Civil War in Ukraine gets priority over shipping it to the US.

You missed the boat on cheap surplus, better off buying commercial steel case.

It's not even expensive. Sure the price has risen but it's still cheap

I actually just want some brass so I can start replicating WW2 era loads for it to actually get some accuracy out of it.

So I bought it (after it got expensive) for the history.
>>
>>33641600
I have an old PU scope. I have a nice Tula hex receiver 91/30. Should I bite the bullet and drill them holes to mount the scope? I kind of just want to buy another 91/30 and bubba it. Then I think do I really need a 3rd nugget? (Also have a m44). Suggestions?
>>
it all dried up and in 1993 Russian 54r general ball ammo moved to actual AP ammo and can't be imported legally.

the 1993 and prior stuff that we could import all has been either used or purchased and sent to the Middle East, Middle eastern countries were paying over 55 cents a round for it in super bulk (container load) a few importers have stated this.
54r surplus is done forever.
>>
>>33641680
It's not worth it. If you want a PU, spend the money on a real one.
>>
>>33641193
>200 for a can of nugget food
lol where, I live in new york and get a crate of two cans with opener for 220...
>>
>>33641680
Few questions to ask yourself before you do this.

>Is the PU scope russian or a chinese repro
Personally wouldn't want to use a chinese scope on a russian rifle

>Is the MOA on your hex tula below 3-2.5 moa?
It's a "sniper's rifle" so you at least want something within a reasonable MOA

>How precious is this rifle to YOU
If you love the shit out if it and probably aren't going to sell it off then I dont see an issue with you doing what you want with it.

If the first 2 are good to go then go for it dude.
>>
>>33641784
It is a Russian PU scope. Came off a 1943 Izhevsk IIRC. Maybe I will just sell the PU scope. How much does one go for now?
>>
>>33641650
>history
Out of all the rifles you pick, you pick the one that was produced out the ass and carried by millions of communist peasants?
I would have gone for something more uncommon like a Carcano or a MAS 36. Everyone and their dog's fleas has a Mosin.
>>
>>33641976
I also have a Webley Mk VI, an M48 (the Mauser) and a few other (more modern) surplus handguns.

I already had a bunch of stuff, and I got it about two months ago for $180 (roughly $200 out the door)

Considering when I bought it it was a pretty good deal.
>>
>>33642004
How much was the Webley? Planning on getting one next month.
>>
>>33641539
You can get veprs in 6.5 now
>>
>>33642046
$800 plus tax (I talked them down from $890 plus tax)
It's even an all matching 1915 date one.
Sadly the split spring version of the latch spring is shit, and snapped and flew into my face upon opening it up for the seventh time.

I couldn't find an original split version of the spring so I had to settle for the bent spring steel version. Makes me sad but what the hell, I'll get an original pattern one eventually.
Oh, it's shaved btw. Sexy as fuck though.

I'm beginning to think that Mosins all ended up in appropriate hands, because the people who own them, much like the communists who built them in the first place, don't seem to have a very good grasp on the concept of supply and demand. There's this persistent idea that the universe owes them a reality in which Mosin rifles are $60 and cans of surplus ammo are dirt cheap. Long story short: no.

"Where did all the cheap surplus 54r go?" Down the barrel of your rife over the course of the past ten years or so. You used it as if it was a limitless resource when it wasn't, dried up supplies of it at the same level of demand, and now can't understand why prices have gone up. Well, at least you're just complaining on an internet image board instead of destroying the economy of Venezuela.

Putting a scope on it isn't going to make it more accurate. They put scopes on rifles that exceeded accuracy standards at the factory, not just any 91/30 off the line.

If you were going out bubba, and I hope you fucking don't, I would get an Ex-sniper to put a scope back on.

Sorry, busted camera.
I have something I can try, buuuut... it's kinda shit.
It's not like it's an excellent condition gun anyways.
The bluing is about dead in most places, completely gone at worst.
The grips are dinged up, lead fowling everywhere that refuses to come off even with bore brushes.
The trigger sometimes skips (though the timing is absolutely pristine, I have to wonder how that happened.)

The clips is...fuck if I know. But it's not parkerised like the others I sold. So I kept it as it was kinda weird looking.

I'm honestly not too torn up about it, free market made churning out new production steelcase still relatively cheaply.

Though I don't think civilian imports had much to do with it, the supply was shrinking and then the middle east and ukraine caught on fire finishing off what would have been a steady supply for decades.

it's why I didn't buy those old surplus torkorev pistols. They're only cheap because they just got a stock of them and are trying to move them quick, who knows how freaking cheap they got them to sell so many probably a bulk discount. The ammo is just cheap at the time too to help move it. Where do you expect to find ammo for that thing without an internet connection?
>>

I mean I'll keep it as an interesting little bit of history. Realistically it won't be worth much more than what was paid for it until it's in my grandkids' hands, but who cares? it's a funcitonal gun, if/when i want to shoot it I'll buy a couple boxes of whatever cheap ammo i can find, and if I want to use a full-sized round from a bolt gun for something practical I can buy something produced in the last 40 years.
