Thoughts on this cheap and tough knife?
>>33654244
I think it looks cool
>>33654244
Well it's a nice kitchen knife.
>>33654244
I want to hate it, but I kind of want one. If it came in a bowie shape I would order one right now.
Its a sharpened pry bar with subpar heat treatment.
Better than nothing I suppose.

Cheap. And Cold Steel is usually pretty alright when it comes to knives, you should be just fine to get it. Plus it has some mass to it, making it useful for brush at the least.
Its cheap, durable, and can be sharpened. I own one and use it for most of my camping stuff since I don't really care what happens to it. Everyone should own one.

Not even that, it has no belly. Good luck chopping with that.
Cold Steel steel is pretty nice, though I'm not too hot on their folders ever since handling a friend's Spartan that had such a strong detent it was basically an assisted closing knife.

-non-intuitive shape & blade bevel is too high for its thin dimensions..
-tempered & flexible with a usable sheath
-cheap
i have 2 & use them for goofing off innawoods
...a tool to abuse & practice with a belt-sander

>Cold Steel GI Tanto
The original cold steel tanto was a classic.
I don't like that at all though.
>>33654244
I lost mine this winter but found it.
>>33657205
lol where did you find it
>>33655383
>that had such a strong detent it was basically an assisted closing knife
Cold Steel's with the Tri-ad lock don't even have detents. You are talking about the spring tension to disengage the lock bar.
In that case, Cold Steel's do come very stiff, but they break in very well over time. You can speed up the process by leaving the knife half open for a day.
I'm breaking in an XL Talwar right now.

A bit of sanding, some re profiling, and some significant sharpening; besides the coating and a bit less steel, that baby will be like new again.

On a trail in woods. Was doing /out/ stuff with it.
>>33657794
Yes. This hasn't let me down.
>>33657835
>Was doing /out/ stuff with it.
>actually using your knife
glad you found it

I'm sure /out loves you when you show them that pic, with the tanto AND the BK-2... One reason I tend to like /k more. /out never stops bitching about how .25" blades are unnecessary, even when you completely agree with them an say "I just like this knife, so I carry it, even though it's not good".
I once said "I know the BK-2 sucks, but I still plan on getting one because it's just fun"... to which two people posted a link to the gavko video... Even when I show them I actually own two Gavko knives unlike them (pic related), they still kept bitching.
Anyways, rant aside, nice knives. Is the bright one an Esee or Ontario? I like the colors, bright knives like that may show dirt really well, but they are so easy to find around the camp.
Why does anybody still buy Cold Steel's mall ninja garbage?
If you want a cheap tough knife, go get a Morakniv and call it a day.

Yeah Cold Steel's cheaper carbon stuff is supper tough. Not the best at edge holding, but it takes such a beating. I've had 3 or 4 of their machetes. My first one was a 24" Latin, I had it on my belt while hiking up a stream, I fell and landed on it. I bent the tip to the handle, yet it only took like a 5 degree set.
Unfortunately, I can not get it true again, and it's bent enough to torque my hand in use. Now it's my root cutting machete.

Yeah, some of their stuff, and their advertising for sure, is Mall Ninja like. But it does not change the fact that they still make a large assortment of many very good value and higher performing knives and tools.
I own many many knives. Spyderco, ZT, Al Mar, Boker, CRKT, Opinel, yes Mora too,ect... Still my go to work folder is a Cold Steel Code4.
