That's the only Tom Clancy book I've read, but I really enjoyed it for anyone who isn't OP and is wondering if it's good or not.

The plots of subsequent books just didn't interest me though.

I don't know why, but the idea of a 10mm MP5 just suits perfectly to an elite group. It combines the best SMG with the best pistol round. In the videogames, in fact, you really didn't need any other weapon than the MP5, the other weapons where there for flavor.

Px4 and cougar seam to be it for pistols that arnt super old or historic. Something a team would buy/issue in the 90s. The px4 in 45 is pretty sweet imo so is the cougar.

Start reading Clancy books from Red Storm Rising going forward. As he went, he got better at not highlighting upcoming plot points as he went (just look at the number of times one character tells another a plan that the readers don't get to read). The fact that he got better at misdirection was one of the things that made his books that much more fun to read because everything seemed like less of a foregone conclusion.

This might be the most /k/ thing I ever read. I mean I really like the other Jack Ryan series books too. I was super butthurt when he died but I keep reading the Jack Ryan series that those two guys are pumping out just for character nostalgia. But they aren't too bad themselves.
