Not gonna lie, after seeing its internals, I've lost some respect for the design. It's still amazing, but suddenly I have zero interest in ever owning one even if I got the chance. I'd LOVE to try shooting it someday, but to own/maintain one? Nah, fuck that, I'd rather a barebones AK-74, even one with wooden furniture made in the 1970s.

Buy you can't own AN-94. It is foreign machinegun made after 1986. Funny thing if it would be legal it would absolutely destroy IPSC competition with its "cheating" double tap.
>>

It's not like pulley systems are rare technology.

What is the main application of shooting 2 bullets at the same time? Negates plate body armor? Are there any tests that it truly does that?
>>

There's some really rich guy with a team of engineers and a AK receviver that is going to hold you to this
>>
>>33623143

more bullets on target quicker, more accurately.

2 shot burst with the second round leaving the gun before the recoil impulse of the first shot affects your point of aim. 100% more bullet per trigger pull.

>>33623606
The Demon isn't even 900hp, they netured it down to 860, which just makes it a glorified Hellcat for a boatload more. They should have been the first 1000h/1000t muscle car, but Dodge cucked itself after killing the Viper.

And its not banned from anything, a properly built drag car running even 500hp weighs probably half of a Demon (Remember the Hellcat weighs in at 4500lbs, which is fat af compared to a designated strip build) and has gearing and suspension set up for full-out acceleration. People bring stock Hellcats to dragstrips all the time expecting to rake in wins, and get surprised when the serious builds run a train on them.

>basically /o/utist reeeeee pls ignore
>>
>>33623606
>>33624281
And the ban is only because the stock roll cage is only for looks and not heavy duty enough to allow the Demon to qualify in official drag races.
>>
>>33623606
"banned" definitely because lack of a rollcage,
possibly because of lacking a 5 point harness,
i'm not sure at what point fire suppression and external batter cuttoff become required.

Firstly, I'm not American. Secondly, the AN-94 isn't an AK design so technically, like the QBZ-97, it should be free game for importation to Canada. Who knows, maybe we'll be getting some semi-auto-only AN-94s in someday. It would kind of be stupid and silly, but would be an interesting outcome.

Question from someone who isn't car-literate:

Is it normal for dirt track races to have at least one car over the barrier in flames per event?

Went to one last week for the first time. Events were split between sprint cars and a bunch of other classes that I couldn't tell you the difference between.

There were a shitload of wrecks. Some of the races felt like watching football; they do half a lap, someone would spin out or have their engine fucking explode, everything would stop and they'd all slow down and drive in formation based on their placing when the wreck occurred, then they'd start up again as soon as it was all cleaned up.

>>
>>33629671
AN-94s? zero, if you mean in america. there almost certainly isn't a single one. it's a bad combination of being produced in small numbers, being expensive, and being locked behind numerous legal barriers due to being russian and being a machine gun.

It's not three recoil springs, one recoil spring, one slide hammer spring and one to return the floating receiver to the forward position. Come on Ian. hardly even explained how the magic happens.

>>33629760
I know of one factory complete gun imported with permission of the DOD and a bunch of random parts.
>>
I, for one, was actually really disappointed with the brevity of the review. I was really interested to learn more about how that sliding trigger plate system worked in different firing modes, he didnt really talk about auto-sear/2-round bust tripping, or anything, which is a damn shame because that's just as interesting as the feeding/operating system he covered in such depth.

Also didn't mention how the muzzle device aids in anything or its peculiar shape or what geometry causes the canted mag (he said it had to do with the elevator, but didnt point out how it affected the mag on the inside)

All in all, its the first chance for a lot of us to see a lot of these components, and he focused on the ones that theres a gorillion existing pictures of.
>>
>>33629949

The space on the left is to fit the cartridge rammer and recoil spring which rides in a slot on the bottom of the receiver.

IMG_5361.jpg

The slide hammer is slightly rounded had a little twist play on its rails and this little hook on the side(see picture), upon pulling the trigger it strikes the FP and under spring pressure cocks into the slot in the bolt carrier (see next picture)

The gun cycle quickly and the next second shot is fired soon as the bolt fully locks because the slide hammer is locked in position on the carrier

After the second shot the receiver reaches the back of the body and the sear is no longer held down as the receiver returns to the front of the body the sear rides over top of its FCG surface (its angled like this // with a spring underneath)

In what position the FCG engagement surfaces are determines when and where the sear on the receiver pops up and grabs the side of the slide hammer rotating it out of the locked position in the bolt carrier.

I'll make a video later this year showing it.

.308 was dropped in favor of 5,56mm because your average grunt would have better hit propability with it than with the .308 - less recoil, thus more controllable, still effective at ranges where most combat is fought in, can carry more of it.
It's cheaper to produce and smaller in size so guns made for it can be made smaller and lighter which both save up in raw materials and pricetag.
>>
>>33630106
You aren't alone. Seems strange. It should be possible to design the rifle so that the magazine is straight.

Also after seeing ian's video and the one of them shooting, I can see why the russians never widely adopted it. Too complex and if something fucks up the gun is utterly fucked. Interesting and novel idea... but too complex for a viable weapon system for the infantry, esp when everyone from top down know the AK

the fuck. that is actually really trippy and interesting, I never thought of a striker that could lock like a bolt can. Really interesting that on second shot, you pretty much have a submachine gun style fixed firing pin..or at least the design feels inspired by that to me.

I'm really interested in seeing how the various fcg surfaces affect the hammer, especially for releasing the hammer for the third shot (presumably once the bcg is back in battery.

Thank you very much for answering my questions, zasta. The more i learn about this rifle, the more wondrous it is to me.
