So, say you were to live in a country that doesn't allow firearms for the purpose of self dense, and requires you to lock them away and make them inoperable - what's the best home defence option?

Currently I'm thinking of a Riot Shield + Gladius/Baton - when my kids are older we could form a Testudo, any suggestions?

Bruh, I'm not going to be able to effectively clear my house with my No1Mk3, especially given that it's locked up in a separate safe to my ammo.
Plus, people will want answers when a few rounds of .303 British fly through their wall.

I would very much like to not go to gaol.

>>33668107
You have to use "appropriate force" - using your gun means that you had enough time to open your safe, reassemble your gun, and load it - the court will argue that you could have used that time to escape the house.

You also have to prove that they intended you harm - the fact that they had a knife is not enough, they must be brandishing/threatening you with it.

Where I'm hoping Ill be fine with the shield/bludgeon/spear combo is that it's not required to be locked up - and the concept of the shield is mainly defensive.

I have already fought off two armed home invaders, whilst unarmed, I was lucky to survive - it took nearly 2 years to get to court, despite 6 witnesses, physical fingerprint and DNA evidence, police arresting one of them at the scene earlier in the night - they got off with a plea deal, no time served despite one of them literally trying to gut me with a kitchen knife.
To add insult, to injury, one of them tried to sue me for damage to a ligament in his groin, that prevents him from walking correctly to this day.

Interestingly, at they 6 plea hearings, they both claimed that they were never there, meanwhile they were trying to sue me for damages received whilst at the property.

Kiwi here, I live in a remote-ish location and don't get many visitors, I have a gun safe that I keep my rifles in because the law, but nobody checks, I still keep my 870 by the door.

NZ is pretty based.
Shit is license based, but semi autos are fine, suppressors are sold on the same basis as hearing protection and licensed collectors can purchase new machine guns, under the right conditions.
>>
>>33673621
Yea, you can own a lot of things if you can be fucked getting the different licenses, on your normal license you can own most things apart from pistols and full auto stuff. Most people don't care, just get your mate to buy you guns.

Then get a gun or learn some boxing, maybe a stabvest, most junkie home invaders are major threats. The only people who should dress for riots are people going out rioting so don't do that and you'll be good.
>>
>>33673687
i believe in australia stab vests technically qualify as body armor, which makes them very hard to get as a civilian.

>>33673642
>>33673640
so i get a normal gun license, and i can just go out and buy an AR-15? that's awesome, are there mag limitations?
>>
>>33673687
Have a gun, due to legal storage requirements I can't use it if I intend to avoid gaol.
I already cab fight, and have fought off armed home invaders before.
Stabproof vests are illegal without a security license here.
>>
>>33673629
Haha im not that keen to straight up own pistols, if i did id own at least a 44mag so when you buy the ammo, it can at least be ""for a levergun"". I think buying 9mm and handing your a cat licence could raise some eyebrows lol
>>
>lets make a deal bin that shield.
>>
>>33665402
Just shoot the cunt, put a few rounds in the floor after the fact in order to fake warning shots, and say you happened to be cleaning your gun at the time as you're planning to go to the range soon.

Or if you think the cops won't buy that (quite likely), use a bow or crossbow. Regular bow will probably be quicker.
>>
>>33673693
You would need an E class license for a standard AR-15.
To get an E class, you need a genuine reason, service rifle shooting counts as does collection and as does 3-gun shooting.
>>
>>33673698
>Smart men yield, hand over that shield!

>>33673708
You literally didn't read the thread, did you?

They would say that you shouldn't of had the ammo out, and as you were able to secure the ammunition from the safe, you could have retreated.
Less of an issue with bows (Crossbows being Cat E weapons) but try clearing a house with a compound bow.
>>
>>33673710
if you're collecting, can you have fully operating rifles?
>>
>>33673693
You can get an a cat ar15 so one with a thumbhole style stock and magazines with a max capacity of 7rnds. Theyre usually $1400 for a basic sort of one (i know fuck all about uppers and lowers and brands and shit) but you can usually pick up sks's for under $400 and theyre plenty of fun

makes sense. you guys have pretty good gun laws then. i can get a rifle powerful enough to blow someone's head into a fine paste from 800 meters with no trouble as long as it's a bolt action, but the moment i want that same rifle in semi auto i'm martin bryant himself. fucking australia.

>>33675566
It's not illegal, he just doesn't know the laws, only items specifically designed to protect against ballistic threats are illegal.
I think stab proof vests are listed by name as cat E devices, alongside helmets, ballistic protection, plate carriers and plates.
>>
>>33675589
Sounds good, man. I'm glad you have such a cavalier attitude about it. Make sure you get some practice in, not only in its general use but sparring indoors. You'll be restricted by your surroundings. Honestly, I think a spear would be better. Longer reach. Maybe make your own "broom handle" bo staff or some shit, shit hits the fan and you just kick that piece of shit mophead or whatever right off and get to work.
>>
>>33675642
I already have a spear from pig shooting.
I think the confined spaces might work for me due to forcing the intruders into a corridor of death.
>>
>>33675661
Nice, nice. Yeah, they're not going to human-wave you and crash against your shield, especially if you're scary-sounding. Practice battle cries to demoralize them, make them scared to approach. Also watch for flanking through the house , such as going to an adjacent room and shooting through the wall. You should also have a fallback position, maybe it spare gear, in case the first front falls. Ideally it would be unassailable from all but one direction, be able to be sealed off, and have some form of escape route in case they try to burn you out.

Some would say all this sounds paranoid. I would say that preparation for what is possible rather than what is expected is the only responsible method.

If you have time to fire warning shots, you have time to run away and aren't actively threatened, and you actually shot (and kill) someone after firing warning shots, it's premeditated murder
>>
>>33676713
The law here is written with a LOT of ambiguity, which allows cops and the judiciary to use the law outside its original intentions to punish people, but let's them avoid any negative repercussions.

Here a cop can yellow sticker your car (ie. declare your vehicle unroadworthy, costing you a few hundred dollars) if you have a dirty engine bay, it is up to the individual cop to determine dirty.
Same thing goes for our firearms code, straight pull bolt action guns end up in the same category as AR-15s if they're scary enough.

Well, I'd say actually a combination of hoplite/testudo, specialised for corridor fighting.

Picture this:
>My wife, our kids and I - all armed and bearing shields inside of our hallway.
>Forward line, shields locked, bracing with gladiī ready.
>Rear lines, bracing overhead, holding spears through to the front, ready to mulch anyone who contacts the spears.
>First nog tries to charge us, catches a spear and is quickly disposed of.
>Second nog tries jumping on top, second line shields the front line of the Testudo, the rear line pulls him under and kills him.
>A third and a fourth nog throw themselves into the grinder.
>The remaining nogs start to waiver and eventually try to flee the house, the ranks drop shields, Pila fly through the air.
>The hounds are released to chase down any stragglers.
>I wander the field and grant the honourable ones a quick death.
