I'm looking for a milsurp rifle.
My choice are between a mosin, a m48 and a k11/k31 schmidt.
Which one is the best ?

note : 7,5x55 surplus is widely available in my country
>>
>>33640238
They're all pretty equal. K31 has a great trigger though.
>>
>>33640244
K31 are great but K11 are pretty cheap around 290 euros.
>>
>>33640244
You are comparing k31 to mosin and m48? I know you are a trip but that's just fucking insane.
Also op how much is 7.55 in France?

K31 every day.

K11s are also nice and good.

It's the only milsurp still commonly used for sports shooting at 300 meters as an official sports.
>>
>>33640618
It's 0.60€ per cartridge.

K31 is quite a bit better than the K11 tho; stronger, simpler action, slightly longer sight radius (with shorter minimum zero), heavier barrel profile. I find the K31 to be a more consistent shooter than the K11.
>>
>>33640618
Considering I have all three (well, a M24/47 not a M48 but whatever) I'd say I can equate them with a degree of experience. The K31 will be a bit more accurate and have a better trigger, but the sights suck, it's the least ergonomic of the 3 and the heaviest. So it ultimately comesdown to preference; AKA the choice between every milsurp rifle ever.

>the sights suck,
I think they are better than either the M48 or the M91/30's (I assume he means M91/30 when he says "Mosin") sights. Nice square post easy to get on target.
>>
My K-31 is something I never expected to love as much as I do. A big bonus that people forget is that it has a 100m sight setting which is great for a lot of ranges that are only 200m max. GP11 is notoriously good quality non corrosive ammunition. In comparison, surplus 8mm is nearly 100% corrosive and often meant for machine guns. As an investment, K-31s will probably be better in the long term as they are nicer more refined marksman's rifles.

>often meant for machine guns.
Which is why it so often comes on 5-rd stripper clips, right?
Just because the 197.5gr projectile was adopted to increase the effective range of German MGs does not mean that the ammo was meant only for machine guns.

Reading comprehension test! Did I say "THIS AMMO IS ONLY FOR MACHINE GUNS"?

Machine gun ammo is sometimes loaded hotter and with less care to exact measurements of velocity as intended use is for filling a beaten zone with projectiles. Yugo sniper ball is of much better quality than standard ball or heavy ball. GP11 is beyond anything else in quality for a standard ball round.

>Machine gun ammo is sometimes loaded hotter and with less care to exact measurements of velocity
On the contrary, the German 7.9mm s.S.-Patrone marked "für MG" was ammunition of a superior dimensional and velocity consistency than the standard heavy ball. It was also not higher pressure ammo.

Key word there is "SOMETIMES". If Germany was the only country to make 8 Mauser ammo then you would be right. German surplus is long dried up and my post was trying to help OP not points score on the internet. Yugo and Turk surplus are what is commonly available right now.

Pls stop embarrassing yourself and COMPREHEND what you read.

>>33642877
You got cucked, faggot

>Yugo and Turk surplus are what is commonly available right now.
And none of that is "MG" ammo.
>>
>>33643304
OP here, but 8mm yugo and turk surplus are nowhere to be found in France.
>>
>>33643760
Can you guys handload in France?
>>
>>33643760
Just buy a K-31 and be a happy anon like me!
>>
>>33643777
Of course yes I reload 243 win and 44 mag.
>>
>>33643819
Then you shouldn't have a problem with 8mm Mauser.

I'd suggest a French arm for you, but I know those aren't cheap over there.
>>
>>33643515
You're a fucking idiot. The main reason you can't use 8mm Turk in fn 49s and Hakims is BECAUSE it's hot loaded MG ammo
>>
>>33644043
They come in bandoliers on stripper clips. They aren't MG ammo. The rounds are hotter because the powder in them is old and has broken down some from poor storage. Smaller grains = faster burning powder.
>>
>>33644012
French rifles are around 300-500 euros, but 8mm lebel is actually rare here
>>
>>33644072
A lot of 8mm Lebel chambered guns in France have been converted to .348 Winchester because of the former French law that had a more stringent license to own guns in "military calibers." If you do want to buy one be sure what caliber it's in.

I think those prices are pretty low from the French collectors of French guns I've talked to.
>>
>>33644072
I thought things like a Mas 36 went for 1000 or so Euros.
>>
>>33644180
The price of the MAS 36 is a meme, a berthier in good shape can be around 400 euros.
But I'm looking for a multipurpose milsurp rifle with cheap ammo.
>>
>>33644043
>>33644069
You are both wrong; Turkish surplus 8x57 is an exact clone of the German 1905 S-Patrone; firing a 154gr flat-base projectile at 2936fps from a 29.1" barrel of a Gew.98 (or a Turkish 8x57 long rifle). It maximizes muzzle velocity by using a slow-burning powder, which makes it unsuitable for use in a semi-auto rifle because the pressure is still increasing as the gas hits the moving parts, putting more energy into the system than the springs can handle.
>>
>>33644289
Of the 3 you listed, the Mosin is the most fun to me. After that would be the K31, followed by the Mauser.
>>
>>33644584

Honestly, I have a question about baguette blasting bars. What's your opinion on a MAS 49/56 that got rechambered in 7.62 NATO if it works well? What are some issues you've noticed ?
I'd get one in 7.5 French but quite honestly, I'm just not partial to the caliber.
>>
>>33640238
I don't fucking understand why all that swiss gear is displayed on a french poncho.

Anyway K31 is the way to go, but K11 and G11 are pretty nice too if you're short on money.
>>
>>33645168
The ones the French did are supposedly great. But there's only about 200 or 300 of those. The ones Century did... well Century earned their reputation. They didn't change anything other than the chamber for 308, so reliability is usually shit. Additionally I don't like rechambered guns much in the first place, especially ones done by importers. But these days the 308 is the cheaper option, because people like me have talked up French rifles so much there is a greater demand for them.

The French ones in 7.62NATO were not conversions. The ones Century converted are a shit. They had to cut the barrels down at the breech so they could ream it for the shorter cartridge and instead of moving the already short gas tube back they just cut the end of the gas tube. They're way overgassed. I've also heard of some they didn't cut the gas tube short enough so it slams into the bolt carrier.

This is how you tell a converted one from one that hadn't been.
