Because you get to play the alpha and contribute to the development of the game. The devs are active on the alpha forums, and they often respond to topics and actively read about reported bugs and such.

And if you're going to pay the premium in order to get guaranteed access, it's like donating extra to the devs so they can do a better job at actually making the game better for when it's released in a year or so.

And yes it is /k/ approved. As for the game itself so far, there are only 3 raids. No open world mode. No negatives for shooting everyone on sight all the time, so you hardly get cooperation with people you meet. AI is very one minded and will basically aimbot you and instakill you within two seconds if they see you. Armor is a little unbalanced, but also seems useless sometimes because someone can just shoot you in the legs and kill you in two shots. The economy of the traders is a little bit fucked up at the moment. It's annoying when it's night time because it gets pitch black, NODs are really expensive, fllashlights suck, and AI can see in the dark, so nobody plays at night and you have to wait a few hours fir it to cycle to night. In the meantime you're stuck playing factory (the CQB centered map), which is basically just "how to lose gear to AI aimbots 101". etc.

It's worth the price if you like tactical games. It's a lot more fun if you have friends to play with too.

And $140 isn't that bad because I have a job and I can just make more money in the future. Stop being poorfags.

I cannot afford to spend $100 on another croudfunded waiting game, especially not one that has this "under the table, NDA, $100 for acess" pre alpha shit where they are making zero first party attempts to tell people how the game is coming along. As someone with 900 hours into DayZ standalone since the very start, and uncountable hours in STALKER games I want this game to be amazing, but $100 for a closed alpha with an NDA for so long is shady as fuck

SC meanwhile $150 million and too big to fail, just a waiting game.

if you're going to release an unfinished product, you can't charge the same price as if it were finished. if anything, you would think these developers would sell the game at cost to increase the user base (and therefore error reports/feedback) and to reward early adopters

but no, they charge full price. you know why? they aren't interested in making a full, complete game. they're just keeping a good thing going while they can until the community loses interest and migrates to another ea title.

that's not to say they're entirely at fault all the time, sometimes bills stack up, but I will never pay full price for anything less than a full product and I wish others did the same.

also the dlc train is fucking gay and so is fo4, but that conversation has already been beat to death several times over

The NDA has been over for a month now, and the devs are more concerned about talking to the alpha testers on their forums at the moment. They're very active with fixing things and patching regularly.

It's not an arena twitch shooter at all. If you play like that, you will do horribly. The gameplay mechanics are all solid and work well, aside from a few bugs. The open world will be implemented when all the raids are finished, so once you clear them all, it connects them all into one open map. And stuff like the karma system will be in place to try to keep people from shooting members of their own faction on site, and they will have some clan features as well, and hopefully an in game voip feature. And games like Day Z and H1Z1 are way more casual run and gun than this, they play more like COD. If you run around like that in Tarkov, you will get killed very quickly. Tarkov is super autistic about the weapons and the gameplay mechanics. You actually have to shoot people where their body armor isn't covering them if you want to kill someone who has rifle plates, for instance.

Unarmored and one rifle shot to the chest will kill you. Shotguns have realistic range and will fuck up unarmored people in one to two shots. Handguns will usually drop someone in two or three shots.

Soft armor really helps you take a few extra hits at times, but shotguns will still shred it pretty quick, and it doesn't do anything to protect your limbs, so if someone shoots the fuck out of your arms or legs you still die instantly. Rifles will cut through and kill you instantly.

Hard armor is really effective, so you have to shoot people in the legs three or four times to do enough damage to kill them.

The only helmet in the game at the moment is a but fucked up because it can protect from shots to the head from mostly anything, so if you have hard armor and a helmet and you take it slow you're going to win almost every face to face gunfight. That said, I've been killed in two shots while wearing armor and a helmet, so if you're a good shot you can still fuck people up easily.

Also the damage system is so that your bones can break and your limbs made useless, so if you break a leg you have to walk everywhere unless you splint it. You can also bleed out if you don't bandage. Those status effects are really inconsistent at the moment though, and sometimes you can't stop bleeding or splint broken limbs... And no one really knows how it works. Devs also seem to be changing the parameters and such each patch to try to fine tune it.

Sorry if my rambling doesn't make any sense. Basically, the armor and damage system is more realistic than any of the other typical survival shooters out now. Tarkov is a different beast altogether to them.

Unless you're extremely careful you have two approaches available in tarkov:

use really good gear and make gains really slowly (because you have all your slots filled up just leaving the wire) because you don't have a lot of room left in your inventory to fill with loot

OR

you can use small amounts of advanced gear that you have to be smart about using and hope to scavenge rather than punch people for their lunch money.

either way, every time you die you lose your gear and the overwhelming majority of the time people with gucci gear die faster than they can replace it.
