dont have an ar, so I'm not familiar with bullet weights.
>>33670645
Varmits are usually like 45gr I wouldn't go below 50gr for humans and if you went 50gr get the expensive black hills tsx
What about these? http://www.personaldefenseworld.com/2014/10/hpr-unveils-new-black-ops-line-defensive-ammo/
>>33670645
well its not just bullet weights. the .223 has less of a powder charge - slower moving
>>33670748
Good velocity but seems more like a gimmick then just quality ammo. You don't want frangible ammo. Stick with black hills, the military and SF use their 77gr bullets because they are extremely effective. Black hills has seen plenty of combat as the mk262 designation ammo and you cant go wrong. Its what I keep in my HD rifle.
