What do you guys think is optimal, how many times a month and how many rounds on average?

Shooting an AR if that helps.
>>

I havent shot my guns in 3 months
>>
>>33623773
I try to go at least once a mounth and maybe do 100 rounds a trip.

I took a day off to go to the range yesterday but the half hour drive was just too far so I just played the Witcher 3 instead with one of my rifles on my lap :^)
>>
>>33623773
for your defensive shooting draw stroke, every rep counts. also the frequency counts, 3 times 100reps a week is better than 300reps once a week. if you can make it to the range to blow out 10rds, do it. if it's only 5rds, do it. if you can't make it to the range, unload your gun and do some dry fire draw strokes into a safe target. you shouldn't think you are anywhere near trained before you've practised a movement at least 10k times.
>>
Only you can answer that question. Are you accurate? Are you fast? Are you confident? Would you really shoot someone?
>>
>>33623773
I go once or twice a month. I'd like to go more but my budget doesn't allow it.

I go every 2 weeks. Really only shoot my cc gun.

Usually get everything I need done with around 100-120 rounds. Barely shoot my AR because I'm simply not interested in it.

i havnt gone for a while because of work, but now i have a friend who motivates me to go like every sunday. I bring a couple pistols and rifles usually and go through 200-300 rounds.

Reasonably, still plenty of room for improvement.

No, I'm on 4chan.

I wish everyday that a mother fucker would.

>>33624765
That many rounds a week has got to cost a shit load.

Every second that could be spent shooting would be optimal.

I go once a week. Sometimes twice.

can't help you in any way as my backyard is my range so i go when i please...and an average of 10-50 rounds depending on gun

>tfw home range master race.

I've got a up to a 35 yard pistol range, a 50 yard target, and 100 yard target. I spend most my time on the pistol range setting up targets based on real world scenarios.

This is a drill I developed called the White Knight Drill.

Goal time is 8 seconds. I shoot it around 6.40. Course of fire is 10 rounds.
7 yards - Save Stacy from Chad Thundercock with a headshot
10 yards - Djibouti Shooty on Jamal Marquis DeAndre
25 yards - 3x controlled pairs on the Fucking Cis White Male
>>
I hate shooting because im fucking terrible at it. Barely on paper at 50 with a rifle and a sandbag.

Like collecting tho
>>
>>33627467
kek.
>>
>>33623773

I got at least once a week.

With ARs, it really depends. Once every two weeks if I'm in the zone. Then I get bored of reloading, and suffering outdoors and stick to pistols for a bit.

I'd recommend if you're a fucking noob to save the money and go to a carbine class at least once. You get your rocks off hosing and training with your peers, and learn essential skills quickly.

Plinking at the range aimlessly can be fun, but better to invest in a quality experience.
>>
>>33623773
2-5 times a month, depending on time free and weather.
>>
>>33624011

What's the SXS you've got there?
>>
I go once a week. Try to shoot at least 40 rounds.
>>
>>33623773
Recreationally, whatever

I do try to put at least 300 rounds through my carry gun every month, though. Ideally also with my rifle.
>>
>>33623773
I go maybe two or three times a year just to shoot., maybe 300 rounds each time.

Sometimes I'll go eat when I'm feeling like getting crab legs. The range has the best crab leg buffet.

While I agree with this sentiment, I would argue that a pistol class would benefit the average person far more than a carbine class. Considering a civilian would spend more time with a pistol close by, I think rifles don't require as much time to take learning.

100% agree on the training part, you won't be as quick to ingrain bad habits early on. Then again, most people here would prefer to buy a tuned up $1,100 gucci gun, not knowing what they're doing with it as opposed to buying the base model for $400 and spending that extra cash on a class from someone who can teach you how to really use it well. Even if this means the guy with the $400 gun can easily outshoot the other guy that has the $1,100 one.

But the majority of /k/ has this aversion to going to a class due to an assumption that you will be required to kit up, get yelled at and magdump into targets 3 feet away while doing ninja rolls all day long which is not the case with quality instructors. That and the machismo attitude of "I don't need anyone to SHOW me how to shoot a gun!!".
>>
About 3x a month but max 60 rounds each time except when busting clay.
I go there to relax and hang out if anything.
>>
>>33627467
10/10 would fucking operate with.

I just pound a steel plate at different odd distances until I get tired of hitting my target and hungry so I go home.
>>
>>33627475
It really doesn't take much to learn, find someone who can teach you, you'll love it after proper instruction.

Once a week.

I aim for a box of ammo for pistol and 20-40 rounds of 223 per trip. A little bullseye, a little speed, a little 25-60 yard pistol. For AR it's a little bouncing the hostage swingers around, some double taps, and some medium range stuff.

Doesn't sound like much, but on average it costs about 22 bucks per outing.
>>
What the fuck is wrong with everybody ITT? I work a minimum wage job and I shoot 100 rounds out of my AR every two weeks.

Not him but as someone who recently attended an 800 round pistol class
>electronic earpro, you will want to hear what the instructor may be saying at the other end of the line ($40)
>edc belt, you should already have this if you cc ($20-$50 depending on what you get)
>quality holster ($80-$90)
>pistol mag pouch
>hydration stuff like a water cooler, water bottles and even lunch/snacks
>a hat if it's outdoor and hot
>mag loader like a maglula for high round count pistol classes, not a mandatory thing but absolutely helps when you have to load 200 rounds in under an hour

For a rifle class, completely ditch the idea that you need kit. A properly set up rifle with a sling is all you need. Fuck a plate carrier, warbelt and kneepads you will never use any of that shit in the real world unless you're LE/MIL

Always keep context in mind. Do not go out and buy useless gear you will never wear out in the real world because it's "required" for the class.
>>
I wanna go to an outdoor range but the closest is an hour away

Depends, is the outdoor range less restricted than the indoor one? If it is, 100% fucking worth it.

>went to an outdoor range ~7 minutes away from my house
>can't rapid fire, draw, shoot on the move and had to wait 15 minutes for a cease fire to replace targets
>no drawing of any kind
>costs me $15

Now I go to a range that is also outdoor but it's 44 minutes away from me but I can actually get a lot of work done with my cc gun
>can shoot on the move
>can rapid fire
>can draw from concealment
>can actually use my shot timer
>can do 4 drills back to back in under 3 minutes calling for a quick ceasefire if anyone else is there
>costs me $20 and more money on gas

But 100 rounds of doing rapid fire drills, side stepping and doing draws is more valuable than standing slowly shooting 30 rounds into the same hole for 15 minutes will ever hope to be.

The owner also has a cute pupper that routinely walks around that can be pet.
>>
>>33629606
The outdoor range doesn't have their rules on their website, but the other one is pretty restrictive.
>>
>>33629634
Definately contact them in regards to what you plan on doing and if they're cool with it provided that you are safe doing so.

No point in driving for an hour only to get a gay ass 40 rule range that doesn't let you bring a black gun.
>>
>>33629566
Don't I need a chest rig to hold extra mags? I could even just shell out for a surplus IIFS and just go with that.
>>
>>33629641
Open range is 25$ all day, or 100$ all year
Other range is 18$ an hour.

I'm gonna take a class at the open range in a month so I'll probably find out then
>>
>>33629649
You can always stow them in your pockets, absolutely nothing wrong with that.
>>33629653
I'm assuming the "open range" is the range you haven't gone to yet? If so, 100% do it. A range that charges $18/hr by definition blows cocks.
>>
>>33629682
I've...
never actually fired a gun before
>>
>>33629695
What are you interested in shooting anyways? Rifle or pistol?
>>
>>33629704
I mentioned I was taking a class, that class has an hour with a 22 rifle, an hour with a 22 pistol, and an hour with a 20gauge shotgun.
In general, though?
I wanna try a 22 rifle and if that feels good get a moist nugget
>>
>>33629721
A .22lr rifle is a good start. Definately consider buying your own. Can't really offer too much information on rifles because I mainly shoot handguns.
>>
>>33629761
Yeah, if I end up liking the one I demo it'll be my first gun.
And like I said, if I end up liking that, gotta get my nugget. I really like bolt actions, they're neat

Kill two birds with one stone, get a .22lr bolt gun or better yet, some form of a scout rifle setup.

I never really cared for mosins until they were gone and I wouldn't want to spend $300 for one now. If I ever do get around to buying a bolt gun, it would probably be a CZ 527.
