ISIS is partially an offshoot of Al-Queda. Al-Queda was essentially a state-within-a-state in Taliban controlled Afghanistan.

It stands to reason that former Taliban members would be willing to join ISIS. Both ideologically and because ISIS offers a lot better of a global network.

Saying that ISIS in Afghanistan is "just" rebranded Taliban ignores the fluidity of membership for shit like this.

And? The remaining Taliban in Afghanistan decided to rebrand themselves as ISIS and get access to the networking and resources of ISIS. That makes them ISIS.
