is it good?

It has the greates manuverabilty of all choppers in BF2 but the gun is a bit weak.

the 30mm of the Apache's gun has roughly the same explosive power as a hand grenade so yes

The Apache doesn't carry enough rounds to rely on the main gun for CAS. We were normally only loading ~200 rounds even though the magazine can take 1200 (or 300 if the robby tank is installed, which it usually is), because they come on 6-round stripper clips and have to be manually inserted on the conveyor. Doing a full 1200 rounds takes approximately forever.

most CAS calls aren't that intense, during the surge you'd see two Apaches spending 16 hellfires and their entire magazines in a single day, but any fight getting that hot would just receive air force assets.

The Apache's autocannon has a 320rpm cyclic rate. That's less than a full minute of ammo, but slow enough the rounds hit 60+ feet apart unless the helo's hovering at low altitude (which means RPG bait). As someone who both worked on them and had them as CAS in firefights the chin gun is pretty shit at CAS, they relied HEAVILY on their rockets and usually didn't even fly with Hellfires equipped in favor of quad-loaded Hydra pods (76 rockets).
