It's alright.

>Is it a good rifle?
For $300
>>
>>33653619
I think it's a good introduction to semi auto center fire rifles.

Not to hard to take apart and put together.

If you slip or fuck it up visually it's not a big deal.

Unless it's a Russian, those if in great shape should be taken care of ... in America that is.
>>
>>33653619

>>
>>33653619
probably
>>
>>33653619
I love mine, its only downside is that it shoots 7.62x39
>>
>>33653619

I'd call it a fairly good rifle, certainly far more accurate than an AK. I saw a Norinco at a gun show for $325 last month, and was tempted, but went with a $200 surp Makarov instead.
>>
It's wonderful.
>>
>>33653619
They're more accurate than an AK.
>>
>>33653619
I want to like them but I can't deal with that stock. Feels shorter than the AK and Mosin to me.
>>
Theyre not particularly great.
Heavy.

Better than nothing.
Worth $200-300.

I sold mine after one range trip.

The POI will change with they bayo extended, but not by enough to really worry about. I mean, If you really need to make that 200 yard shot, you probably will have the bayo retracted anyway. It's a non-factor.

I have been wanting an SKS for a bit now. Been looking around. Found a Yugo at gun shop in TN. $600 price tag. Tell them thats insane. They come down to $500 right away. I tell them I can get an unissued one from Southern Ohio Gun for $420 and pay $10 for a FFL transfer. Tell them they will have to do at least that since I have to pay TN outrageous 10% sales tax to boot. Guy says the lowest he will go is $470. I just handed back and said "no thanks, Im not going to pay over $500 (remember 10% sales tax) for that rifle when I can order online for $430".
>people wonder why brick and morter stores going out of buissness.
>>
>>33658022
Should have gone lower when you told them about Ohio. Most brick and mortar aim to reach a middle ground like that.

>I'd call it a fairly good rifle, certainly far more accurate than an AK.
So what you're saying is you've never shot either?
An AK and an SKS, properly-built, are as accurate as the round they're chambered in.
A 7.62x39 AK will act almost identical ballistically to an SKS. Theoretically barrel length affects velocity slightly but it's not enough that you're ever going to notice.

Go back to the kids' table until you have experience beyond what you read on survivalistboards and ARFcom.
>>
>>33658321
Same. I've heard that with the shitty chinese/korean(or whatever) clips you can bend them with needlenose pliers to make them more reliable. Haven't tried it yet though.
>>
>>33653658
This, pretty much no reason for me to get an AK now.
>>
It's a 3-4 MOA gun that weighs 9 pounds and shoots a round that's only good for dropping targets 400 rounds and closer.

It's alright if you 1. Get it for $300 or less 2. Understand its limitations

If you live outside of Commiefornia or Jew York then just save up for a modern rifle instead.
>>
>>33659377
You could also try to grab one of those M1s when they become available.
>>
Pros: Caveman reliable, simple, loads from stripper clips, legal in Commie US states & Canada, good round out to 300m. Good deer gun or survival gun and for SHTF it's not a 'scary' looking gun

Cons: Heavy, capacity, it's good out to 300m, the magazine conversions are notoriously unreliable.

Conclusion: if it's all you can afford, great get it. If you want it for a camp gun, great get it. For home defense or WROL I'd rather have a .223/5.56 AR
>>
>>33658022
Just got the same gun from SOG, anyone know the best way to strip the stock and refinish it? The colors uneven, which I think is cause of my carelessness while cleaning the cosmo off
>>
>>33661475
Don't do it.

Use paint thinner to get the cosmo out and it should even up the color. Then rub with boiled linseed oil to finish it
>>
>>33657926

what make/model is that? Really nice wood anon.
>>
>>33653619
yesterday, at an auction in South Missouri, I saw a Norinco go for five hundred dollars. I cried a little.
>>
It was great back when they were $100.

Today an AK is a much better bargain.
>>
So I have an SKS that shoots high. I was told I should take it to a 25 meter target and adjust the front sight (turn it to the left) until it hits dead center. Is that the right way to adjust it?

yes you can adjust the front sight post up or down and also adjust for windage. do you know that these rifles are zeroed at 100yds so its normal to shoot a little bit high at close range

Got mine for free, my uncle bought a case of them in the 80's to sell, had some trouble getting an ffl and never sold them. One day he just handed me one. Best free gun I ever had. I wouldn't spend over $300 for one though.
>>
>>33658199
there are noguns children in Africa you monster.
>>
>>33664494

Yeah, I figured. My friend claims that it should zero at 25m AND 100m, with it shooting a bit high at 50m. I'm not really sure if that's correct though, which is why I'm asking.

Relax, it's from a goofy "torture test" that Calibre did.
>Lit on fire
>Dragged down gravel road behind a truck
>Pulled out of box and shot, no cleaning Cosmoline off
>Flooded with maple syrup
>Shot with .22
>Blown up with half-pound of Tannerite directly under receiver
>Still technically functioned as a straight-pull (slight bend in receiver interfered with normal function, still would chamber a round manually, maybe)

>>

just go to local gun shows, that's where i got mine. i found an unfired Norinco type 56 from 1959 and got it for 350.
>>
>>33664725
vertical I would assume.

you're moving the centre of mass forward.

recoil impulse affects the gun before the bullet has even left the barrel.

and because the centre of mass has been moved forward somewhat, I would assume that slightly less barrel climb would occur than if the bayo wasnt deployed.

It probably wouldnt affect your first shot too much, but it would affect followup shots quite a bit.

thats a good point, but i think that when a shot is fired that the bayonet will effect barrel harmonics as well. What im wondering is if taking the bayo off completely will give better accuracy.

Can my question be answered here? It'd be much appreciated.
>>
>>33663214
It's a Norinco likely made sometime in 1965 according to http://chinesesks.weebly.com/dating-the-chinese-sks.html.

No idea what the wood is, but it was the nicest looking one I found online, which meant it cost about 75 dollars more than it probably should've. Overall it's in really good condition. No rust, no dings, no dents worth mentioning. Pretty happy with it, despite it just being a Chinese variant.
>>
>>33665238

same auctioneer but last janurary, red neck fudds got in a bidding war over a marlin model 60. it sold for $300.

like, fucking why? you can buy them at Wal-Mart for <$200.

same auction, a handmade boxlock 12 gauge double with local harvested swirl walnut stock and splinter forend went for $400. Auctioneer started bidding at $1,000.

It was A FUCKING WORK OF GODDAMN ART! retard rednecks couldn't be assed to pay what it's worth.

>>33665632
Isn't that half the point of auctions? To sell something for more than it's worth, or get something for less?

I don't really know how it works, and can't honestly say that it would deflect the same from rifle to rifle. With mine, it pushed the shots up and right about 3/4".

I theorized that the deflection of muzzle gas was doing it, in the same way a fucked-up crown will throw a shot off, but I have really no idea.

It was great at $100

It was pretty good at $200

It's still better than average at current price point. They don't do quite as well as an AKM at shooting dirty. It's not uncommon to get a slam fire in a filthy gun and burn through a whole magazine while also not being prepared for it.

And bubbaing an SKS isn't even that big of a deal because you don't alter the gun and you can put back the wood furniture in like three minutes.

Yes and no. You will need to ensure the journals (round parts the sight block goes on) are the same diameter.
You are going to need some way to support the sks barrel/reciever as you press the components on. After you do that you will need to make sure the rifle will zero with the new fs before pinning it on.

a decent (i.e. not bubba'd, and not the recent import from albania) chink sks will run you easily over $400 on gunbroker after shipping (what the fuck is with retards charging $40+ to ship nowadays?) and transfer fees. anything more exotic than that, i.e. albanian, russian, rare chink variants, or even yugo will run you even more.

it makes more sense to just put down 100 bucks more and get an entry AR-15 or AK. hell, in fact i was going to bid on a stamped receiver chink SKS today. it was only $250 earlier in the day and i hoped that due to it being easter i might snatch it for cheap. instead, a bid war developed and right now it's already at $410 + $45 for shipping + transfer fee. it's simply not worth that money as interesting as stamped receiver sks are.
