how outdated is nork military equipment compared to murrican military equipment. are they even actually that outdated. also what did /k/ think of the nork parade. how would murrican infantry fare against the norks
>>
Outdated as fuck

But that didnt stop Vietnam from beating the US so...
>>
>>33651176

Problem is that the Norks would try to fight a conventional war against the US and get curbstomped in the process. I'm not even convinced they'd keep up an insurgency afterward, they've lived under a totalitarian regime for ages now, the second anyone in that regime says: "we surrender lol" the people will shrug and go back to farming or whatever. Utterly apathetic to the goings-on of the powers that be.
>>
>>33651197
>conventional war
Isnt that just a buzzword used to make ourselves feel better? If you were going up against the biggest military force on Earth, would you fight fair?
>>
>>33651176
how outdated. i've compared some of the dates on some equipment and it seems like even a lot of modern american equipment in use was developed during the cold war era
>>33651197
>Problem is that the Norks would try to fight a conventional war against the US
don't think so. the norks have thousands of miles of tunnels throughout the region even through seoul which would pretty much render american air superiority useless. they'll also fight a lot of guerilla skirmishes which as we know america doesn't really have a good counter for
>>
>>33651217
They cant afford optics for their troops and their "Special Forces" has to jump from biplanes because they cant afford anything else.

Conventional implies the enemy wears a uniform and are considered legal combatants with all that implies.

Fighting a guerrilla war without an identifying uniform makes things really fuzzy in the "not supposed to shoot" catagory.

Fundamentally speaking, if you are dressed like Joe Civi when you attack an army you have no recourse when said army begins gunning down civilians. It also means you are not an enemy soldier and therefore have no protection as a prisoner of war if captured. Said army is free to do any horrible thing they want to you.

This tactic only does well with nations that give a shit about public perception and won't go full Ghengis Khan on your ass and just erase you and your people from history for being a cunt.

When you're operating literally in your own backyard, it doesn't really matter if your equipment is the newest and best, especially if you've been preparing literally your entire life for this. They have home field advantage in some of the shittiest terrain on earth. Meanwhile the US doesn't really excel at alpine and winter warfare, considering that we've spent the last decade practising urban, desert and ridge/hill combat. If it comes down to a ground war, American soldiers will die in very large numbers.

tl;dr China wants Trump to kill the North Koreans so the US won't have a reason to keep troops in Asia anymore. The Koreans know their military is behind the times, which is why they're heavily invested in surprise and tricks of war. The leadership won't stop either once the fighting breaks out because they know they'll be removed from power short of total victory.

Their civilians are unarmed and malnourished. Nine of them have ever fired a gun in real life because the North's government would be to or afraid of a revolt if civilians ever got guns.

Because of these factors the war would be a conventional one where a US/South Korean coalition would curbstomp the North who have at best 60's era equipment and not much of it because of Trade sanctions and Communism generally being shit.

Anyone bringing up Vietnam as a comparison is a retard because it was a very different situation. There they had an well armed and effective Vietnamese insurgent populace who where backed by both China and the Soviets. Said populace believed that the US was tyring to conquer them imperially and thus believed in their cause. Last of all Vietnam was an incredibly unpopular war in the US with the draft being poorly implemented and taking allot of soldier shot who did not want to be there. In the end it wasn't a shitty situation and the US just decided it was not worth it anymore. North Korea on the other hand is an actual threat to the US/allies because of shitty nukes, doesn't have anyone to fight gorilla warfare, and would be dead within a week.

So what? Again, it's their own back yard. I seriously doubt they'll even have much use for airborne troops as such. Further, given terrain and weather, there's a lot to recommend low and slow over 35 angels with your hair on fire.

>North Korea can't afford an army

That's pure speculation. No one has any real idea what they have stockpiled. Sure, their civilians are starving and desperately poor, but there's no reason to think that's not in large part due to military and party hoarding.

Don't fall for the "dirt poor gooks" meme. Sure, maybe they'll fold at the first sight of trouble like the Republican Guard and the whole thing will be over in weeks. Or maybe, and I think more likely, they'll make us pay for every single yard we take with no regard for their own lives like the Japanese in Okinawa and the Pacific or the Chinese in the Korean War. You ask any veteran of Chosin or Peleliu how much technological advancement is worth when facing an enemy that hates you more than he loves living. Remember, these people hate us. They hate everything about us. They want to kill us, cannot conceive a world where our two nations are at peace. And they have chemical, nuclear, and possibly biological weapons. And we are contemplating going to their home to pick a fight. I've no doubt that the West will win, but by god we will earn it.

Question for you guys. Only slightly related to this bread.

F-18s, F-35s, F-22s, etc are all amazing. But at best, what does each have for AA missions? 2, 4 AA missiles? Maybe a cannon? And how many do they fly at once? A handful at best.

So what would happen if a swarm of ww2 or ww1 planes came against them? I'm talking in the fashion they used to fly at the time, with hoards anywhere from a dozen to a few hundred. Even if every single missile kills a plane, there would still be many left, and the older planes have slower stall speeds right? So wouldnt it make it difficult for the modern planes to maneuver against them?

In effect, my question; would modern fighter jets be able to to defend SK against 100+ WW2/WW1 planes loaded to the brim with explosives?
>>
>>33661485
engaged with missiles that they cannot even see, from heights they cannot reach, at speeds they cannot match.
>>
>>33661491
Sure, but those missiles are limited. It would take so many fighter jets to kill them all, right? They would have to launch multiple sorties which would probably allow the older planes to hit their targets.

It's hoard warfare, but instead of missile guidance systems; or drones, we are talking about suicidal, brainwashed human guidance. I am in no way implying that the old planes would shoot down any jets.

pretty outdated desu. cold war leftovers.

>how would murrican infantry fare against the norks

Not really the concern on peninsula short of nuke/chemical threat, which is still extremely possible. NK being unable to develop an ICBM does not mean they can't lay nuclear mines on the border or kill thousands of ROK civilians with conventional artillery. Remember Yeonpyeong. That could happen to Seoul, or any US military base near the border.

Once battle has started US infantry would win, easily. It'll be Gulf War again, tens of thousands of surrendering troops. The North Koreans have been starving to death for decades. The Jonger and his true believers just won't allow anyone to give up the ship. When US/NATO rolls through, very very few North Koreans will be dressed as soldiers.

So, Norks exhaust their whole airforce in one suicidal attack and if lucky, around 10% of planes will reach their targets and do some limited damage, because they do not have any modern ammunition in the first place and planes will need to carry shitload of fuel instead of ordnances because they need to rely on speed to go through fighters and air defence (they have absolute zero capacity in EW)
And the on day D+1 they will have nothing for even trying to somehow cover their forces from CAS, attack helis and fighters. How long you thing they survive?

>b-b-ut chemical/biological/nuclear weapons

You mean horde.

The jet fighters would still win, even if they had to use guns/gunpods.

They can just shoot down from range and height, their weapons are probably longer range but even if not, they have targeting systems and lock and shoot from extreme range and with even slight cloud cover, they shoot down the older planes without being seen. They're more or less unaffected by weather or clouds and have near perfect targeting. It's not even a contest.

I also have to question how compatible NORK doctrine is with proper insurgency tactics. Worked very well for 'Nam and Soviets in WWII, but seems to me that the Korean ''People's'' Army isn't very willing cooperate with civilian population in terms of enabling them proper resources to sustain an unconventional war. If anything, unlike Vietnamese and Soviet armies, Korean People's Army does exactly the opposite, in that it primarily serves to oppress the civilian populace so they don't get ''out of line''.

You shouldn't be talking shit about anyone, your whole military is one big pile of JUST for fuck's sake. But at least you're in the least JUSTed branch of it, so hey, good luck.
>>
>>33665490
There is no "least JUSTed branch". There is only on deployment and not. On deployment is killa operator. Not on deployment is bitch boy wheredagunsat.
>>
>>33665161
I'd say they're probably equivalent of a T-64 in their capabilities.Though I am certain no T-64 has ever engaged an Abrams. In fact, I'm not sure if it has even ever engaged against western tanks at all, only T-72s in Ukraine as far as my recollection goes.
>>
>>33662350
Uh.. Why is there an RPK strapped to the barrel of that? Also what the fuck is with the white tire sidewalls?
>>
>>33665507
I was talking about the state of Bundeswehr in general. Mind you, it's still a very competent fighting force, but it leaves a lot to be desired in the most baffling components.
>>
>>33651255

Equipment isn't just the kit they have on them, how many sets of body armour is there to go round, do they have trucks to get parts and food to the front and do they even have enough food and parts for an actual fight.
>>
>>33651231
Has anyone figured out how they get those mags in and out of their AKs? They seem to lock around the cleaning rod holder in the middle and they don't have the clearance to rock in.
>>
>>33664324
>north korea, the most fanatical country on the planet, would never surrender

Is nobody else seeing the parallels between NK and imperial Japan?

Who will have a will to fight there when fatboy is on tv weeping while being spanked by Trump? You think when they realize they don't have to be starving slaves they will fight on? It might take a bit to convince them but liberation from their generational nightmare of a government would likely be very well received.
>>
>>33665898
Hook into cleaning rod holder, rock into standard mag lock?
>>
>>33651339
Koksan artillery pieces. Iran used these against Iraq in the 80s. They were apparently pretty good long range artillery, and it has been reported that the Iranians were able to fire on oil fields from 40 miles away. I can't say for sure that that is true, though. The Iraqis captured a bunch of them, though. The US captured one that was on display at an Iraqi university, as well.
>>
>>33665980
Have you ever held an AK? The lip on the mag won't allow it in, if it could just slide in there'd be nothing to retain it.
>>
>>33666095
Maybe the system is modified somehow? North Korea has been known to tweak things in the past. It could also be that they're not actually real and just for show. North Korea has been known to do that, as well.
>>
>>33666156
I doubt that as Kim's personal guards use them and I very much doubt they would be holding useless rifles.
>>
>>33666095
It's been a while but yes i have used an AK. I am saying that if you hook the mag at the front by the bayo lug or cleaning rod holder it would work the same as the lip on the front of a normal mag would it not?
You only need a thin wall on the front of the round to guide it instead of the usual lip that hooks into the reciever. It would basically work the same as a regular mag just the front contact point is the cleaning rod holder instead of mag well.
>>
>>33666167
You never know. Kim has been photographed using a lot of useless shit, including using a Nork computer copied from a 90s iMac to display their domestically-produced operating system, "Window" (singular). I highly doubt that he actually uses "Window" or rides around in a Pyeongwha "luxury" car outside of PR photos. It could be that his actual bodyguards don't get photographed, just like we can assume that his actual computer is probably a Western product that is not photographed.
>>
>>33666239
I find it hard to believe that small of a point of contact would be strong enough to hold that heavy of a mag in place and to allow reliable feeding.
>>
>>33651845
>and MiG-15 fighter planes

even a Mig-15 can still be a serious threat to anything on the ground that's not an MBT.

Nobody expects NK aircraft to engage American & SK aircraft.

The role of infantry in a big conventional war in the present day would be to die by the thousand, mostly to artillery. Meme small arms won't change the outcome.

well then you are not going to engage dick
without at least some air denial flight ops are impossible, esp ancient junk without smart munitions and only eyeball mk -1 as a senor

subcaliber simulators, most likely.

The U.S. used to do the same with a subcaliber insert based on the M1903, for many artillery pieces.

Japanese started off as a dialect of chinese and adopted their alphabet, but then they went off and invented their own alphabet and combined the two.

English is a mutt language as well. Started off as Saxon which was similar to dutch and then the romans came and they adopted their alphabet and added a bunch of latin words, then the french invaded and added a bunch of french, and then added some greek as well just to fuck our shit up a little more. The reason english has so many words and so many different ways to say the same thing is because we're speaking a language that is really like 4+ languages crammed together.

Considering it's confirmed they have NO fire control computer, NO stabilized gun, NO NVG's, NO thermals, and it's questionable whether they have a radio worth half a shit, I doubt it would match up against even a Sheridan as far as actual combat effectiveness.

>Relying on hiding in tunnels as a tactic
Japan tried that and all it meant was that most of them died in those tunnels of either dehydration or flamethrowers. Sure it slowed the US down clearing them out and they killed a lot of men in surprise attacks but it's not a particularly viable strategy. Now we don't even have to send men into them, just wait for a drone to spot activity then collapse the entrance with artillery or missiles.

A truly effective and long term guerrilla movement relies on the support of the populace, and that won't happen once we start feeding them.

are you an expert on nork army? no. get lost american education
>>
>>33651700
just to add to this comment, you also have 10th mountain and their/the mountain training courses provide to many personnel in the military.

Lets not also forget the military's ecws, and ability to carry supplies and equipment to actually hold terrain. The norks would take a hill and leave after a few days of no resupply.

Then we also have LRAS, individual nods, and squad/crew served thermal sights.

It aint gonna b yo daddy's korean war again.
>>
>>33651385
Even if you got some... how tall are you? NK shit is hard to find as-is. I am betting NK shit in usable Western sizes is nigh impossible.

That IR illuminator is a good indicator that the sights of that tank are still stuck in the 70's.
>>
>>33651363
Doesn't matter, the states have drones, and you can't retreat into the mountains forever, people have to eat. New Zealand terrain is very similar to North Korean terrain in a lot of way, you can't win wars in that shit only hide for a couple months max.

That was my original thought as well, but if you look at the mount the rpk's arent even clamped on all that rigidly and there seems to be no method for remote firing. It's possible it's just a string that's too small to see in the photo, but the two rpk's arent even uniformly secured to the barrels. One is cocked to the side
